Review Bistro Aix - Jacksonville

G's mail
AIX Bistro is a phenomenal restaurant offering French Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. The presentation of each dish was exquisite, and the service was outstandingly and friendly. While there was a minor hiccup with the Ahi Tuna pieces that were served, the issue was promptly resolved. Everything else on the menu was delectable, including the drinks. Additionally, AIX Bistro boasts a beautifully decorated bar lounge area in another room located at the rear of the restaurant, adding a touch of class and elegance to the overall experience. If you're in the area, it's definitely a must-try dining destination.

I would say that Bistro Aix has one of the best happy hours in Jax right now. The cocktails and a selected number of appetizers are all $7. Everything is fantastic! If you sit at the bar or anywhere in the back room you are going to have great service. Tom and Taylor are the bartenders I have the most experience with and they are the BEST. I stopped in one time on a whim after not going for years. Now I stop in almost once a week. The mussels are my favorite but the wood fired margherita pizza is yummy as well.

Really nice lunch for my first time. I've been hearing the raves for years. It almost lived up to the hype. The service and dessert were killer. The main course was "cool". A great place to try out.

Our server, Serena, was so helpful and in general super great! Our appetizers were tasty, the Tartines were yummy but the bread was really crunchy, the crispy calamari and shrimp was the best part! Super tasty and everything went well together, the little salad on the side was kind of strange though for the looks I can understand it. Our steak frites was okay, the steak and green beans NEEDED salt, it was kind of sweet and the steak was cooked nicely, and the frites were a great texture.

Outstanding everything! Service by Madison and Rosie was top notch. Food was excellent.

Okay, this happy hour is in the top five of my lifetime favorites, and I travel for a living! The happy hour food items (weekdays, you must sit in the bar area, not the main restaurant) are good sized servings of amazing food. And the wine and beer prices for this time period are great-the wine was particularly wonderful as the best house wine I've encountered. We had enough food to take home and have a second meal (yes, from the happy hour menu!). The staff was extremely friendly-we walked into the wrong side of the restaurant, were seated, and when I asked about they happy hour menu we were changed to the correct area graciously and kindly. No one made us feel uncomfortable for the mistake and the kindness continued with the bartender who was great and helpful with the menu. He told us how impressive the food items were and he was correct. Make it a point to go during their weekday happy hour times, but I also think the kitchen must crank out some great food on the restaurant side as well if the treats we had are at all representative. Nice vibe, great food, friendly people-a real gem of a spot we would visit weekly if we lived in Jacksonville.

To start the service was wonderful. Jesse our server had such a great attitude, Rose another server was also taking care of us by continuing to provide us with anything extra we could ask for and Mike the chef did fantastic in the kitchen. The calamari had a delicious garlic wine sauce which I ended up soaking up with the fluffy tomato focaccia they provide. The scallop with risotto great. The scallops were most definitely fresh and the risotto was so creamy and perfect cooked. The duck special of the day just merged so well together. The wine reduction, mushrooms, foie gras, duck, and white bean purée all paired so well together. Then this place truly shines with the desserts we ordered. The creme brûlée was perfectly set with a truly amazing crust with the perfect amount of char. Then my favorite most definitely has to be the blueberry lemon mint panna cotta. The panna cotta was a light blueberry and vanilla topped with a blueberry mint sauce and a lemon whipped cream I believe. It was also garnished with strawberries and mint and when you combine a little bit of everything in one bite you end up in heaven. I will be dreaming about the panna cotta for the foreseeable future wishing I could have it again. Too bad we are just visiting the city. Great place would come again.

While visiting Jacksonville, we decided to go to Bistro Aix for a birthday celebration. The menu looked very good and it had high ratings based on a fairly large number of reviews. Parking was not a problem. We were having a late lunch and there was parking on the street near the restaurant. As we had hoped, the late time for lunch (l:45) meant the restaurant was not very crowded. The restaurant was still open and we were quickly greeted and sat in a comfortable booth. The dinner menu is more extensive than the luncheon menu. That is not unusual but, as luck would have it, not everything on the luncheon menu was available either. The crab cakes ordered as an appetizer were small but there were three of them and they were very good. The sweet potato soup was the soup of the day. Two of us ordered that and it was outstanding—smooth, creamy and with a delightful flavor. The short ribs were on the menu and sounded excellent and the server recommended the dish. Unfortunately, that dish was not available. I opted for the steak frites. It was accompanied by haricot vert (green beans and french fries). The steak was cooked medium rare, as ordered, and was tender and flavorful. The beans were still crunchy, not boiled to ruin the natural flavor and texture) and the fries were a little too salty but tasted very good and cooked perfectly. My two dining companions ordered the snapper fish special which was accompanied by asparagus and brussel sprouts. The first order of fish was very salty and the person who ordered it does not care for food that is heavily salted. Our server, Marina, was very accomodating and ordered another snapper dish as a replacement. It was not salted and cooked perfectly. The other diner was not as sensitive to salty food and enjoyed the snapper and the side dishes very much. For dessert I selected a berry almondine with vanilla ice cream that was to be served warm. As it turned out, that dish was no longer available as it had sold out. I opted for the tuxedo chocolate cake which was outstanding and had a beautiful presentation. (See the accompanying photo.) It was delicious and, as the name implies, had a strong chocolate flavor with whipped cream and strawberries on the side. All three of us enjoyed the cake and it was quickly consumed. Moreover, as I had noted on the reservation that this was a birthday celebration, there was no charge for the birthday cake dessert. There is an extensive wine list by the bottle. As is usually the case, the "by the glass" list of options is considerably more restricted. There is still a good variety of wine available by the glass. I deferred a bottle as driving through Jacksonville traffic can be a challenge and settled for one excellent glass of cabernet to accompany the steak frites. Our server was very good and made sure everything was taken care of. Marina was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and her attention to detail made the occasion more enjoyable. Bistro Aix was an enjoyable experience and worth a visit. I would prefer the more elaborate menu for the evening meal but the items we selected were delicious. The biggest disappointment, which was quickly remedied, was the heavily salted fish entree which is somewhat unusual for a high end restaurant. All of the selections were well prepared, flavorful, and contributed to a happy birthday family celebration.

This place has a nice environment. We have a big party and they provided a nice table for us. They don’t have a big selection on their menu, and happy hour ends at 7pm. Their appetizers taste ok, not so impressive. HOWEVER their entrees are delicious. I tasted the short ribs lamb and scallops. Scallops and risotto are the best! Dessert tasted nice as well and I ordered the lemon tart. Service is friendly. Will be back!

This place has great atmosphere and drinks, but most of all it's food !! I ordered scallops and salmon; and, wow!!! Food in small pieces that pack large windmill kicks to the face, even Bruce Lee would be proud. The scallops perfectly seared on once side, sweet salty, moist, paired with mushrooms broccoli was exquisite. The salmon was moist and flavorful, no lingering of unexpected flavors just clean and tasty. The dessert was decadent, smooth and just enough to make you want more, even though you are beyond full.

This was my first visit back since they reopened after the storm and I was pleasantly surprised. The decor is different than how it’s been in the past, but I love what they’ve done. The open kitchen is still my favorite. I love seeing a kitchen in action. We had the duck, the chicken, and the short rib. Everything was prepared wonderfully, but my short rib was the winner! It was delicious! I look forward to my next visit!

Excellent dinner tonight. Service is top notch & the food was delicious. A nice variety of wine to choose from. The Escargot was as good as advertised! Yellow snapper was terrific!! Perfectly prepared. The Cioppino was delicious with lots of tasty morsels. The sauce was very tasty as were the shrimp & fish. Dessert: the crembulee was perfect! Thanks Imad for making the evening special.. BTW: safe place to relax & dine! Please support this iconic place!!

My boyfriend surprised me with a birthday party at BistroX. Everyone enjoyed and can’t stop talking about the food and the service. I was pleasantly shocked about the prices. Will tell all my friends about it. Thank You

A charming establishment and the food was phenomenal. I had the gnocchi and my partner the bolognese following a selection of fruits and cheeses. Slight service complaint: We made reservations for a Saturday evening and requested a booth in the reservation notes. We were told booths could not be reserved but we could request one. Upon arrival we were shown to a circular booth. I asked if we could be seated at a traditional booth - and was told they were already reserved (even though at another point I was told booths couldn't been reserved). This was odd and a disappointment. All-in-all a nice time.

Bistro X looks like has lots of new ideas and new things in the making . Tried the home made mozzarella and some black ink linguine with seafood , made to perfection..!!

Had a reservation for Saturday night, restaurant was only half full though. Recently reopened after hurricane, nicely remodeled with new menu. Had been for lunch years ago and always wanted to try dinner. I had the trout ($22) which was dry, only had a few dollops of sauce, 1/2 dozen small raw oysters ($16) came with vinegar for dipping - felt was over priced. Husband is picky eater so had the burger - he said is was fine. Had a chocolate dessert that was really good.

We've had dinner several times, last night we had the worst meal, ever. They need a Chief that knows how to prepare and cook a meal. Either send him to culinary institute of America or get a new chief.

Fine dinning bistro style. We enjoyed a fried Mahi sandwich (daily catch)& Aixoise Salad with sautéed calamari, both were very good. The made-in-house kettle chips were yummy, as well as the recommended Sanserre (sp?) wine.

I went here with my boyfriend on our 2-year anniversary, and this place knocked us out of our socks! We started with escargot, brie, and ceviche, and then had lamb and grouper for our entrees. The fish had large, white, meaty flakes, it was tender, flavorful, and the skin was crisp and delicious! I normally do not order fish, but this was the best fish I ever had! My boyfriend said the same about his lamb! Our server, Robert, was very pleasant, friendly, and took very good care of us. His service was top-notch. I can't wait to dine here again!
T
Great drinks and service at the bar. Oysters were very fresh. Dinner was great the escargot and spare ribs were great as well as a lava cake for dessert. Great atmosphere and food.

Went on a date at Bistro Aix last Friday and had a really great experience all around. It was a last minute restaurant choice and normally that is hard to pull off at a popular place on a Friday, but there were open tables and seats at the bar in the lounge. Fine we us. The bartenders were friendly, very knowledgeable, and had delicious recommendations. The Pork Choucroute is my new favorite! It has tender pork shoulder, housemade sausage, potato dumplings, and julianned apples and whole gain mustard which add a tartness to the savory meatiness. Try it! I will definitely go back soon.
Rachel Kinue
Took a newbie and he loved it. Went with the classic blue cheese chips which are crispy and cooked perfectly every time.

Main course 1: special pork shoulder with mustard glaze, Napa cabbage with red wine vinaigrette, apples and potato dumplings.

Main course 2: house made ravioli stuffed with crab and shrimp.

Service is impeccable. Always perfect. Try out happy hour M-F 3:30-6:30.

We had not been to Bistro Aix in a while but were intrigued by their new oyster bar that they had been promoting. The oyster bar is where the front bar used to be and seats about 10. As soon we sat down, the executive chef Ian came over and introduced himself. It turns out that we are neighbors! He treated us to tuna tartar which was delicious! So much so that my wife ordered a second one for her dinner. We also some of the best Blue Point oysters that we have had. I had seafood raviolis which were so good!Everything was outstanding!

One of our favorite spots in Jax. Lovely little place in San Marco, great ambiance, and top notch service. The Blue Cheese Chips are so delicious. Definitely worth a visit.

For me hands down, Bistro Aix is the mecca fine dining spot in San Marco area. The ghost of Chef Tom Grey still mark the walls for me, but the current stars of the kitchen Executive Chef Ian Lynch, Chef de Cuisine Zeke Mears along with their cast of Sous chefs and not to ever be forgotten an outstanding Pastry chef have made this a spot to see and be seen if you know good food and how it should be presented. When I entertain guests, or just want to treat myself this is where I head. Everything about this spot radiates class and an old world charm, from the exposed brick walls, open chef’s kitchen and wood fire oven to the onyx bar situated off the main dining room. Service is impeccable, staff fully versed in all items that appear on the menu, attentive but not intrusive. Weekends finds the bar scene alive with a bevy of San Marco regulars and those of us who just like the vibe. showing up for some great music and an array of craft cocktails. Lets explore what we had on this visit.

Pasta Glue. Today I went to Bistro Aix. Usually a pretty decent place yet today half of the Shrimp Tagliatelle's pasta was stuck together so badly it was like glue. The shrimp was hard but not inedible. When I mentioned this to the waiter he took it back but never returned with an apology. Not that I needed one but an acknowledgement would have been nice. Once he came with the bill I remarked at my surprise that the chef had not said anything and his response was that the pasta maker was scolded. This negligence worries me for several reasons: 1: the chef has lost touch, two there was no effort to make at least the cheapest item in our meal complimentary. Lastly, Aix is becoming a restaurant I just stop going to. Jacksonville has so few good restaurants. Like BB's and many others. And the chef's are just so unaware of how to cook even seafood, a staple of Florida. This is mind blowing.

Escargot. The best escargot and French onion soup ever!

Steady Performer. Monday night. The place had a nice crowd. We were very near the kitchen / waitstaff pickup point. Noisy, but the whole place is pretty noisy. Good food. Good service. Consistently good. The margherita pizza was superb. Look forward to our next trip back.

Thank Goodness for the new owners!!! The food and service was great! ! The beet salad and roasted Lamb is amazing! What an improvement. Can't wait to return. Yum!

Bistro Aix Experiance. I had a reservation for dinner at Bistro Aix for dinner. We were seated at the back table by the kitchen. I asked if there was another table available. Some tables you could tell were obviously reserved. Another person in my party asked about a table that appeared to be available. We were told that the table was for someone important. I responded by saying that we were important. We were then told that we could explain that to the owner's parents. A nice response would have been, I'm sorry but all of the tables are reserved. Bistro Aix might want to remember that without their unimportant guests, they would not have a business for their important guests to come to. They had no problem taking our unimportant money. By the.way, the food was great. Our unimportant visit was for a birthday which was very important to us.

Always great. The service, atmosphere, and food are always top notch.

Really like this place but the last two times were disappointing the bar tender is smacking gum like a cheap hocker on 8 th ave. On the second visit we informed the MOD of the issue and I believe that she was clueless about health code rules and regulations about chewing gum while on the floor of a food establishment. Will give it another try but will walk out the door if the bartender is chomping away!

Bistro AIX Is Great. Went to Bistro AIX a couple weeks back. Had the catch of the day fish sandwich and the tomato soup. I would like to go back during dinnertime to see the real rush of the restaurant. This is a gem of a restaurant, just what JAX needs.
Celizabethnewton
Liz. Excellent, as always! Can never go wrong when you eat here. The quiche is divine! The Aixois calamari salad is the best. One of my favorite restaurants in Jax.

Consistently Good. Had dinner before the Huey Lewis show on Sunday 12/8. Food was delicious as usual. Wife had the steak frites and I had the Mahi special. Can never go wrong here. Got us in and out in plenty of time for the show.

Bargain whatever. Not a bargain...what is this place for people who are not even hungy? give me a break!
Foodie From Louisville
Fine food, a bargain!. We ate here twice during the two months we stayed in San Marco. This was our favorite restaurant in Jacksonville. The filet mignon was heavenly, as were the scalloped potatoes. Everything is cooked to order perfectly, and presentation is superb. I love the fact that you can get "petit" portions of most anything, since I can never finish a whole meal and hate taking home leftovers. Second time I had a fish sandwich, and it was just OK. French onion soup was pretty good. Still, I would definitely return to Bistro Aix if ever I am back in Jacksonville! Wine list is impressive for by the glass portions. Bananas foster is a let-down. Not sure why I ordered it. I never enjoy it.

Excellent food and service, not sure how it only has an 85%.....this is why we can't have nice things jacksonville!
AviatorShades25
Good place (probably second best in the entirety of Duval County - see Orsay)! Food is always enjoyable, menu is varied, service is pleasant, and the bar has a great selection. Well dressed crowd and reasonable decibel levels make it an appropriate venue for a romantic night out or a business meet up. Highly recommended!

I've heard very mixed reviews about Bistro Aix, but my experience was extremely pleasant. The service was wonderful, the ambiance was charming and rustic, and the food was really good and not too heavy or skimpy in portions. A very solid birthday dinner. A little noisy if you sit near the bar, though.
Robert
Went for lunch and was disappointed. Not the same Aix.
Cindy Sheppard
Apparently their great chef has took off and with it went everything else! We where in for dinner the other night and despite it being somewhat busy, the server seemed rushed and unknowledgeable. I had asked her if she could recommend any good Cabernet's and her answer was, "They are all good" Our courses where rushed and all the food was very bland compared to our previous experiences. Despite the fact that the restaurant was busy, we noticed that the manager lady was virtually standing around doing nothing during the time we where there. At one point we had noticed her blatantly yelling at one of the hostesses at the host stand. Completely unprofessional. We have dined her many times before, but unfortunately this might be the last time.

This place was perfect for date nite. It was pretty empty for 9pm on a Saturday nite but me and the fiancee were so glad we came. The decor looks really nice...but in the back is really chic! We sat near the Onyx Bar...which happens to be my fiancee name (she received a free glass of wine lol). She ordered a Mango Martini which she absolutely enjoyed, for apps I had the Truffle French Fries, Amazing!! She had the Tomato and Goat Cheese Confit, not a fan of GC but the fiacee enjoyed every bit (even used the table bread to finish it off lol)! For our Entrees we shared the Tomato And Basil pizza...not the best but very tasty! Dessert was all for her as she ordered the Banana Foster, it was very warm and she said caramel was exquisite! All in all...a really great place for a date, if you don't mind the noise level which got loud because of the large party we dined next to you! We will definitely be going back in the near future!

Visited bistro aix with some coworkers for lunch, it was an amazing find, I've heard many good things about the place but never actually went. I highly recommend this place!

My fiancé and I just came in for happy hour and sat outside. We had the olive appetizer which was exceptional. Our server was John, and he was perfect. He checked in on us often. Drinks and appetizers came out very quickly. Overall great experience.

Inconsistent Risotto. We hosted a party of 12 to celebrate our daughters college graduation April 26th. We made our reservation days earlier and mentioned it was a special occasion. When we arrived we found our seating was a long row of tables pulled together, impossible for conversation. We asked if we could be reseated in back room. No, they didn't have enough servers (On a Friday night???) We choose this restaurant because I have dietary restrictions. Most of our family were satisfied with their meals. My husband & I ordered the same thing, the risotto. Two different risottos came out. Mine was watery, no pumpkin seeds, LOTS of chicken. My husbands was dry, creamy but tasteless, had pumpkin seeds but little chicken. I gave him mine to finish. I ate my meal without mentioning because our service person served me my appetizer (a great smoked tomato soup) WITH my meal so I had something to eat. Not wanting to upset my daughters celebration, we chose to quietly mention the inconsistency of the meals to our service person and suggested she point that out to the expeditor. She apologized but no one else came back to talk with us about it! No manager, no expeditor nor did the waitperson seem too worried about our problem. I guess because the 20% mandatory tip was already added and we had signed the check. Disappointing ...I was expecting so much and told our service person that when I ordered the risotto. Won't go back, won't recommend. That will be 12 people telling others who will tell others about our experience. Parking is ridiculous. Ambiance is very chic but all I wanted was a good risotto!

This is definitely somewhere you need to eat... Not should, need to! My friend and I are both chefs at a private platinum club - we both agreed that this was, without question, the best food either of us have had outside of work. The potato-parmesan gnocchi with oxtail ragout and creamed leeks was out of this world. Sean, our server, was friendly, knowledgable and very attentive. When you go, ask for him!

Best Restaurant Martini!. My Father raved and left the table to compliment the bartender/mixologist on his Martini. I had the same, and it was excellent. Good drinks got everyone in a good mood for interesting presentations and interpretations of favorite foods. Flavors for the Escargot served over a puffed pastry and garlic cream sauce were wonderful. Shrimp Scampi Pizza was beautiful and delicious. Sweet potatoes were so smooth and tasty. Unique was a wonderful vegetable plate with roasted baby brussels sprouts. Save room for the extensive dessert menu. We tried the chocolate/espresso tort and vanilla bean cream brulee; very good and not so excessively sweet. Wait staff was attentive. Inside noise levels are "festive" but there are some table near bakery counter which are better lit and quieter. Outside looks like a secret garden with vine covered walls, but it was too cold for us to try. We will be back and heartily recommend this restaurant.
MelinJax
Like it, but need to emphasize others' comments regarding salt - someone in the kitchen has a very heavy hand . And there is no need if the ingredients are fresh and well-sourced. Overall, lovely.
Food Snob
Head chef is gone and so is their flavor. Food was over salted or left tasteless. This was once our favorite. The absence of their best chef will lead to their downfall.
Lovegoodfood
Good food but service is awful!! If Todd is still working there please concentrate on your tables. Give "each" one of them 100% not just select tables!
To the manager- maybe have a word with your servers about service.

Try the Chips. Delicious

Had an excellent meal here with my coworkers tonight. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, waiter was friendly and attentive and the general agreement was the food was wonderful. I'm only sorry I'm from out of town and probably won't get another chance to eat here soon.
Constant Comment
Bistro Ecchh?. Mrs. Simpatico and I made a return visit after many years avoiding this place. The results were less than satisfactory, especially given the price. My Fish Aixoise had to be returned because of a salt content rivaling a box of Morton's. The same situation also applied to the French fries. Management was altogether content to replace both the fish and the fries. Unfortunately, the broth that accompanied the mussels was equally salty, although the mussels were meaty, tender, and tasty. The fish is described on the menus as: "Fish "Aixoise"
on artichokes, olives, local greens & potatoes with orange oil." The artichokes, olives, and local greens were barely detectable. If the name "Aixoise" is referring to Aix en Provence, and typical flavors of that region, it definitely missed the mark. The decent portion of fish swam in a pool of oil -- one with no detectable trace of orange flavor. The real bummer on this dining excursion was the special beet salad appetizer. Featuring both red and golden beets, it was served with arugula and was advertised to include two different vinaigrettes. The relatively bland plate that arrived appeared nearly bereft of any seasoning. For $11 that would have needed to be an absolutely boffo salad. As it arrived, it was nothing but pedestrian. Service was a bit cloying.

A reason to skip the chains. I have been living in Jacksonville for about a year now and have been to Bistro Aix several times. I have never had a bad experience with either the food or the service. On our last visit we had gnocci and scallops, both were that nights special I believe. It's not often you get gnocci cooked correctly and they managed to pull it off. Pizza is also excellent. Keep up the good work.
J.M.
Excellent. Great food, good service, cool atmosphere. Have some flourless chocolate torte to finish your meal.
Michael Spino
Rushed. The tomato soup was overpowered by the smoke flavor. I enjoyed the chicken with farro and grilled baby eggplants. The crab cakes were well received as were the gnocchi. Nice wine list. The service felt rushed with the entrees coming up just as the app plates were cleared. Not sure I'll be back.

Excellent food. The steak is better than Ruth Chris!

1st time coming here an I can say it wont be my last. Our food was delicious. Wife had the crab cakes for an appetizers an I tried the french onion soup. Both were really good including our main entrees I had the tagliatelle which was pasta an shrimp in a creme sauce, my wife had a special dish which consisted of mussels, grilled scallops, shrimp, mashed potatoes, in a tomato sauce similar to a gumbo. Food was very flavorful, prepared well an our server Kelly was excellent. One of the best in Jacksonville.
Elin
Amazing food, amazing service. Beautiful experience all around. We had the filet with scalloped potatoes and grilled tuna with horseradish mashed potatoes. Cooked to perfection, presented with a lovely flair. If you eat here, ask for a table in Johnny's section. Excellent service!
Lexi
First time treat! My fiancé and I are new to the area and this has become one of our favorite spots. Best dirty martini ever! First time eating escargot and am now a fan because it was delectable! Food was very fresh and atmosphere was really nice. There was no wait because we got there as soon as the doors opened. Definitely a nice change from the chain restaurants at the St. John's town center.

Wonderful. Went twice in two days while visiting Jacksonville. It was a wonderful experience. The first night we sat at the bar and Blair took care of us. We had Prosciutto Salad, Jonah Crab, Homemade Tagliatelle, and Spicy Sausage Pizza. Everything was prepared perfectly and was delicious. For dessert was had a brownie with vanilla ice cream and the Profiteroles, also AMAZING! I would highly recommend this establishment. Sit at the bar if you can, the second night we sat in the dining room and the gentleman that served us was a bit snooty and inattentive.

GREAT!. Awesome restaurant. Reasonably priced! Great cocktails! Get an appetizer so you don't leave hungry. Dining room is a little dark, which is perfect for boozing and eating.

JD

Love it... Have always had a great experience here from a sudden lunch 6 yrs ago to coffee and dessert recently with plenty of dinners in between.

The food was good, not great; wine list weak for where they want to be; the service was great - the best thing about the meal

I always come to AIX on off hours due to my own business hours. I enjoy their limited menu during mid-day and have never been let down. I also want to add that their wood fired pizzas arent black ans charred like they are at another new place.

Seemed like I was rushed. Had dinner here for my Dad's birthday Saturday night, 6 of us total, and I felt like we were being rushed out. Every time I started a conversation with someone I was interrupted by the server. She was nice, but I felt like she was in a hurry. Additionally, our food arrived while we still had appetizers s on the table and before our bottle of wine arrived. Slightly bizarre as I like this place and the food was ok. For the price it should've been better.

Food is good, service is not. We won't be giving our money to Bistro anymore, we'll stick with Orsay. This was the second time going to Bistro and making reservations, but having to wait 40+ minutes. It was New Years Eve the second time we went. We ordered a nice bottle of wine, but had to pour our own glasses. The AC was blowing onto our food, which does make foie gras taste good at all. Our server seemed to not care much about us. Since we were seated so late we had rang New Years in at Bistro. Champagne was passed out, but only to the employees. We skipped dessert and coffee, so we didn't have to give anymore $ to this place. I just believe when you spend $200+ at a restaurant, service should most definitely match it.

Have always loved this place. Great for lunch or dinner. We've always had great food and great service.

Wonderful. The service was delightful and the waitress I have was very attentive. I was asked is my first visit and given a full breakdown of specials for the evening. All of the food was hot, delicious, just the right portion. After the months that I have procrastinated on coming to Bistro Aix it is now definitely at the top of my list of places to dine in Jacksonville.

Vegan fine dining. I can not praise this place enough. The only reason I can hate is the amount of stress you put on my wallet. Ask for the VEGAN menu it has all the options highlighted. Don't miss out on the risotto, their use of local an in season veggies makes me excited. Thanks guys.
Cara Louise
Not as good as expected.

A perfect 10... period. It is hard to write a review on your favorite restaurant without sounding biased. I have to say, in all fairness, that this place has it together. It is modestly pricey, but worth every penny of it. This is a great combination of a social atmosphere and fine dining. It is not stuffy, and the staff is on the spot! I dont believe there is anyting on the menu that I haven't ordered (except the beet salad/personally dislike beets) and I have thoroughly enjoyed EVERYTHING! I am now craving their filet, fresh steamed green beans, and some of their bread! Delicious!!!!!!

One of my favorite restaurants in Jacksonville. Love the Ahi Tuna. Meals have always been very good. Seating needs updating, getting a bit uncomfortable which is ridiculous for a restaurant of this caliber. Otherwise highly recommend.

Downhill. Bistro Aix was my favorite place in Jacksonville, but I feel it has gone downhill in the past year. The menu is dull and the last few meals I have had were shockingly disappointing.
The Crispy Duck Spring rolls have remained one of my favorite dishes here. The salty, sweet, crispy combination is wonderful. The chips are also good. Our most recent entrees, however is where Bistro Aix fell flat. The tagliatelle was sub-par, the risotto was a little undercooked, and the tuna was just OK. When we have ordered the daily specials, they were great ( I am still dreaming about a deep fried zucchini blossom which was out of this world), but the entrees have left little to be desired. Overall, the food is not bad but it is definitely not as good as it was/could be. I am willing to give them another chance.

THE BEST. This is by far the best place to dine in jacksonville. We have never had a bad meal!
Pedestrian Palette
Top notch. The bullet: Food-A,Service-A,Price-B,Vibe-A. This is arguably the best restaurant in the urban core. I go as often as I can. I like to get the steak frites for lunch and usually one of the specials for dinner. Don't skip the dessert, please.

The prices are not out of range for this class of food or level of service, both excellent. The vibe is casual chic but warm at the same time. Sitting at the bar is an experience.

Great food, a little pricy. This is a great resturant to eat at if you want a special date night or maybe if you are downtown seeing a show. Make sure you make reservations though or you will have to wait on the weekends. The service here is decent.. I think it could be better but the times I have eaten here its been so busy that it would be hard for even the best server to give 5 start attention to the guests.. our watier was literally running his butt off..

Our meal for the two of us was almost 100.00 including the tip.. but thats to be expected in a place like this..

Give it a try if you are looking for something different or a romantic date night out with your special someone..

My favorite place in Jacksonville, Fl. I always sit at the bar...great bar tenders and they make some wonderful Martinis. Also the Blue Cheese Chips are amazing, lots of cheese! I have had the pizzas too and they are so wonderful!!! Great food and wonderful place for drinks!!!

June Visit. I visited Bistro Aix twice in June, for the first time.

Nice dining room, very pleasant.Great courtyard in the back/side for below 90 degree heat.

Sat at the Chef's Counter on one visit, not much interaction with the kitchen staff, none of them said anything to me. I realize they are busy but a word or two would be nice when you have an exibition kitchen. Not even the manager, expediting, said a word to me. The chef, the sous chef, nothing. The young lady working the pizza station at least smiled. If you are not going to interact with the guests, don't have an exibition kitchen.

Menu: reads slightly better than it eats. Both visits they were out of entree items, and only told me when I ordered what they were out of. Seems a bit odd that I visit twice, and both times they are out of what I order.

Best thing I had was Risotto: Nice, very al-dente. = 8.5

Love the space, and I will go back in hopes that I hit it on two "off" nights.

Lastly, if you are price sensitive, the web site is out of date. Prices are higher. Onion soup is not $4.50, but rather $7.00, among others

Used to be great. I used to love bistro aix, but the quality of service and food has gone down in the last couple of years. The menu never changes other than the occasional special.

Food was amazing and our waiter "Aaron" was tremendous. He made the experience especially unique and enjoyable. Definitely will be going again

Delish. Stopped by Bistro AIX on a Monday afternoon on our way back home to South FL. We had the French Onion soup - best of my life! So different than the usual dark brown salty broth you usually see. It was sweet and creamy and definitely onion soup. Prosciutto and goat cheese salad was good, but nothing special. The mushroom and Fontina pizza was super yummy. For dessert we had the chocolate banana bread pudding with rum sauce and it was delicious. We left happy and full, and it was no more expensive than any chain restaurant. You should definitely go here!

Authentic french food sooo yummy!! :)

Bistro Aix is a favorite pre-theater venue for a group of friends. It's hip, casual, and somewhat noisy with an exciting vibe. Good value for money and the service is pretty fair even when crowded.

One of two best. Always delicious, always lively, always pleasant staff. Along with Orsay, the best in Jacksonville. After these two, mediocrity.

One of my favorite places in Jacksonville. I've eaten here numerous times. The food is fabulous and the service is always exceptional. I live in St. Augustine so it's a bit of a drive for me but always worth it!

An ounce of pretension is worth a pound of manure. After much debate my boyfriend and I decided to do our early valentaines celebration at Bistro Aix. I can say for sure that I will NEVER go back. I got the blue cheese chip app and the chips were burned. When I mentioned this to the waitress she gladly took them off the bill which was kind od her. Then I got my so called coq au vin main dish and it wasn't coq au vin at all. It was roasted chicken with wine sauce! My boyfriend enjoyed his food but agreed that it was wicked loud in the restaurant. The only bright spot for me about the whole place was Jessica, our wonderful waitress. She was sweet, attentive and picked out a great glass of wine for me that wasn't even on the menu. I wish she worked at a better place (like the Speckeled Hen).

Finally got to try this gem. I can't believe we've lived here six years and I'm only now getting to try Bistro Aix. In my defense, I always assumed it was a bit dressier or more formal than I usually prefer, but it turns out I was wrong. Our dinner last night was courtesy of a dear Jacksonville friend, and it was just perfect from beginning to end. Casual but energetic atmosphere, with a marvelous prix-fixe menu: $29 for three courses. The only dish that we ordered (and we ordered most of them!) that didn't really impress us was the caesar salad. It was certainly fresh and crisp, but no real depth of flavor.

We started with a trio of appetizers to share while we reviewed the menu: feather light fried calamari, escargot on puff pastry, and the roasted beets on a generous bed of three types of beluga lentils. The latter dish stole the show, believe it or not, with the sweetness of the beets cutting across the earthiness of the lentils which had been bathed in a marvelous tart dressing. Addictive.

Passing quietly over the disappointing caesar salad, my main course was a thick pork loin, seasoned and juicy, served alongside subtly truffled butternut squash and a mound of roasted baby Brussels sprouts. I couldn't resist ordering the famous mushroom bread pudding as an additional side for the table to share. So glad that I did, because it was such an interesting, creative, and deeply flavored side dish: crunchy, buttery, and creamy all at the same time.

Atmosphere is warm and energetic, with a diverse range of clientele. Many regulars, I suspect, because we noticed several people whipping out penlights to read the menus. The low lighting combined with the cream colored menus can make reading a challenge.

Bistro Aix is the perfect spot for an upscale lunch. I love this place. We started driving here from our office on Phillips Highway years ago for any special occasion a coworker was celebrating. After changing jobs and not being in that area for awhile, I did not go as often, but I take any opportunity I have to dine there for lunch. The tomato soup is so wonderful and I have eaten tomato soups all over the US and Caribbean. Theirs is one of the best ever! Top that with their grilled cheese sandwich and you are in heaven. The people I have dined with have tried a variety of sandwiches and everyone has rave reviews about any of their choices. The only disappointing thing is they close for lunch around 2:00 or so and serve only a limited menu until the dinner hour. I have gone late in the afternoon sometimes only to be turned away. But again, the food and atmosphere are divine! Oh, also their bread is awesome!!!

Its very good but not necessarily great.. This is another JAX restaurant who's reputation might be a little over worked.

Service is above average as is the food and ambiance. I guess I'm just confused how some people speak of this place like its Charlie Trotter's, Daniel and Spago all in one.

I would give it a 7.5 or 8.0 but not the normal "10" you hear from many restaurant goers.
Jww
Don't be fooled by the interesting decor. Food is just ok and you wallet will be much lighter after a dinner. Not impressed.

Pleasant experience. Both the atmosphere and food were excellent despite the server's lack of knowledge of some of the menu items. My wife loved the Smoked Salmon Wood-Fired Pizza. I ordered Steak Frites and enjoyed the red wine shallot sauce.

The wine and cheese selections are fantastic. Getting to Bistro AIX is a tad inconvenient due to the San Marco construction but once completed, should benefit the accessibility to the restaurant.

Always Amazing. I dine here often and the food is incredible and consistant. Were lucky to have this place in Jacksonville, keep up the good work !

WOW.. I have to say this place is awesome. We spent the weekend in jacksonville for our anniversary and went to this place after reading some good reviews. When i made the reservation i told them it was our anniversary and when we arrived we had a card on the table signed by the whole staff!! The card was also good for 15% off our next visit. We then received two selections of cheese with bread on the house. I was going to order the french onion soup but was told it was made with beef broth and we only eat seafood so so i opted for the tomato soup without much excitement but let me tell you that soup will blow your mind! for main course i had the risotto and muscle dish that was to die for and my wife had the oak fired fish and it was out of this world. So all in all i give Bistro Aix 5 stars for class and food quality. It will put a slight pinch on your pocket book so be ready for that but its worth it.
SER
Loved it!. I made reservations for our anniversary, never having been there, and it was awesome. It is noisy because they are very busy with limited space, but I don't think that makes it a bad place, it justed added to the very urban vibe. They had great food and service. The servers are very polite, though they were obviously slammed (very busy), they didn't let the stress overwhelm them. We will go back!

Always the best. I have never been disappointed by Chef Tom. The food is always fresh and meals are so delicious. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but you won't regret it.

Excellent food and service. A family favourite ! Good French cuisine, excellent service!!!

Incosistency is Inexcusable. The inconsistent service is simply inexcusable. Train your staff to be attentive. The foot here is above average and certainly better than most you find in Jax, but dining out is more than just the food. Service is just as important for a quality experience.

I rarely go here for dinner and would not take guests for fear that the server we receive would be sub-par and ruin the experience.
SulVento
Great as usual. Just celebrated a family birthday there the other evening and as usual, the food was excellent.

Our guests ranged from 10 years old to 70 and _everyone_ loved it.

Have been going there for years and will continue to do so...

I met a friend for lunch at Aix last week. Good experience. I ordered from the pizza menu and loved it. However, it wasn't quite as spice-filled as the waiter represented. Still good though. Good dining experience.

Disappointed. Just moved to Jax and had heard from friends that this place was "great". It's a "French" bistro, right? So I ordered the Steak Frites, which should be the one thing they do well, if anything. The dish was very disappointing, seemingly prepared by a chef who's never been to a decent American bistro-style restaurant, much less one who has eaten in France. The meat was cut very strangely and was tough and tasteless. While the hostess was pleasant, the waiter was either self-absorbed or having a bad day. Way too noisy, as well. Other than that, everything was great!
Mr2U
Over Rated. I remember when this place first opened up. Thats when it was at its best. Now years later. Just about everything has changed. The food is so, so. Bland in taste. My last visit was not enjoyable. Every one from the hostess to paying for the bill as bad. They have the attitude that your doing them a favor by visiting their restaurant.

My fav spot!!. Been eating here for little over a year. My girlfriend & I eat here about monthly. We love it. I am a culinary student so sometimes I am picky about eating at certain places. But Bistro is all time favorite. They never let me down.

All I can say is that it's one of the best meals I've ever had in Jacksonville. D E L I C I O U S !!!! Make reservations on the weekend!

Great atmosphere and food.... Bistro Aix has such a great menu and the atmosphere does not dissapoint... it is like taking a mini evening trip to NY... personal favs - steak fritas and their pizzas are delish! I like that it is a nice restaurant with price points for most anyone- with pizzas starting around $12 you can enjoy all of the ambiance of an up-scale restaurant on a dime! Defintely a place to try and it will probably end up on your fav list too!
