Best shakes and steak burgers for the price!
Servers always friendly if you cool.
I love getting a triple with either chili sheese 50/50 or onion/fries with a strawberry shake.
We always go to Winstead’s when we are in Kansas City! The food is great! Good burgers, fries, rings and shakes! Just a short walk from the Plaza. Love the vintage vibe with turquoise booths and green and pink neon.
This Kansas City icon has been serving good food fast to hungry residents for over 80 years. I have been enjoying the burgers and milk shakes for fifty years at this plaza location. I personally have some great memories of spending time with Family and friends here. A large dining room with a 1950s feel complete with an old fashion jute box. Plenty of off street parking with a drive through that replaced the old car hops that were active here through the 1970s. Be sure to check out happy hour from 3 to 6 pm for half price drinks , sodas and shakes! This is the best deal in town their milkshakes and malts are great!! And a fair value at full price don't miss it!
Pretty nice spot to drop by for a quick burger or one of the other items they have on the menu. It's 24 hour drive thru and really hit the spot after the Chiefs game.
A classic diner and they keep their prices affordable. It shows its age, but there’s a lot of love for the place, and I think they could have a donation fund to fix the booths and lights and people would gladly contribute. It’s getting harder to find a booth seat that’s not torn open.
Ever since I was a young child, I liked eating from and at Winstead’s Steakburgers, especially their milkshakes. I even remember when there used to be a Winstead’s location in the Northland, and it was located really close to my house, and there were about 9 or 10 locations around the Kansas City metropolitan area. But now, there are currently 2 or 3 locations left. My family & I either went through the Drive-Thru or dined in at Winstead’s. The restaurants have always had good service at the drive-through and in the dining room. The place looks like a diner from the 1950s on the inside and on the outside too,
The menu at Winstead’s Drive-In is known for steakburgers, old school soda-fountain desserts, and breakfast in the mornings. One notable menu item that Winstead’s is famous for is their “skyscraper-height” ice cream soda floats and milkshakes that are meant to feed two, three, or even four customers. The last time me and my dad went to Winstead’s on the Country Club Plaza was back in late July of this year. We ordered two Winstead Steakburgers with 3 large platters of 3 different side dishes. We also got two different flavors of milkshakes with our order. My Winstead burger had a lot of toppings The bottom line is that me and my dad’s food was delicious like any other time we ate at Winstead’s.
If there are customers who would like to eat at an old school style 1950s diner that is also an old school soda fountain, I would recommend that Winstead’s Steakburgers is the restaurant to eat at in Kansas City. The Winstead’s location on the Country Club Plaza is the original location, and it’s drive-through is opened 24 hours.
A classic Kansas City diner. Great spot for a casual lunch. My go-to is the double steakburger with regular limeade and a 50/50 (half onion rings and half fries).
Their prices are very reasonable (base price for the double burger is currently about $5). You do have to pay extra for certain toppings, but the prices are still fair. Service is usually very quick.
The burgers themselves are cooked well and taste great.
Fries, tots, and onion rings are always crispy.
If you want to have some extra fun, order a skyscraper (equivalent of 3 large shakes).
We love Jennifer!! I was taking senior photos for a couple of girls that LOVE Winstead’s. We asked Jennifer if she would be okay if we snapped a few photos in the restaurant. She not only agreed but went above and beyond to make sure our experience there was exceptional!
Skyscraper shake is enough for 4 people, the burgers and delicious as are the tots and onion rings. Love Winstead’s!
Was my first time there. I ordered 2 chocolate sodas. But only received one. It was brought to my attention that I had only been charged one. I proceeded to order another one. The second one did not look the same as the first one. But none the less. It tasted really good.
