An excellent tiki bar that could easily take on the best in the country. Eclectic, vintage furniture to lounge on, a fantastic drink menu developed by Martin Cate, interior designed by Bamboo Ben, a friendly and engaging staff and a nice mix of slow and moody exotic and faster surf rock and even some punk mixed in to the soundtrack for your evening. For large groups there are some intimate hut seating away from the bar. There's not too much room so on weekends I would suggest reservations, but you can always chance it if you just want bar seating. There is no outside food allowed into the bar, so make sure to dine either in HopCat or elsewhere before or after, preferably before as you may not want to leave once to get there and have your first of many drinks!
Being in the midwest all my life, it's not common to see a tiki bar here. So when I heard Hopcat has a spot, we had to check it out and RSVP thru Open Table with our groups of friends.
What is a Tiki bar you say? A tiki bar is an exotic-themed drinking establishment that serves elaborate cocktails, especially rum-based mixed drinks such as the famous mai tai and zombie cocktail. Tiki bars are aesthetically defined by their tiki culture décor which is based upon a romanticized conception of tropical cultures.
There's several options of rum mix cocktails and even there's a bowl to share. Let me just say, the drinks are STRONG. Definitely good and great with a group of friends to chill, chat, and enjoy bc it doesn't feel like you are in KC but somewhere else.
Sometimes, if they aren't busy, they will accept walk-ins. They have their own restrooms so you don't have to exit to the main Hopcat restrooms. Staff are friendly and we will be back next time.
Entering through a serect door TikiCat gives a very cool experience from the very beginning. If you're looking for something different than the typical bar type the atmosphere here is like nothing I've encountered in KC. The drinks were delicious and like nothing I've ever had before. I ordered a Don's Own Grog and will probably be ordering another the next time I go. The prices were just a little higher than what I am used to paying but they make it worth every penny!
The drinks here are hands down incredible, worth it for that alone. But I’ll be honest, I found the service here a bit lacking. I hate that you have to go to the cashier to order, and I found the “rules” and required reservations trying a bit too hard. But the drinks are boozy and the environment pretty eclectic and worth going or taking friends.
LOTS of fun. Be sure to make reservations! We were here on a Thursday night and it filled up. They only let in a certain number, so best to just reserve a spot. Great drinks, they are delicious and potent. Everyone is wonderfully friendly, and the decor is excellent. I went here on my birthday, and the bartenders took care of me! :) Also...a dolphin banana. Seriously.
I can't tell you how thrilled I was that I could have a conversation in a bar without needing to yell. This place is cool, laid back and fun. The drinks range from $10-$14ish and none of them are weak. Tip: Make a reservation and don't be late.
Great place to relax and enjoy a cocktail. It's not your typical bar. This is a specialty bar, they have the best tiki cocktails a few beers and a top notch list of sipping rums. So If its a vodka soda you want this isn't the place to go. Very small intimate space, with small private huts for small groups. Make sure to make a reservation as they don't have very much space and book out weeks in advance. No windows, no TVs just floor to ceiling tiki attire. It's a 21 and over bar, they check IDs at the door. This is a place to bring a date, or a small group of friends for a unique and fun night.
One of the most unique bars in Kansas City and one of the best tiki bars around. From the classics to their own signature concoctions, you’re guaranteed to be impressed drink after drink. The bartenders and staff are all friendly and entertaining. Be sure to call ahead and make reservations or you probably won’t get in. But once you’re there, you’ll be transported to an entirely different place.

Located in the basement of HopCat, TikiCat is one of the best hidden gems in KC. If you love tiki decor and strong great tasting drinks then this is the place for you! Staff is always top notch and the the environment is laid back and fun. Great place to bring a group of friends and hang out all night. Must make a reservation if going with a group.
Amazing place!! Super cool and underground! The drinks are on another level!! Super string so we only had about two each. Worth the experience!! make an appointment via online and that way you have a place to sit. We have been twice and both times we tried new drinks and loved them all.
