Review The Old Siam - Jacksonville

Aveline B.
My friend and I had lunch here last week, and it was delicious. All the food came out hot and full of flavors. The food was also put in cute little presentable plates that made the experience that much more pleasant. The only reason I did not give it a 5-star is because, on the outside, the building looks questionable. This is one of those hole-in-the-wall places that on the outside you would easily pass but once inside the atmosphere is friendly and clean. It just needs some updates and maybe fresh paint, and the whole place would look as good as new. This place is worth a try if you're an adventurous type and enjoy good Thai/Asian food.

Hidden Gem ! Before you hit up a chain restaurant on Western Blvd, Eat here ! My husband and I use to go to this restaurant in 2010 years ago and the 2 times our family has been stationed here. We are back this week due to training and so happy to be able to eat here again. Food is amazing and full of flavor. The service is personal, our waitress was the sweetest lady. I am over chain restaurants and flavorless food. I highly recommend chicken pad Thai, Thai tea and Chicken Satay!

Arrived on a late afternoon one Saturday. I have never eaten here and decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed. The steamed fish was perfection while the vegetable soup was hearty with taste. The service was excellent. Be prepared to read through the menu as it is quite extensive. I loved the decor and summary about the chef. This was a wonderful dining experience to end my day.

This place was absolutely amazing!!! From the atmosphere to the service to the food! My only issue is the price. Asian food shouldn’t be that expensive. If price is not your concern, bon appetite!!!

First of all, I had a yummy meal and fantastic service. Thai cuisine is my favorite food and I’ve dined in Thailand many times. The dining room is a little dated…. Kinda crusty feel. Killed two bugs before we ordered. Couldn’t find drinks in the menu but I usually prefer water anyway. We ordered 2 different soups and they were really great although I felt missing a little tang I’m used to from Thai soups. The Penang curry was a decent portion although lacking in Thai flavors (lime leaf, lemongrass, Thai basil). It tasted good but not authentic. The squid salad was a mistake to order, iceberg lettuce with chewy squid. The prices were a bit high for only ordering 1 entree, a side and 2 small soups (~$50). This is a popular restaurant lots of people seem to love but if you’re craving really authentic Thai flavors I’m not certain they can be found here.

So I've been sleeping on this restaurant for almost two years, my mistake. Absolutely loved the Mai Tai chef special with an extra side of rice! I will be back, I can easily see this as a new favorite stop for me and my family.

Finally non-chain dining in Jacksonville!! Want a break from the over processed food scene here? We found this very tasty and authentic owner operated Thai food restaurant. Lots of traditional and popular dishes, no msg, with fresh ingredients & mouth-watering flavors. Don’t miss this place.

My family and I have been here many times. Our favorite dishes are the basil duck, pad Thai and fried rice. The food is very delicious. Please be patient when you go there as the food is cooked to order. It may take longer than you may be use to but it is well worth the wait.

One of the best restaurants in the greater-Jacksonville area! I’m so thankful Old Siam has survived the past few years! The best Thai food I’ve had anywhere, including Southeast Asia! Cannot wait to eat here again soon!

Pay attention to the "Call/Order Button" on the table!! Wait staff is very attentive. Always great food presentation. Some of the food was good but missing flavor. We had the Seafood Fried Rice which was spot on. The "Blanked" shrimp appetizer and fish cakes were ok the dipping sauces were very good. Beef Pepper Steak was missing flavor. Panang Curry was overly sweet. Jasmine rice was perfect. I tried these new dishes but will go back to my old stand by. I prefer ordering the Chicken Satay, the Spring rolls and the Green Curry.

I ordered the spring rolls, chicken satay, and spicy basil fried rice. You can make the rice spicy to your liking. I got mine medium to hot and it is perfect!!! Everything is very delicious. Very fresh tasting and a good size portion. Not sure what the clear sauce is that came with the chicken satay, but it is good! Definitely my new spot!!! I’ll be back!!!

Friendly service, great atmosphere and decoration. Was surprised at the good quantity of menu items and the food was good as well, although nothing special. I ordered the chicken Pad Thai and it was alright. They have customizable spicy options which is always a plus. Overall, enjoyed my experience, even just while waiting for takeout. Would recommend.

We always have a delicious experience here, and the service is fast and friendly! If you haven’t tried the DRUNKEN NOODLES, you are missing out! Also, the TOM KHA GAI soup is perfect! We have been coming to this restaurant for years and have always had a wonderful dining experience every time!

The food was surprisingly very good and tasted authentic. Good service and great presentation of the food. They make it very spicy if you would like and this place is economical too.

My wife and I have been coming to this restaurant since 2005 when it was called Thai House Restaurant. Always loved it then and I still love it. Seems like more take out now but you can still eat in house which I prefer

Authentic, delicious, reasonably priced food with great service! Immediately seated and food did not take long to arrive to the table for a Saturday night. We had the fried tofu and Tom Ka coconut soups for appetizers- so fresh and the flavors were on point!! My husband had the basil duck and he said it was cooked perfectly- I had the pad see ew and it was delicious!!!! So soooo good! We with definitely be back. The interior did not look “run down” as stated in other posts, it was carpeted so maybe that’s why other think “run down”?? We found it very clean and the decor was Thai themed, the tables and menus were clean and it felt very open with all the windows, we felt it had a nice ambiance.

Great experience! The restaurant is beautifully decorated and very clean. Attentive staff, fast service and the food was amazing 😊 Thank you so much!

Don't let this place fool you, the food is ON POINT!!! Very cool experience and we will absolutely be returning. Atmosphere isn't all that great, but does it really matter if you're getting a VERY GENEROUS portion of good, fresh, tasty, and affordable food? Oh and we are very picky. Make sure to bring your kids, they will be BLOWN AWAY!!!

Food was excellent and priced fairly. Everything looked and tastes fresh. I had the Tom Kha seafood soup and the Volcano chicken. By default, there is no spiciness and the waiter didn't ask about heat levels. Be sure to ask for spicy if you like things with any heat.

Absolutely the best Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles I've ever had. I am a regular and it's consistent every time we go there. Fabulous to say the least. If you're looking for great food in Jacksonville this is the spot.

Less than desirable service. I've never been in a place who's job is to serve people and have such nasty and rude attitudes. Never will I ever again! At any point someone brings a party of 18 people to your place of business, that's an opportunity for you to make money and gain new customers rather than treating them like trash on the strength of getting gratuity. There was a party of 18 and other guests who coming in as well. This was a reservation that was made and the lack of staffing for tonight had to be a joke. The icing on the cake was the fact that the managers had no desire to apologize and offer anything to make the experience better. I had high hopes for this place but if you go long enough, you'll see their true colors. I will not spend my money in a place where the people who serve you have an attitude like this. These issues were strictly front of the house and nothing in the back of the house because the food as usually is amazing. I just won't spend another dime in there. At no point did they express any sort of empathy, it was more like, okay... okay..get out. Bye! The words out of the general manager's mouth after I said, I won't be back was, "Okay!". This is a warning to you all, this is not a place that you would like to have a medium sized gathering and for goodness sake definitely not a celebration. You'll find yourself doing everything but celebrate. Its sad that the Chef's awesome food can't even be complimented by great service. Those people have some questionably horrible attitudes.

Great break from Jacksonville. Awesome food & great service. Well appointed interior and a nice spot on the boulevard are a great way to get away from the typical jacksonville crowd.

Favorites:
Noodle of the drunk, spring rolls, house special and any of the curry dishes.

Enjoy and thanks to old Siam for the memories.

Incredible Thai food...especially considering its in NC. Curry is fantastic as well as the pad Thai, mango sticky rice and Thai tea. Extremely nice staff, my favorite restaurant in jax for over 2 years. Authentic Thai.

OKAY (three star). Tom Yum Goong (*****) had excellent flavor, shrimp fresh and plump, ginger and lemongrass good flavor, mushrooms are canned - not good consistency.
Kanoom Jeeb (*) Looks good but is far from it...
Ground chicken baked with carrot, cabbage, and green onion. Tastes like a bad attempt at chicken pot pie. Dumpling was soggy and falling apart. Sauce was something syrupy tasted just like Worcestershire sauce :( ... Dish was not good!! And expensive -$8!
Green Curry (***) okay. Not worth the $14... Def had better. more heat than flavor. consistency fair- not quite milky or homogenous, slightly disassociated. included: Canned and fresh mushrooms... Green beans were bad! Not sure what it was, but some residual juice or flavor inside the beans made them distasteful. Green bell pepper. Sliced bamboo, chicken, green peas neutral. Not a prize-winner and curry is my favorite dish and what I judge a Thai restaurant by.
Mango/sticky rice (*****) - hard to mess up and they didn't. Good stuff

Overall: food was just okay and a bit expensive. Service from waiter was great. Hostess was ... Okay. Restaurant had strange, off smell. I almost walked back out when I came in the door. I guess some people like the place, but I've had better Thai food for cheaper

I didn't know I'd love Thai food.. Long story short...we hosted an exchanged student last year. She was from Thailand, so I decided to try out Old Siam. She loved it! I had never eaten Thai food until last year. I love their tom yum gai soup. They served it in a bowl with a little gel fire that kept it warm. You'd just have to see it. From the outside I would have never guessed how good it was inside. Try it sometime.

Awesome place to try if you've never had Thai before. They'll even make it spicy for you if your up to it.

Very good thai food. Will likely return.

Terrible service - would not eat here again. Food is OK but meals are a bit pricey compared to other Thai restaurants I've been to.

Delicious! Best in Jacksonville!. This is my FAVOURITE restaurant in Jacksonville. I have been to a lot of Thai restaurants throughout the world (including Thailand) and in my opinion this is as close to authentic as you can get in the United States!

The Pad Thai, Panang and Massaman are my favorite dishes. The service is always good and attentive, and they always get the orders right the first time.

It's very quaint inside, with 'traditional' style Thai panelling on the walls and the waitresses wear authentic dresses.

From beginning to end- it's a lovely experience. Expect to have leftovers to take home as the portion sizes are generous!

Popular place in Jacksonville. The cut of beef for my Panang Curry was very tough. Everyone else enjoyed their Noodle of the Drunk.

Great customer service and flavourful food.

Wonderful!. They have a seperate Vegetarian menu that has pages and pages of wonderful choices! Love the atmosphere, love the waiters. Food is fabulous! My favorite is the veggie tom ka pak soup, and the veggie green curry! makes my mouth water just thinking about them!

This place is delicious, has a great wait staff, and is obe of the few authentic ethnic restaurants in the area. Love Old Siam!!!

Good food and great service!. I had the pleasure of dining at Old Siam for lunch recently. The prices are reasonable, the menu is extensive and also includes a separate vegetarian menu...an unexpected delight to my vegetarian friends. My party had several of the soups and classic Thai dishes. Next time I'm in Jacksonville I'll definitely go here again.

Excellent!. As soon I walked in I was greeted by a bow and relaxing décor. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I ordered the Goong Pad Thai and had it prepared Thai hot. The heat was not disappointing and the ingredients were fresh. This restaurant has allot to offer and I will be back.

The food is great but the service is skittles slow. I waited almost a half hour to get the check. If you have the time I would recomend it.

Head chef and owner Watcharin aka Eddie has created a piece if Thai heaven in the city of Jacksonville. An impressive selection of Thai food paired with top notch fresh ingredients gives Old Siam a leg up on Thai restaurants near and far. I personally recommend Three Buddies which is a delightfully spicy ginger infused sauce with sauteed sea scallops, sweet shrimp and juicy chicken. Another treat is Frog Legs Basil. If you've never tried frog and would like to, you will not be disappointed. Favorites like Panaeng curry and Pad Thai take on fuller depths of flavor with Eddie's expert touch. You will absolutely love the food here, gauranteed!
