Back Door Cafe

Great atmosphere and friendly service. The menu never disappoints. Portions are just right. Do not be afraid to try something new because it is always prepared with excellence. Great place to take my mother for her birthday dinner. If you haven't had Back Door Café before, then do yourself a favor and treat yourself.

The food was excellent! I had the salmon and my wife had the cod...perfectly done! That being said, the only reason I didn't rate this place with five stars was the service; absolutely horrible! The waitress walked passed us without any type of acknowledgemental whatsoever numerous times. When she finally stopped at our table 45 minutes after sitting down, she started to make some excuses as to why she would come back to take our order. I had to cut her off and tell her that we knew what we wanted and were ready to order. We both order the soup of the day which we assumed was already prepared... well, a half hour later, we got our soup. The soup was excellent btw! I understand busy, but the complete lack of acknowledgemental and communication by the waitress ruined it for us. It's a shame because the food was excellent!

Small joint with character, but you don't feel too crowded. This place is tucked away in Cambria City; you'd miss it if you weren't looking for it. Drink menu is very extensive. First time there and the meal was very good. They offer some original dishes, especially for the Johnstown area. It did seem a bit like some of the customers were regulars....clique-like. Seemed like we were treated as the newcomers by the staff. Not treated badly, but not in the in crowd.

The atmosphere is excellent, and the staff is very friendly. Unfortunately, our food was somewhere between 'okay' and 'good' depending on the course, and it's fairly pricey for the food to not be 'great'. We would likely give it another try at some point in the future, but unless a future visit is better it won't be a restaurant we hit with much frequency.

We visited the Back Door Cafe this past Thursday and enjoyed a wonderful evening. The food was absolutely wonderful. We had a party of five and each person enjoyed every entree served. The service was great and Denise provided our party with answers to all our questions regarding the menu. Everything about the Back Doir Cafe was great. Plan to return many times. Thank you for this wonderful place.

I have had some decent dining intown, but almost always with the caveat that it was very good, ‘for Johnstown’. There are no conditions necessary for the food, atmosphere or service at the Backdoor Café. It can stand with the finest anywhere. We sampled the genuine Caesar salad, made classically with raw egg and anchovy, it was worth any danger. The mushroom soup was savory and flavorful and emphatically NOT a cream soup and the flatbread appetizer amazing. The Lobster ravioli was another case of letting the primary ingredient speak loudest in the dish. The tomato confit complimented and did not dominate the seafood flavor in the ravioli. The Lamb & the Duck each perfectly prepared and delicious. Desserts were extraordinary, a magnificent turtle cheese cake and a berry Tiramisu were each special.
