We came here looking for grilled fish tacos. And they were very good. Service was fast, guac and queso was very tasty. Prices were reasonable.
The fish tacos had quite a bit of fish in them. Fajitas were tasty. We want to come back and try their shrimp.

I haven't been to Ponak's for about 25 years and after last night I realized, I've been missing out. There were 3 of us and everyone's food was a huge portion and delicious. The Taco Salad was great and I was barely able to finished it. The Chicken Nachos were massive and they had a ton of cheese. We got a pitcher of Margaritas and had a great meal. Our waitress did a great job and she rocked it.

Great place! I ordered the chicken fajita quesadilla and it was the best I've ever had. Thick, juicy grilled chicken, caramelized onions and peppers, grilled almost pita style thing. Amazing!

I really don't love the food here. That's a personal thing but I find it not overly flavorful.
Fun place to hang out at happy hour and talk to eccentric drunk locals.

TACOS! TACOS! TACOS! best flavor and that cheese...ohh so good. Jon Ponak has it special ordered from a place in Wisconsin. Also the taco Sonora with carnitas and tamales are my personal favorite. However, there's no bad choices on the menu...In my opinion, it's the best restaurant in Kansas City and beyond! Don't forget to order an attitude adjustment a.k.a. margarita!!! Gracias!

Ordered 1 dish to split with my girlfriend. They actually split the 2 burritos with even portions into two plates, very satisfied with them going above and beyond. Service very quick and efficient. We were hungry, jalapeños salsa was 10/10, this place is always poppin..

I recently visited Ponak’s, & would not hesitate to go back! The staff was friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home.
The food was delicious and authentic, with a great variety of dishes to choose from. I especially loved the fresh guacamole and salsa, which were on point! The street tacos were also a standout!
The strawberry margaritas are probably my favorite part!
While the overall experience was excellent, I did have a few minor complaints. They do not accept reservations & will not seat you unless your entire party is standing with you at the hostess stand.

Ponaks is our family tradition to celebrate birthdays. The servers seem to be at on the top of drinks, chips and salsa.
Atmosphere is family friendly and lots of tvs for sports watching in the bar area.
The drinks are great and food plentiful.
Parking can be tricky. Plan to arrive early as the place fills up quickly.

The service was great 👍 our waitress was on top ! Suggestions I know you are busy but being in the restaurant biz for 32 yrs hum seen chips set out and tables clean to keep up ! while eating but our chips were cold when we was sat ! beef 🌮 taco had no flavor and my enchilada with added chicken had no flavor aka seasoned btw the sauce for chips wasn’t what I remembered kinda ketchup tasting so asked for hot hot sauce and mixed the green tomatillo together and was a bit better ! Seen a lot of Mexican restaurants using pork roast with a little flavor ugh it’s not like it used to be with a little red sauce with chunks but not bad when your hungry 😋

I can’t believe it took me this long to go to Ponak’s. As a vegetarian and part-time vegan, sometimes I have trouble finding food that’s really filling and affordable out on the town. At Ponak’s, though, that’s no trouble at all. A few of those papas burritos à la carte and I am set. There’s a great atmosphere to go along with all that authentic, filling food owing to the excellent staff and immense number of people pouring through the doors at all hours. Heads up, the location does leave something to be desired, as it can be hard to get in and out of the nearby parking lots and the lots themselves are small. Ponak’s is definitely worth the drive over from the Kansas side, and a great idea for anybody in need of either pitchers of margaritas or pitchers of sangria. Oh, and head on down to Boulevard Brewing for a tour while you’re in the area! You won’t be disappointed.

I have been going to Ponak’s for about 8-10 years. I have always received good service until tonight. Our server was slow and didn’t acknowledge my presence after I came in from parking the car (I was there with my elderly parents and dropped them at the door). I probably sat for about 15 minutes when I asked who our server was. He spoke up when he heard me ask and was sarcastic when he spoke to me. Then, one of the members at my table received her fajita plateaus had it for about 10 minutes without receiving the rice and beans that are supposed to come with it. When I tried to ask another server that was nearby about it, she cut me off mid sentence and had an extremely rude reply. When I asked our server for more of the extra mild sauce for my mother, he mocked me by asking 3or 4 times “are you sure it isn’t for you? Are you sure you want the mild mild mild sauce?” When I complained about the service to my family and friends (yes a bit loudly), yet a different server, after glaring at me ran to the manager. When I tried to speak to the manager, he threatened to kick me out and call the police. Other than being a bit mouthy, I did nothing wrong. I have NEVER received such rude and disrespectful service, ANYWHERE!

Great margaritas, and Alexandro, the bartender, was amazing. The place was crowded (35 min wait), but it was worth it. Wait staff was slammed, so no courtesies (barely a hello). Would definitely go back.

Same great tasting TexMex that we have enjoyed for many years - portions are good and taste excellent. The value was very good and the service was excellent. Ponak's house margaritas are outstanding and a great value. BTW - we must drive a half hour to get there and us well worth the travel time.

I adore the guacamole and white cheese sauce. My husband and other family members love the crispy tacos and fish tacos! The staff are attentive and friendly. The restaurant seating has a bar side and a dining side, while the entire place is clean and uncrowded. I would recommend Ponak's to anyone who loves Mexican dishes!

the food was great. I had tacos and enchiladas and the portions were big if your not a big eater you might want to split a dinner . The price was reasonable and definitely worth it for how good the food was. We also ordered a pitcher of margaritas and they were fantastic!!

We are avid Mexican food eaters and Ponak's has been recommended to us many times so we decided to give it a try. The margs were delicious, but the service and food was not exceptional. I've had worse, but I've definitely had better! Don't see us going back.
