Bottom line- You can try everything here for under 7 bucks!!
This place is the first of three and the original from the owner Geno Lee. You can order a sandwich for about 1.50 which i tried all three... the menu is short and straight go the pount... sandwiches, who wants one? I had the smoked bologna, smoked sausage and the smoked pig ear (local favorite) each sandwich came with coleslaw and a special mustard which blended perfectly with the smokeness. I also had a hot tamale which wasnt that hot. The taste was different but quite tasty. Get your drink but no matter what, you have to get a peach drink or sunkist peach soda. Peach drink is all they had here back in the day so its a local staple here. What i really enjoyed apart fromBaltimore the meal was the stories from Geno on the civil rights. This area is apart of history and leaders held meetings inside this very place. So im sitting and eating in this very place which was fascinating to me. This was not just a meal i was eating, this was an experience that i felt while eating; which is something far more special. Thanks to a friend of mine i was given the opportunity to enjoy and learn while experiencing this great establishment with the best service ive encountered while traveling. Some may be turned off by the outside but the food is great, the staff is great and the experience... priceless. I highly recommend... This is a must!
The hubby and I really enjoyed the smokes and especially the tamales.. My hubby tried the pig ear sandwich which he stated was awesome! The ladies’ customer service was awesome and they was very friendly!! A must stop when traveling thru from the Carolinas to our hometown of Natchez!! #Hills6
Visited 4/12/22 I had been wanting to try this place since I saw it featured on DDD, and I wasnt let down. The smoked sausage/red-hot sandwich was delicious, the tamales were even better. I wouldn't order the pig ear again, just not for me that day. Fast and friendly service. If you think you can eat 2, order 3. They're smaller than you think.
I drove around one day looking for some place to eat, something different. Found this place, went inside and the rest is history! Been coming here ever since. This store is very basic, nothing out of the ordinary but there is some homey feel to it. All the interesting stuff is actually inside that tiny kitchen, PIG EARS, smokies, bologna, sausage, etc...
I tried most items in their menu which is very few anyway, but i come to this place for one thing only, and that is the PIG EARS slidders! Yup, pig ears and Dr. Pepper! If the smoked sausage sandwich is the mayor, Pig ears slidders is the King! Soft bun, hot and tangy sauce, and gelatinous, soft, and crunchy pig ears hits your palate like soul music, delta blues, jazz, and rap rolled into one! I mean, there's nothing like it! It's a comfort food and soul food at the same time.
Well this is now off the Bucket List! Sausage sandwich pretty good.....Pig ear a bit disappointing but for $1.69 each HOW can you go.wrong!
Never knew where Big Apple Inn was, but found it while picking something up off Northside & State Street. Three delicious smoked sausage sandwiches for under $5 bucks. Can't beat that! Miss Grill Master is camera-shy but has a beautiful smile. 😉😃
A timeless neighborhood and community staple. Southern classics such as pig ear and red rose sausage sandwiches. Delicious every time....i grew up om these
Friendly staffing & food is good, hot !
