Sweet!. Best sweet Plantains!
The best!. I have been going here for years and it's a treat every time. Great food and friendly staff.
Gem in Lakeshore. You can't go wrong with their $5.99 lunch specials. We love the roast pork and fried chicken on Wednesdays. It comes with rice and beans and sweet plantains. Also try the tostones- smashed, fried plantains with garlic sauce. The owner is nice and encouraged us to bring friends for a happy hour. Hopefully this will be the first of many restaurants to move into the Lakeshore neighborhood.
Good food. Lots of great food at a low price. Love the fried porkchop and the Puerto Plata sandwich.
I'm from PR....and this my friend is one the best place I ever been satisfade..recomended 100%.
Mmmmmmmm!!!!. I have been twice with my best friend. He has eaten there many times and loves it. I had a pork dish the first time and the arroz con pollo the second time. Both times with the plantanos maduros (YUMMY!). The salad is simple (which is good - why fill up on rabbit food??), the dressing is delish! The portions are HUGE and they both made GREAT leftovers! The service is great the staff is wonderful, the prices are very reasonable and they have the cleanest bathroom I have ever seen (and you know you can tell a lot about a restaurant from their bathrooms). The only thing I would warn you of is watch your step, there's a bit of a slope just inside the door. If I could give this a "LOVE IT" I would.
My Puerto Plata experience was wonderful. A friend of mine had been trying to get me to this restaurant for months; we finally made it today, and it was an exuberating experience. From the time, we walked in the door the service and accommodation were superb, and authentic. We enjoyed the friendly staff, and the food…., the fantastic food: I recommend the Pernil-roast port w/yellow rice and plantas. I will visit Puerto Plata again the next time I'm in Jacksonville, FL.
Best Latin Food in Town! Bar None!. I think this is the best Latin Food in town(not that there are many choices).
Extremely reasonable during lunch. You can get a lunch meal for $5.95 and you'll usually have more than you can eat.
I've been coming here since they first opened 10 years ago and consistently they are the some of the best food in Jacksonville at very reasonable prices.
Don't be shy, go on in, you'll be glad you did.
Had lunch here today for the first time with my grams. Amazing food and they give you plenty of it. I will be a returning customer.
Honestly the best food I've ever had!! Must eat in jax!!!
Friendly staff and bright inside. We just wanted a quick snack and were able to get that. We had empanadas and I had a side of black beans. The latter, "habichuelas guisadas," seemed like they were made from scratch but lacked any flavor (didn't seem to have any onions, green pepper, garlic, or spices to note) and were a bit hard. I'm used to Cuban black beans that are more flavorful. Otherwise I'd recommend it to try Dominican cuisine. It did have a lot of locals who were doing take out.
If you have never been to this restaurant you are missing out on a hidden gem....I have to throw the fork down the food is amazing the staff is so friendly I have been going here from owner to new owner and the menu just gets better ....I wish I could give this place 20 stars authentic Spanish food I love it .....I had the stew goat with pigeon peas rice tostones with the garlic sauce omggggg google them for the menu you will love it to
Our first time trying our Puerto Plata was amazing. The waitress was kind and informative. The restaurant was clean and colorful! The food was freshly cooked and amazing. We had the sweet plantains, yellow rice, black beans, fried pork and baked chicken. WOW. The chicken was so tender. We’ll definitely be coming back and spreading the word!
I randomly found Puerto Plata while researching local restaurants in Jacksonville, and I’m so glad we went to check it out. It seemed like a super local spot, which are always the best! All of our food was amazing, the cocktails don’t mess around, and the staff were super helpful and friendly. If you’re looking for authentic Dominican in Jacksonville, definitely go check them out.
I only leave reviews if the food absolutely blows me out of the water and this did. Incredible food. The meat was tender and flavorful. The beans had great flavor. Highly recommend!
I visited Puerto Plata on 8/18/2023 and discovered they had reopened for inside dining. I quickly decided that I would dine in instead of getting an order to go. My intention was to get my go-to meal which is beef stew, yellow rice, and black beans. I ended up ordering the goat stew, yellow rice, and black beans. I also ordered a side of fried chicken and a mango margarita. OMG, my new selections did not disappoint!!! I'm soooo glad I tried the new dishes! Everything was amazing! My server was very attentive and she always had a smile on her face each time she visited my table. I had plenty left over to indulge in the next day. 😍
Good Latin food. Made fresh. Prepare to wait. No steam table here. Had the steak with onions and beef stew with fried sweet plantains. Outdoor seating available. Will be back.
Return: Updated, relaxing atmosphere.
Attentive service. Tasty, delicious food. Full portions, reasonable.
They're always so nice to us here and the food is great every time. If you want authentic Puerto Rican food I suggest you make a stop here.
This was my first time going inside after the pandemic...boy was I pleasantly surprised! The ambiance, the food, and the service were great! Super friendly staff and the food was well seasoned with the right combo of seasoning and saltines. Will definitely be going back for a little piece of DR in Jacksonville.
Found this gem by accident while in the Lake Shore area of Jacksonville. Food, service and atmosphere were perfect. Garlic lovers, and I'm one of them, this is your place! Pruebelo!
