Review Dickey's Barbecue Pit - Kansas City

William Lopez V.
Dickies Barbecue has been one of my favorite restaurants in Kansas...this day I visited this place with my family that brings back beautiful memories...it was one of the first barbecues I ate in Kansas, unfortunately several establishments have closed and this is one of the ones that It is still open...the food was delicious, the service was very friendly, the place was a little run down and if there was something that we loved it was the free ice cream cone that they gave to customers...today the machine was no longer working it was a shame. .but hey, this place is definitely an excellent place to try BBQ.

This location is better than Jack Stack ever thought of being. They know how to slice brisket, which apparently they need to train Joe's on how to do as well. Granted, Q39 brisket is still better, but Q39 is god tier BBQ. The sides are as good if not better than all of the BBQ restaurants in the KC metro area. I will eat at Dickey's every chance I get.

How am I just now finding out about this place?I had the brisket sandwich and fries with a side of brisket chilli and man these guys here know how to do good brisket. The fries were cooked perfectly.Chilli was awesome. I look forward to trying more menu items.

I had the best time today visiting Dickeys! Service was fast, friendly, and easy goin! Thank you, Dave and Laura!! Also, the 50 rose arrangement done by Dave was so beautiful!

Service was fast and friendly! Food was excellent. I had the brisket burnt ends sandwich and side ceasar.

Service was great! Mac and cheese was extremely mushy. I got the frito pie thinking it was chilli like it seemed to be advertised but it was baked beans. Dinner roll was stale. Everything else was hot and good.

The owner and his family are very nice. Food is great. The young kids behind the counter were not very friendly and didn't seem like they wanted to be there.

Tried Dickeys for the first time. Living in KC I’m wary of bbq chains, but I was in the area so I gave it a shot. I had the classic sandwich with sliced brisket and waffle fries. The brisket was good, as was their sweet sauce. I I prefer regular, seasoned fries over waffle fries. What you see in my pic was $14.08. BBQ is expensive, due to the meat and time smoking takes, but this is too much for what I ate. Would I eat there again? Yes, but only if there weren’t other local places nearby which in this case there weren’t.

The waffle fries are better than chic-fila. I got a pulled pork BBQ sandwich. They toasted the buns as I was ordering so that was very cool. The food is very good and the cost is reasonable for what you get. The service was fast, and the people working are very kind!

*First Visit Ever* Polite! Extremely helpful navigating through the menu and they were very knowledgeable about their products. This food is excellent and I will be returning. I would suggest this location to anyone looking for a quality BBQ experience with great service! Thanks Dickies👍🏻

This location is amazing! The owner is the sweetest person! The food is delicious and the service super fast. There is a good amount if variety on the menu to choose from. Each night has a different special off the menu for only 9.99 which is cheaper from it's regular price. This last time I went it was Tuesday so they had the rib plate with beans, cold slaw, a roll and a drink. I had them change from cold slaw to fries though. Its very filling food and they give unlimited ice cream so you won't leave hungry! Great place for families too! I highly recommend this location!

The service was great and the staff was really friendly. I just didn't really enjoy the food for the price. The food was kinda dry and bland. The only thing that saved it was the bbq sauce. I don't think I would eat here if I wanted the best BBQ.

I honestly cannot even give 1 star, I've entered one because the site will not allow me to put a half of one or none at all. I normally ignore negative reviews and want an opinion of my own. My husband and I have driven past the Dickey's on Antioch on several occasions and have made a mental note to try it. I am from Kansas City and LOVE BBQ!! I was horrified and disappointed!! The ribs come 5 to a rib dinner which is really generous, but were not worth the $13.49 that we paid for them. There was no smoke flavor, but had somewhat of an after taste that was very off putting. They looked, smelled and tasted as if maybe they were made in a factory, refrigerated and then microwaved. I love BBQ beans, tried the Jalapeno beans and again Horrible!! They were watery...had a chili powder taste to them, straight from the can taste and throw some jalapenos on them to "dress em up". Now come on!! I paid $12.49 for the chicken breast and brisket plate - chicken breast had Italian dressing and tasted like it was pressed chicken that was baked in the dressing. The brisket had no smoke flavor, ring..nothing no flavor at all! I just hope that nobody from out of town tries this place in hopes that they're going to get some good KC BBQ!! We are not well represented here! I'm not even going to mention the off putting attitude of the person working that night. I think I have never been so disappointed in myself for spending $54 in such a bad way.

Not sure this is a real fair review, as I only had one item. Wanted ribs. Read reviews and it appears that nobody was really in love with their sides so decided I would avoid this time. I ordered on line, and made a point that I wanted the ribs moist as some reviewers said that they were dry. I ordered a slab, with sauce on the side, The order was ready on time and the staff very friendly. The ribs were meaty and moist, but were totally lacking in any smoke flavor. Will I order them again? Nope. I suppose the deciding factor was price. At $26.41 I don't see the value for the buck. I can go to any of our BBQ icons and get better ribs for the money, not to mention some award winning sides. I will go back and try their brisket and sausage.

Would love to see one of the truly great BBQ places open up North, as we have nothing that can compare. Come on Bryant's, Edwards, Gates, LC's, Joe's, etc.....We are so ready for you!

In an area filled with Joe's, and Arthur's, and Ollie's I guess I'm not really supposed to like Dickey's, but I do. The first time I went to Dickey's was in Texas when I got in late to our hotel. Hungry and desperate for anything to eat we lucked into a Dickey's still open near our hotel. I love their meats, their sides (especially the okra) and their rolls. I admit the BBQ sauce is a little thin, but for a chain, I'm good with Dickey's.

We went here for the first time after a neighbor recommended it. We were really surprised at how tasty the food is. The meat (I had brisket and ribs) were a tad dry, but very flavorful. Our kids loved all their food, which is why we will come back. The free ice cream is also a nice bonus. 😀

Good food for a chain!. The turkey, spicy cheddar sausage and brisket was really good! Don't get me wrong, this is no Gates or Oklahoma Joes. When we want some BBQ and don't want to drive all the way to Kansas or downtown this is the place we will go.
Dave
Not bad for a chain. This place obviously doesn't compare with some of the great BBQ joints in KC, but I didn't expect it to. That said, I enjoyed my meal. The spicy cheddar sausage is very good, and so is the turkey. For sides I had the jalapeño beans and they were very good too. I'd recommend it but don't come here expecting Jack Stack. It's a chain but for a chain it's good. I'd rate it better than somewhere like Famous Daves.

You have no idea.. I went to this place a while back and was underwhelmed.

The place got new owners and my friend wanted to go there but I refused because I remembered how bad/average the food was.

I went there a few months back though and have been back 3 times since. The improvement makes this a very nice place to stop and eat and I would recommend it. It was as good as anything in the same market in the area.

I am not much of a salad guy but they have this brisket salad with fried onion crispers, ranch, and bbq sauce. It's nothing less than amazing. Granted it's not your 70$ bbq joints in KC, but it has it's place in the market and the food is very well worth the price, plus after getting to know the owners somewhat, they are a really close group and you can tell it in their personal attention to their customers, every time I've been someone has come by to make sure everything was good.

I think it's disingenuous for people to compare them to places like Jack Stack and Smokehouse, you wouldn't compare chili's to blanc burger, but they both have their place and time.

Chain crud. Your order is pulled from a hot box, removed from plastic wrap, cut from a hunk then prepared. Was a little over $10 a head for three of us, not impressed given the quality BBQ joints in the KC metro. Don't plan on trying again.

Best North Side BBQ I've had. I travel to KC every month or so and have been sampling the BBQ all over town. I had the 2 meat plate with great chopped brisket and a wonderful spicy cheddar sausage. A real treat at the end of a dine in is the free soft serve. Nothing settles the smoke and the spice like a soothing cup of ice cream. I put this in the top three in KC so far.

This place has improved alot. I was here in December and it wasn't that great, now it's much better. The service and quality has increased tremendously. You must try its worth every dollar

New owners-WoW!. DELISH! New owners have elevated Dickey's to a happy new level of tasty, timely, and terrific. Lived in KC all my life and am glad to have this friendly place nearby for great BBQ and all the rest of the good items on the menu. Potatoes are to DIE FOR.

Barbecue??? Really. I just left Dickey's Barbecue Pit.. There is still no Barbecue place up North not worth eating at. The meat was just okay the Ketchup was better than the BBQ sause. I had the 2 meat plate with Brisket and Sausage and a side of beans. We also ordered 4 ribs and was hurrable. Do you self a favor and dont bother eating there. Go next door to Five Guys and get a real good meal.

Average BBQ Has No Place in KC. Eat a combination beef/pork sandwich with fries at Dickey's, you're left pondering if the $10 you spent was the most economical decision you could have made.

Eat (or at least attempt) a combination beef/pork sandwich with fries at Arthur Bryant's, you're left either passed out in a chair or stumbling over yourself pondering how life could get any better than this.

The one thing Dickey's does have going for it... It's miles and miles away from the nearest Arthur Bryant's.

Glad I found Dickey's in KC!. I had a chance to dine at Dickey's while visiting KC I am originally from Las Vegas. The service was great very friendly!, I loved the different choices of meats they have and that I was able to sample them before ordering. I ordered the "big bbq sandwich" I chose the hot links as my choice of meat since I was in the mood for something spicy and I'm glad I did, the meat was tender & moist with a great smokey flavor, my girlfriend had their "signature chopped brisket" and she raved about how good it was, being from Alabama I know that she knows what good bbq is supposed to taste like. I loved their three different bbq sauces, I tried their "original" sauce and it was awesome! tangy and sweet at the same time, I liked that they keep their bbq sauce warm. I highly recommend this restaurant, I'm glad we got our own Dickey's BBQ here in Las Vegas!

Chain, Chain Go Away. Why do national barbecue chains come to KC and why do people support them? I had some pulled pork which had some faint smoke to it and wasn't very good...the buttered and toasted hoagie roll it was on was worse. Beans were more chili than baked. Three choices of sauce, all very runny and uninspiring.

Someone told me this style is Texas barbecue. I'm glad I live in KC.
