Good Afternoon this is one of my favorite spots the food is amazing I've never had a bad experience here ever. The service is amazing & owners are just amazing people. Rather you're at the bar or dining in or even outside in the patio it's an amazing vibe. Now the drinks are definitely good Rather a special or custom made. Sankofa never ever disappoints if you haven't tried it please do. I don't eat meat or seafood anymore but when I did they're Oxtails, Curry Chicken, Jerk Chicken & Brown Stew. Chicken is soooo good & all the sides are good too. I'm a vegetarian now & I'm still able to enjoy the food because they have a vegetarian plate option. So I'm still able to enjoy their food, I definitely recommend Sankofa.
I’m not big on giving reviews buuuuut… this place is great!!! I am an island girl (Puerto Rico) and I love my Caribbean food. I’ve tried a couple of other places and the food was cooked well but lacked seasoning. When I tasted this chicken I had to share it with y’all 😂 the cooks here definitely seasoned this food till their ancestors said stop 🔥 def one of the best spots around! And the lady in the front …I apologize for not getting your name love but you were great too. Thank you ☺️
I got a mixed plate. Oxtail, with jerk chicken and curry chicken and although the jerk and curry chicken doesn't have the normal flavor profile I'm used to but it was packed with flavor next time I go back I'm getting extra gravy and I will be going back.

First time at Sankofa cafe, Ms. Rita was very nice. The food was good spicy like I like it. I got the Mattie plate which is 3 meats and 2 sides. So I got jerk chicken curry, chicken and oxtails with red beans and rice and a salad. I will be going back. I like 👍🏾
This place is my favorite in Kansas City when I want real deal Jamaican style oxtails. The owner is always so welcoming and I’m glad they’re still open. Great patio vibes too when it’s open.
When you walk in this establishment all cares & stress in life seem to roll off your back like water off a ducks tail.
The chef was patient, knowledgeable, and helpful with recommendations. He also answered any questions I had about the menu.
Kathy was a joy! She was sweet, helpful, and took genuine interest in me as well as all other patrons! She also offered sound wisdom and shared part of her personal story with me. I will definitely be coming back!
I don't normally seek out Jamaican food, but based on this place I definitely should. It was so good and well priced. The person running the front was super nice and hardly any wait for the food. I don't see some of the food I got as options, but the cole slaw was great, the chicken stew was amazing. The chicken was fall off the bone tender. Side salad was bigger than I was expecting.
One of the best Jamaican spots I've had up here in KC. Food was delicious, fresh and seasoned to perfection. I'm so stuck on the curry chicken, rice and beans and cabbage I've not eaten anything else. Oh and the beef Patty's 🔥 everytime we stop in we get about 5 to go. Woman at the front is the best. Definitely recommend this spot!
I got a takeout order of Oxtail, sweet potato, and okra with onions. I also got a bit of carrot cake. Everything was tender and flavorful, the oxtail was absolute perfection!!! The owner was very kind and welcoming!! Will be back again soon
