Great service, great food, and great atmosphere, plus heavy liquor pours.
First timer at Ole Tavern and it was a fantastic experience. Friendly greeting when I first entered. Had Bonnie as server and she was spot on. Recommendation for the Philly Cheesesteak was taken and she wasn't wrong about it being one of the best tasting sandwiches. Will definitely be going back.
I work in downtown Jackson and have been eating at Ole Tavern for the better part of four years now. I have tried everything on their menu and have never been disappointed nor have I ever had to send anything back. I love their Pimento and cheese BLT, any of their soups and jumbo and their specials are always a good choice. I have never had rude service! If you go there during their busy lunch hours, their servers are busy handling their lunch crowd and don't always have time to carry on a 10 minute conversation or talk about how bad your week has been. However, no matter how busy they may get, they have always been very helpful and friendly with myself and anyone that has eaten with me.
Service was attentative, but we waited a very long time for our food (40 minutes). The food was very good though. Pretty pricey. $13 hamburgers. :-(
Friday lunch special: catfish, hush puppies, fries, Asian slaw, and small salad. Excellent. Fish done right, fries near perfect, great deal. Atmosphere is calm, laid back, comfortable. Service attentive. Beer selection respectable. Kegs fresh and lines well kept. Price affordable. Verdict:90/100 - daily specials change, fridays catfish is best of those I have tried and possibly best fish in jackson.
Enjoyed the weeknight crowd along with the burger, red beans, pimento cheese, shrimp poboy and fried portobello sticks. Laid back atmosphere. The Monday night trivia is fun.
Ole Tavern on George Street is one of the most historically rich lunch spots I believe I've ever been to in Jackson ! My husband and I went for some midday vittles on a weekday whim, and ended up finding so much more than just good food. The building that houses Ole Tavern is old. That is something you can tell by just looking at it. Did you know that this place used to be a neighborhood grocery store in the early 1900's? It was called George Street Grocery, and one of the first regular patrons of the store was a young lady by the name of Eudora Welty! That name should ring a bell…. Her home was a
Ole tavern is a great place for 21+ to gather and socialize like the old days. They have lady's night on Thursday administration is $10. It is great to see friends and potential friends here. For a busy night I think they do great getting drinks out and there service. Keeping the bathrooms stocked with toilet paper and paper towels needs improvement. They keep the stage and dance area upstairs clean. The Dj is good and takes requests. Great club environment upstairs and calmer social environment down stairs.
Great casual, relaxed atmosphere to grab a burger & you must try their home fries! I also recommend the chicken salad or philly cheese steak on their huge croissants. So good! I greatly enjoyed the outdoor seating area too.
I’ve ate at this restaurant many times for lunch and have never had a bad experience. The food always comes out hot and fast and has fantastic flavor. It has daily lunch specials plus a full menu to appease a diverse palate. The bar is fully stocked and the staff are very helpful and courteous. I’ve never been here after work hours but if it’s anything like it is at lunch time, you won’t be disappointed.
Great place for lunch ! We sat at the bar and within 60 seconds we had a drink and a menu. We both ordered the lunch special of the day, which was the Chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and Green beans. Also came with a side salad which was pretty darn good. The food arrived hot and fresh in about 5 minutes and was delicious. Service was excellent, very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back.
Had dinner here, love the atmosphere. A little dark, nice brick walls, good bar setup. I thought the drinks were reasonably priced and the food very good! I had fried catfish and my wife had the Monte Cristo sandwich, which she said was one of the best she ever had. We sat at a table and the bartender waited on us so it was a little slow but not bad enough to complain about. In fact considering how many people were sitting at the bar, he did a great job! People were friendly and I thought they had a very lively regular crowd. Had fun!
This is a really cool little tavern. I had been walking around downtown Jackson, exploring the city, on a hot July afternoon. As I was leaving the Greenwood Cemetery after paying my respects to General Barksdale, the moist heat of the Mississippi afternoon became too much to bear and I was overcome with thirst. Yonder beckoned the Ole Tavern, a lighthouse of refreshment in a hot humid world. I staggered through the door, parched and ornery, and was immediately assaulted by the wonderful scents of old polished mahogany, faint wafts of cigar smoke, beer, fine scotch, and leather. Brittany, the gorgeous, happy bartender succored me, bringing me back from the brink of heat exhaustion with mugs ice cold Dixie beer from her tap. Refreshed, I worked my way through plates of fried okra, green tomatoes, and ice cold libations. The law of diminishing utility finally caught up with me, I settled my tab, and wandered back out into the blast furnace of downtown Jackson, fortified for my continuing explorations. This is a definite stop if one ever finds oneself in need of shelter from the brutal humid heat. Stop by and say hello to Brittany.
Chad is a great bartender. Old classy haunted bar across from the Mississippi State Capitol and Supreme Court Building. Excellent time and views. 2 story bar and dance floor.
