Review Los Tules - Kansas City

Gagan W
I tried them for dinner and the chicken fajitas were delicious. The happy hour margarita was great as well. Service was decent, had to flag them down a few times but it got better as they slowed down so no big deal. Ambiance is great. Above all, the food was on point and I would recommend them.

Amazing Mexican place! The staff were super fun and helpful. Lots of great options on the menu. They were extremely accommodating for our 8 person party and the atmosphere inside was warm. I needed my phone charged and they were able to plug it in for me (even snuck a selfie in lol). Definitely want to come back again and will be recommending this place to my friends!

Excellent food and superior service. Generous portion sizes. The Guacamole and Birria Quesadillas are fantastic. Perfect location for grabbing a meal before hitting Power and Light, Bartle Hall, KC Symphony, or Union Station. Street parking can be tricky but there’s an adjacent lot next to the restaurant with ample parking. When the restaurant is busy there isn’t much inside space to wait for your table so bring a coat if it’s cold outside.

10/10 would recommend! Los Tules started off our Friday night perfectly. I seriously cannot express how warm, attentive and friendly the all the staff was. The service alone had me sold. The happy hour drinks were extremely tasty and the food came out quick and delicious! I will absolutely start making, Los Tules, a part of my regular places for good conversation, yummy drinks, stellar service and a full belly.

Great food and service. I've been here three times and tried different dishes each time. I've never been disappointed. Quick service and simple menus.

Excellent food and friendly service! I had el burrito grande and it was great! Lunch for $12 ain't too shabby either

Delightful Mexican restaurant near the Kaufmann. Easy access off I 35 and plentiful parking. Ample seating inside for couple or large parties. Reservations recommended. Tacos are a delight. Great and varied menu. Best part is the a la carte menu where I selected the fish taco and the Barrias taco and both were delicious. Go today and you will be greeted by friendly and helpful staff.

My husband and I love to come here for Mexican food over anywhere else! The staff is friendly, the owners are amazing, and the food is always SO good. The meat in any of the dishes has always been so tender and juicy. We have never gotten something that we didn’t like. Don’t let the color of their margs fool you, they are SO GOOD and very strong. Their sangria is also very good! We also love their pork queso! This is our go-to spot for dinner in KC!

Great experience. We ordered and got our food pretty quickly. Service was a bit slow, but that's because they got super busy, super quickly. So understandable. If you plan to come for dinner go early. We got there at 5 and by 530 it was absolutely packed.

We had a fantastic dinner last night, thanks to some great recommendations from our server. The house margaritas, chips and salsa made this a great pick, but our entrees put it over the top. The guacamole enchiladas were amazing and as was the shrimp chile relleno. We will definitely be back!

Decided to make a stop here while visiting Kansas City, and boy was I amazed! This place is packed, and for good reason. First off, the service is exceptional. The staff were super friendly, and the owner even welcomed me to the city himself when we talked at the bar. They have Delicious frozen margs btw. And after talking with some other customers, you can tell the locals really love this place. It’s like a family gathering. The food was exceptional as well. Stuffed burritos, with well seasoned meats/veggies, and a delicious cheese sauce to cover it all in am ooey gooey blanket of flavor. Everything was great here, and it’s definitely a good time with the family or with a group of friends on a night out.

Great food and service! Love the heat of the salsa and everything tasted very fresh. The bartender makes those drinks STRONG and worth the $!

I love Los Tules and have been going here for years. The food is always great and the staff is very tentative to their tables. The view is great, especially with the limited patio seating. I really enjoyed watching the Kauffman Center be built while eating here and looking at it completed today. The bar is a great conversation place. The staff doesn’t tend behind it all the time, but you can occasionally catch them for conversation or to you get insight into what is happening in the area.

The food was delicious the music playing was perfect for the vibe in the restaurant. And when we left we got a great view of the Kaufman

Growing up, I did not frequent here so my experiences are only for the last few years. I visited for lunch today with 3 others and everything was very quick (as usual) and quite delicious. I ordered the carne asada tacos and they were stuffed with steak and cilantro (big win for me). The cheese dip with pork was delicious even though I wasn’t quick enough to get any pork pieces today. I did order a ruby red (margarita with a splash of strawberry marg on top) and I told the server to surprise me with the rim (sugar/salt) and she ended up bringing me tajin on the rim and it was absolutely delicious! Definitely underrated for that as I love tajin on everything from eggs to cucumbers! The service here is always quick and friendly. Definitely will be back! I forgot to take pictures though and that was a bummer but shows how delicious all of it was!

This place had amazing service and amazing food! I can understand why they were jammed packed on a week day with the quality of this place! Would recommend any day.

Although this place was rated respectably, I have a difference of opinion from my recent experience. It started off horribly when we walked in and waited 5 minutes for a hostess to say anything to us. Since they didn't make an effort we asked an employee if we were to seat ourselves. They said it'll be just a minute. Then we waited another 5 minutes before anybody came to take our drink order. So we went ahead and ordered our food with the drinks because I had a feeling if we didn't it would take even longer before we seen our waitress. I will admit that the salsa was pretty good with a chili/marinara mixture of flavors. The carnitas were good but a little dry. My wife and mother in law did not enjoy their Chicken enchiladas. I was unable to get a refill of sweet tea because the power went out for about 25 minutes.

Great food at a good price. Walkable from downtown hotels. Good place with kids and good kids portions. Mona our waitress was really nice and great with kids.

Great Lunch - Los Tules may be my new fave!. My co-worker and I just ordered lunch to go today. He is a long time fan, and I am a first timer. I had the lunch Grande Burrito. It was wonderful! Stuffed full of shredded chicken, rice, beans, sour cream and guac, then smothered in verde and topped off with espinaca. This would have been a meal in itself, but then it came with refried beans, more rice and a drink. All for $8.50, although the menu price states $7.50. I ate far to much, because it was sooooo good. There was easily enough for two meals. I think this was a great price for all of this food. One thing I would have changed, was a few chips would have been nice to send along, but wasn't a deal breaker. The other thing that was kind of a bummer, is that the advertised drink with lunch special does not apply to carry out orders. All in all, I will be back.

Update: Had the same lunch today, was as great as the first time. Glad to know that the food is not at the whim of which chef is working!

Worth the wait!. My friend said he had tried this after attending an event downtown and it was great. We went on Saturday night and the place was absolutely packed with many large (over 10) person parties. Several people were complaining about the wait and scheming on just sitting down at a table as soon as it was vacated but the wait was a little over 30 minutes and the people were pleasant and obviously doing everything they could to get everyone taken care of. We got seated had drinks and ordered our food, it arrived in a timely manner and was some of the best any of us had eaten in quite some time. If you go during a busy time just take your patience, make the best of the wait and you will be rewarded with some of the best food the city has to offer bar none.

Great Food, I never leave hungry!. Go for the Pork Burrito, it is smothered in cheese and sauce, so great. You can tell the pork has been simmering in spices all day! At only 4$ al a cart, its a bargain, as big as the plate. On Thursday night they have $1 tacos, and cheaper margaritas, which will put you on your a$$ if you know what I mean!

All cheese dips are yummy and ask for the spicy salsa, (the regular isnt hot enough, tastes like pasta sauce to me)

Good food however the enchiladas have about a pound too much cheese

Disappointing. My husband and I looked forward to trying out this restaurant,as we'd heard many good reviews. When we arrived it was not very crowded and we were told to sit anywhere. We we were served chips & salsa right away but that was the extent of good service. It took 15 minutes to get menus! At least we had our margaritas, which were great!, but, no water, for which we'd asked first. The server forgot what we'd ordered, said she was sure I ordered what she brought me, and even after I offered to pay extra for what I originally wanted, it took another 10 minutes to get it. By this time, the place was getting crowded. When we finally got the food we wanted, and were waiting on a drink ordered long before, we were approached by another server asking us to move to a different table so she could seat a large party. I told her we were almost done (we'd forego the drink!), but she said the party had already been waiting for 15 minutes. Wow. I don't recall ever feeling so unwelcome. We switched tables without any help from the staff, and the big party was seated. I liked my food, but I lost my appetite. After waiting a long time for a to-go box, I gave up. My husband stayed at the table to pay the server and I waited by the exit. When he got the bill he was given a free drink, which we walked out with. I will return the glass, but doubt I'll stay for the humiliation.

We went there for lunch. It was fairly busy. We were kind of surprised to have to seat ourselves and thought it a little odd that they charge for chips other than the first basket. Our server was not around very often and after an hour and people who arrived after us, almost completing their meals, found and asked if she had any idea about our food. She advised she was looking for it? After about 10 more minutes it seemed as though she had given up the search. We had no food and no idea of when food would be on the horizon. We had to get back to work so after an hour and a half and no sign of the waitress we left money for our drink on the table and left. So after a wasted Fri lunch - I have no idea how the food tastes. For my money and my time I'll go to Los Corals.

Food truck. I haven't actually ate at the restaurant, but i got to sample so of their fare from their food truck. It was great! lots of avocado, lime, and cilantro which I loved. I mean can you have a proper Mexican dish without those?! One of these days I am actually going to go to the restaurant itself. Good mexican food is almost impossible to find in KC so I'm hopeful.

Los Tules. I am surprised at how much I enjoyed this meal! I am loyal to my normal Mexican food joint, but a couple of friends really had a hankering for this spot. I had heard good things about the food, but I can also be very finicky about Mexican, so I was curious to check it out for myself. I wasn't starving, so I decided to get two carne asada tacos ala carte. While this is not my normal order, I am so glad I strayed! The tacos were unbelievably delicious. Perfectly seasoned, nicely presented and the right portion. My friend let me try her fish tacos, which is a dish I tend to gravitate to, and those were great as well. She also had a beef taco, which I didn't try, and reported that it is probably one to skip. Regardless of the lackluster tacos, I know that I will be back into this spot sometime in the very near future. I spotted a spinach and chicken enchilada which I think has my name on it....

Nice quite place, pretty popular too. This was my first time there, I wasn't impressed. The server we had clearly wanted to be somewhere else. They wouldn't substitute an item and tried to upsell me another entree. It had something on it I didn't want and the server said they could sub it for something else. My friend's order was messed up, sent it back. They just poured cheese on top. I asked the server if thats what they did and she said yes. Then looked and discovered mine was wrong too. We left.

Randomly found this cute little Mexican place one day driving by. Don't judge a book by its cover!!! Chips and salsa aren't to die for. BUT the pork enchiladas r soooo tasty...as well as the strong but flavorful margaritas. I recommend this place at least once. Gotta try the pork enchiladas!!!!

Great mexican food. I went there on a saturday night after a show at the sprint center I ordered the shrimp ala criolla omg it was great I loved it ! my son ordered the chicken tostadas they were great chicken was flavorful juicy not dry and the house margarita was good ! had a great time I will be going again !!!

Seem to be nice people, but mediocre food. Salsa is thin, lifeless. Carne asada tastes heavy like brown gravy. Ballpark-style nacho "cheese" sauce used for some items. Tortillas are loveless. Margarita: forgettable.

Put Los Tules in the top 10% locally. Very good food. First time there, I enjoyed a tamale, cheese & onion enchilada, & carne asada taco. No complaints-very good. We are fortunate enough to have a large Latin community in town and have a lot of seriously good Mexican restaurants. So, I have my own favorites, but I'd put Los Tules in the top 10% for sure!

My favorite. This is one of my favorite lunch places in Kansas City. Best pork burrito I've ever had. It's a little bit of a dive, but what good mexican restaurant isn't? The staff is friendly and attentive and the price is right. What more could you ask for?

On my mind. Ive been going there for years and years, i moved to Virginia but every time in come back to KC i have to drop in and get the pork burritos with chees sauce and rice and beans they are to die for. I didnt know they had a name change and i havent been there for like 5 years but i bet the food has not changed. I will be there this May and im looking forward to it.

Easily the best authentic mexican place in town.

Our fave. We go there at least twice a month. The staff is great and darn near have our half pitcher of primo marguarita made for us after they see us walk in! Everything is great!

Our family favorite. We go to Los Tules once a week. Our 7 year old even chose to go there for his birhtday dinner. The service is always friendly & they remember us every time. They have a great hh w/ inexpensive tacos & margaritas. We think they are some of the best margaritas in the city. You can't go wrong with anything you order, from the juevos con chorizo to the carne asada tacos. We love it all!!!
Royalmay
Its a keeper. We went for lunch and the food was great (especially the pork burrito). All of our party enjoyed the food, but the service was not great. Our server was much slower than the other server. If you like close to authentic mexican this place has some great choices.

Straight to the Point. This food is excellent! No soupy mess; just great food across the menu with anything but plain flavors. Tamales are some of the best in KC and the fish tacos have a beautiful chipotle kick. Go easy on the chips as only the first basket is free; trust me though, you're going to want to save that hunger for when your food comes out!
River
One of the last real places! Looking forward to the world cup at this place. Excellent homemade tamales.

Best Mexican Food in KC. I have been going here since I was a kid, back then it was named Las Chiquitas. Even after a name change and a serious facelift, the same fabulous food is still delivered lightning fast to your table. They remember your favorite dish- your favorite drink and are always insanely friendly (even if you walk in 5 minutes til close!).
If you go there, you HAVE to try their cheese dip (the yellow- not the white, though both are good). It is made with their famous chili and is beyond ridiculously good. I could drink the stuff! Also, their carne asada tacos and cheese enchiladas are screamin' good as well. And make sure to top off the meal with a pitcher of margaritas, made right with triple sec!

Like a place I loved as a kid. They have good pork, and I love the chili con quesos, (tostada shells with melted cheese, sauce and pork).

They remind me a little of "Las Playas" in Independence when I was growing up.

Great Little Mexican Food. I stopped in one day while on a business trip and was very surprised at the friendlyness of the staff and the quality of the food and service.

They instantly made me feel at home. I sat and ate at the bar since I was alone. Several workers made sure I felt comfortable. The owner gave me special attention and was quite personable.

The bar has a full line of drinks and as you might guess I was interested in a margarita. However, since I was working settled for Iced Tea. I ordered a Chili Releno. It came complete with rice and beans ofcourse. The food was hot (just how I like it) and tasty.

There is a separate modestly sized dining room ajacent to the main bar which also has several tables to choose from.

I would higly recommend this fine restaurant to anyone that would like a nice meal in a tastfully decorated eating area.

Muey Bien

The fideo was as good as I remembered it from the wedding. The street style carne asada taco was seasoned well. The chicken burrito was really good and the chicken had a nice flavor to it.

The Los Tules happy hour has become a favorite spot for me and my friends, but somehow we’d failed to realize it’s Monday through Wednesday only until we stopped in a couple of Fridays ago and were denied $1 tacos. We must usually be in a taco mood more toward the beginning of the week.
This place gets some serious traffic in every sense of the word. This is an extremely high-profile location near 17th and Broadway and anyone cruising toward or away from downtown, the westside or the crossroads is likely to not
