Review Walker's Drive In - Jackson

William Lankford
One of the nicer restaurants in downtown Jackson. They have indoor and outdoor seating and it's actually comprised of two separate buildings. The inside is very nice and the food is really good. Mostly seafood items but I had the steak and it was very good. A large wine selection is also available. Prepare to spend $40 to $50 a person but the food was worth it.

This restaurant was clean and the staff was so friendly. Our waiter was helpful and polite . I would definitely recommend this place and plan to go back. I have passed by this place for years and never went in. Glad I did. We only got dessert but I will be going back to dine with then for lunch or dinner. The outside was so pleasant and we really enjoyed our time there. Great customer service.
Zack Gonick
A very unique and lively ambiance paired with fantastic food. My filet was quite tasty and I already want more of the cheesy mashed potatoes.

As advised by a local, this is one of the best restaurants of Jackson. And indeed, star quality, high class. If you fancy a high class meal, go here. Reservation advised, we saw several people been turned away because they didn't book in advance and the waiting time would be an hour and a half...

Absolutely the best meal and service I’ve had in recent memory. Everything was just perfect. Can’t wait to come back on my next visit.

WOW!!! I heard this place was awesome and it was. The Food, wine, atmosphere and Mary, our server was over the top!! I got the filet and she got the redfish. Great choices. It made my girlfriend's birthday so special. P.S. make sure you get the fried portobello mushrooms for your appetizer
John Fratto
Excellent! I had the 8 ounce steak. Wonderful. My wife had the redfish and it was great. Service was pleasant and punctual. We'll dine there again on our way through.
William Powers
We ate in the dining room. The food and service was absolutely fantastic. The staff were the BEST! I feel fortunate to have eaten there. It is difficult to get a reservation.
David Christian Pack
Oh my goodness where do I begin? My local friend made reservations in advance - otherwise we would have had to wait a long time because the place was sold out! Incredible menu choices as well as daily specials - too much to choose from. Service was fantastic and wow the swordfish and scallops extremely tasty! I felt like I was eating on top of a job 300 story building with the ultimate wood grilled menu! I will go back every time I visit Jackson!
Ashley Fondren Morales
THE BEST shrimp and grits that I have ever had!!!! The dining area is small and crowded, so it is a bit loud for a “romantic” dinner. But, the food is worth the sacrifice of ambience. It is a little pricy, but so worth it!!!! Definitely coming back when I am in town!

Lunch specials are good then at night it gets even better. Get the duck if they have it. Small, intimate, quirky.... typical Mississippi gem

When I heard that we would be eating at Walker’s Drive-In in Jackson, MS, my first thought was “I’ve already had a burger this week”. Don’t let the name fool you. Walker’s Drive-In is an upscale establishment and my meal was first class. A former drive-in (thus, the name), Walker’s is located in Fondren, the arts district neighborhood of Jackson, MS.

Consistently excellent food and service! The scallops were wonderful. Try the crab cake appetizer; big lumps of crab with a wonderful butter sauce.

Best restaurant in jackson. Only reason not a 5 is bc I can't come to giving a restaurant a 5. Emerson is one of the best cooks in the state. Could one day become a 5.

Never judge a book by its cover. They were referring to this place. Onsite you'd say "ok jeans and gym shoes". No! It's a really place for a date night, business meeting, intimate birthday dinner. The Mr. had the WoodGrilled Bone in special which he enjoyed and I had the Redfish Anna.

It's a small quant spot a bit pricy. BUT!! My dad always says " you get what you pay for"

Went to Walker's yesterday & got the blue plate special. I wasn't very impressed at all. The food was very bland. I had a piece of hair in my macaroni So I had to send my plate back. The zucchini & squash that my mom ordered was really good though. The only thing I enjoyed was the sweet tea. The mac & cheese was ok. Maybe I'll give them another chance & try something else in the future.

Y'all, this is hands down the best place to eat in MS. My husband was born and raised in MD, where they are born knowing how to make crabcakes, but he said Walker's crabcake was the best he'd ever had in his life. The filet is unreal. None of us talked about anything while we were eating other than how amazing it was the first time we got it. The service is always great, the wine pours are always generous. There's just so many reasons to go back.

First visit, and we loved it. Potabella fries were really good, and different. I had the Miso sea bass and my wife had the redfish Anna. Can't go wrong with either. My only complaint is, portion size was kind of small for the price. It was still really good though

My fiancee and I dined here last Saturday to celebrate our engagement, and our experience was well worth it. The service was friendly and prompt; no empty dish remained on the table for more than a minute. My fiancee had the veal and lobster Kathy, while I had the Hereford filet. My filet was cooked to a perfect medium rare and each bite melted in my mouth. Best steak I've ever had. The only downside is I can't afford to eat here more often. Though pricey, Walker's is great for a special night out.

Went for our 23rd anniversary last night. Took about 10 minutes before our waiter came to our table...ok, stuff happens. Ordered the foie gras special appetizer and each ordered a glass of wine. The app was at our table in 2 minutes, before our drinks had even arrived. The foie gras was excellent, but the waffle was way too thick and overwhelmed the delicate foie gras. We then ordered dinner and a bottle of Forgotten Barrel Zin Blend (excellent!!). Our half wedge salads were out in about 5 minutes and we asked if our entrees weren't fired yet, could we slow it down a bit. The waiter was fantastic and took care of that. I ordered the bone-in filet and husband ordered the bone-in ribeye. Again, the waiter was great in telling us that the sides we were thinking about ordering (fried onions, potatoes) were both already on our dishes-appreciated! My filet did not come bone-in and am very happy that husband pointed that out to the waiter as his bone-in ribeye racked up at $60 (the boneless filet was in the $30 range). He described his ribeye as a bit chewy, my filet was fine. I would say all in all, not the usual perfect dining experience we are used to from Walker's, although, again, kudos to our waiter, he was excellent.

today I had the worst meal in ages , I spent 41 dollars at lunch for lousy service and food with NO flavor . I tipped my waitress 10 usd's even when she didn't offer to refill m tea. Caesar salad has never seen Caesar , food is NOT good and never consistent ! Thanks for nothing .Rating is a ZERO!

A great artsy restaurant.

We went here for the first time tonight and it was definitely the best meal we've had in a long time. Possibly the best in the Jackson area. My fiancé and I split the flounder and there is no other word except "divine." Substituted the spinach for a side of the pepper jack grits - excellent with the flounder. Asparagus was on point. We tried the fried strawberry pie for dessert - this was good but not great. Our waiter was awesome. We had an over the top experience at Walker's!

Fabulous. I have eaten at expensive good quality resteraunts all over the United States. Walker's Drive Inn is buy far one of my favorite. The food is exceptionally wonderful.
K Whitaker

Went for lunch. Service was fast and efficient. I had the barbecue oyster Poboy. The oysters on this were the best I have ever tasted, and I have tasted a lot. Crispy outside while tender and buttery inside. Words fail me just go try it yourself.

I wish I had taken a picture. Normally, I'm all over food pics but at the end of the meal I realized, I didn't take a single one. I think its a sign that the food was so good, the atmosphere so nice, that I actually lost myself in the meal! I had the scallops which comes with risotto and cucumber tomato salad. The combination of what I think was a pickled cucumber and tomato salad with the heavy risotto was perfection. I also tried bits of my dinner mates' meals so I can say the steak was phenomenal and it looked way bigger than the 8oz the menu stated. Also, the veal and lobster kathy was delicious. I'm not a huge lobster fan (crazy right) so I wouldn't have ordered it for myself but it was good nonetheless. Also, we tried the bruschetta which had some kind of, what we all joked about, hybrid goat cheese that had the best texture to it I've ever had in a bruschetta. Overall, it was a great first experience at Walker's and we will go back. Just be mindful, the outside is deceiving as far as prices go :)

Outstanding. Walker’s has drive-in décor but not drive-in food. It’s one of the best and most expensive restaurants in Jackson. Because dining space is very limited, they have unfortunately crammed too many tables and chairs into a very small space. You feel elbow-to-elbow with other diners. So it doesn’t have the private, romantic feel a restaurant of this caliber deserves. They have a large seafood menu which during my visit included shrimp, scallops, redfish, grouper, flounder, tuna, seabass, mussels, calamari, plus some fish special with a name I’ve never heard of.

For starters we had their special appetizer of grilled peaches and feta on toasts (my description doesn’t do it justice). It was nice but on another trip I would order something else. For salads we had half the House as well as the corn & apple. Either is a good size for a side salad.

For the main course we had the seabass and flounder. The seabass was a small portion atop a bed of rice. The seabass just melted in your mouth unlike any other fish. The only problem was it was gone all too soon. The flounder was outstanding – a large portion covered in crab, artichoke and parmesan cheese sat atop a bed of spinach. The dish was slightly salty, probably from the cheese. It had a rich, delicious sauce that you just had to devour with bread, spoon, or anything at your disposal.

The server talked us out of getting an additional side as they offer “full plates”. While dishes aren’t ala carte, upon return I would order an optional side to make a more filling meal.

Dinner was Delicious. We have dined once for dinner and twice for lunch. Dinner was out of this world, though perhaps a tad overpriced. Definitely good for special occasions. Lunch was okay but nothing to write home about. So far, Walker's has been been our favorite nice restaurant in Jackson.

As anticipated. Service was great, food was fantastic. thanks!

Ahh the shrimp poboy at walkers may be the best in the city...lots of fresh shrimp with spicy sauce...I would say French fries could be better

Great restaurant!. Visiting town and wanted some local flair. We were not disappointed. Excellent dinner, service and experience. Tamales, salads and entrees were excellent! Best to make reservations, but we had a wonderful evening just sitting at the counter of the fifties diner! Unique and memorable dinner.

Great Food

Over priced special. The 10oz bone in filet was under cooked and over priced! $50 for a special is too much for so little food!! If a special is going to be $18 more than the steaks on the menu, customers should be informed prior to ordering.

Not happy at all. Great atmosphere, but service is horrible. I have been here for 1 hour waiting for a table. 30 minutes for our order to be taken, only to find out they are out of their blue plate special. It is 1:00? Hope the food is worth it.

Perfect Meal. Wow! What a great surprise. I was skeptical once I drove up and saw the outside of the building, but inside it had a great feel to it, White table cloths, quaint cozy feel. The food was great and the timing/pace was perfect. I sat at the bar. I had a nice chardonnay that was recommended by the waiter. My meal included the following: fried oyster appetizer, ham and egg appetizer, watermelon salad, and cobia on grits with a corn salsa. Highly recommended!!

A disappointment. Just like another reviewer said- I have a love hate relationship with Walker's. I notified the waitress about my shellfish allergy. I ordered the Wagyu hangar steak - they initially brought the dinner plate with one side items topped with a fried item- a big no - due to my shellfish allergies. ( They only have one fryer so they cook everything including shrimp in it) - the dining experience was overly salty - including the side items. The risotto was very lumpy , flavorless, and cold. The asparagus was also too salty. The waitress did not even offer to fill my water glass. For dessert we decided to have a chick fila shake. I can't even stressed the word SALTY. Woke up today with parch lips and mouth. ---- just awful.

Jackson's Best. Some restaurants deserve to be the talk of the town. This one is it when it comes to Jackson, MS. Unique, southern, exceptional-quality food and reasonable prices. This restaurant is quaint and has two very different atmospheres depending on whether its lunch service or dinner service. Go casual for lunch and dive into the daily Blue Plate lunch. At night, dress up and get ready for fine dining. If anyone asks me what the best restaurant in Jackson is, I always say Walker's Drive-In!
Harvey Edelstein
Go to Walkers for great fried chicken and home style sides. If you love Southern Cooking Walkers hits the spot every time.
Caroline
Depends on what you order. I have a love hate relationship with Walker's. I have been many times and sometimes it is great and other times I should have gone to Babalu or Nicks. I honestly think it just depends on what you order. If it sounds like they could have cooked the meal before hand (the chicken salad,) don't order it. Also, make sure to ask how it is prepared; because I don't think the descriptions are totally accurate for most entrees minus the sandwiches.
Madison
Amazing meal!. The best dinner I have had in years. Service was great, food was great and presentation was great. Thinking back, this was probably where I had the last great meal before this one.

4 out of 4. Our party of 4 loved this place and ranked it the highest of the lunches we had in Jackson. From Fish to Fried Chicken to Salad. All good.
KELVIS
Jackson, Miss. Had the blue special plate for lunch (it changes daily) ....very good fryed chicken with good mac and cheese( not too much chedder or grease ..creamy) very good and butter beans (lima) with a little pork. good corn bread and a house salid with very nice house dressing .Alot of food for 9 bucks. Staff was not overly friendly, but attentive. I noticed other reviews said food was too salty, I thought it could have used a bit more, you can always add your own..... Would like to come back for dinner and try more dishes, the fryed green tomato club on the lunch menu looked yummy as did the burgers. Hey, stop by this place for sure if you are in Jackson, MS you will be pleased.

Filet is Magical. I went here about a year ago for a xmas party and had the filet, bay scallops, and whatever sides came on the plate (i cant remember). First, the filet was HUGE and perfectly cooked-best filet I have ever had. I am not usually a fan of scallops bc they tend to be overcooked but the bay scallops were PERFECT. Everything we had that night was delicious, and they had some great wines. The tab was picked up bc of the xmas party so I really have no idea how expensive this place really is. Highly recommend.

WOW WOW WOW. Portobello Mushroom fry appetizer = amazing

Veal and Lobster Kathy entree = unbelievably great

The tuna entree = different flavor, but still good

Love the atmosphere...

Rude staff. Called down to this establishment to inquire how late they stayed open tonight. 9:30 they say. So, I get in my car in a torrent of rain and walk in and they are having a PRIVATE party. Why oh why didn't that person state they were closed tonight? How rude. I ate at another place across the street a bit and their food was fantastic. Glad I didn't get to eat at this place.

If I had to declare one restaurant as the best in Jackson. I would say Walker's. the food is awesome.
Sneaky Snake
It's a crap shoot. Sometimes we go and it's superb and other times it's just ok which can be very discouraging as the prices aren't "ok" , they are expensive and we don't mind shelling out the denaro for a good meal but it stinks when you leave thinking you could have cooked at home and eaten better. That being said, go if you've never been but be aware you may leave thrilled to death or disappointed. Maybe ask the trusty old 8 ball before you head over. Its tiny and crowded just in case you at claustrophobic.
Amo_risus
One of the best restaurants, I've had the privilege of eating in. Pleasebringback the arugula salad with apples, sweet onions and toasted polenta croutons!
Hailangel
Amazing crab cakes!. Had dinner outside on the patio. Service was not amazing- but not terrible. The crab cakes were amazing!! By far the best crab cake ever. No filler, just lump crabmeat. We also had a great bottle of Banknote wine. We had a filet entree and the scallops. Both dishes were delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice date-night or with a small group of people, say 4 to 6 people.

Last meal good. I've said for quite sometime that Walker's would be my choice if I only got to eat one more meal in Jackson. Scallops, tamales, redfish all great but I have a tough time staying away from the stuffed flounder - deliciously rich (and big enough to share)!
Peter Casano
We love Walker's. It's the best place to eat in Jackson IMO. Don't let them sit you in the upstairs bar. This will be the third time that my experience has been almost ruined by the extreme smell of Lysol or similar cleaner. Three times over more than a year and I mentioned it the first two times and the waiters said they knew about it, everyone complains. Well why not do something about it.
Geekhausen
Not a fan. I have debated even writing this review, because I don't have many good things to say. But reviews aren't all supposed to be sunshine and rainbows.....so here goes.

This was some of the worst food that I have ever had in my life. Ever. My food was so salty that I couldn't even taste anything but the salt. And greasy. And really....should risotto be greasy? No, it shouldn't. Greasy and salty....that's the only thing I remember about that dish.

My shrimp appetizer was expensive and there were THREE shrimp. Granted, they were large shrimp, but unless they were stuffed with 18 karat gold, the price of the dish was way too expensive for three shrimp. And...they're weren't even good. Remember, everything I ordered was coated with salt.

Our waiter was ridiculously snooty - and yes, I understand that this is a fine dining establishment and it may be frequented by some snooty individuals, but that attitude should not be carried over into the wait staff.

On this particular occasion, I was at a table with about 10 people - and 9 out of the 10 had a bad experience - some with the same saltiness issues I was having, others had problems getting the correct food or getting a refill on beverages. All in all, a horrible experience for all.

I briefly touched on the over-priced appetizer, but honestly, the whole menu is over priced. I say this because the food just ISN'T GOOD. I don't mind paying a pretty penny for a meal, but it has to be good and the service has to match the food quality and price. Unfortunately, this was not the case at this restaurant.

I'm not saying that I'll never go here again, but it won't be without a gift certificate or a friend that says, "Come on....I'm paying." Because I certainly won't spend my own money here again.

Our first time together at Walkers. Late reservation. Sit at the bar for 1 drink as you get to watch the chaos that is awsome. Had the everything crusted tuna and the half BLT wedge. Both were excellent. Wife had the seared scallops over shrimp and feta risotto also excellent. Adding it to our routine for sure!!!!!

Nice Place!!. I enjoyed Walkers. Enjoyed sitting outside and ejoying a nice lunch with my family.

I would walk to the moon to eat hear again. Started off with the roasted beat, goat cheese, bib lettuce salad. Really good. Then I had the Muscles of the day (chorizo, red sauce, and what I think must have been a dash of magic dust). AMAZING. Then I had the rock fish with truffle rissoto. Again, out of this world.

This was one of the best meals I have EVER had. Go there if you're ever in Mississippi.
Jane Doe
Always good. Great service, delicious food, convenient location, well priced. Love this place!
Janie
Always Good. You can't beat Walker's. It's not cheap, but it's worth every penny. (A salad and appetizer can easily serve as a full meal if that's what you want to do.)
Big Fonz
Best restaurant in the state. Easy!

Our Favorite!. Where do I begin? We love Walker's, we have always had an excellent experience at dinner and unfortunately are never in the area and able to enjoy their lunch offerings. My go-to dish is always Redfish Anna, the fish is always perfectly cooked and the sauce and crab is the perfect accompaniment. My husband usually enjoys a steak, which is also cooked perfectly and tastes wonderful. The sides are great, and on our last visit we tried the BBQ oyster appetizer for the first time, oh wow, hate we've missed that before now, it was amazing!! Walker's also catered our rehearsal dinner a few weeks ago at an off-site location and they did a fabulous job, I couldn't have asked for more. We offered the redfish anna and beef tenderloin and all of our guests were so happy. If you have guests in town or for a special night out, this should be your restaurant...Enjoy!! Oh, and don't forget the Heath Bar Tiramisu, a combination of two of my favorite things, and worth every decadent calorie!
Patrick
Best Food in Mississippi. Hands Down.

My favorite restaurant in Jackson! Food is delicious.. Always get the redfish Anna..

Jackson, You Need to Get Out More. Let me preface this review by stating that I have dined at some of the finest restaurants in New York (including The Hamptons), San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle. While I don't purport to have ultimate knowledge in haute cuisine, I do have slightly more than a rudimentary conception of what food should taste like. Jackson, this ain't it. Everything was over-salted to the extreme degree that no flavor, not of the crab cakes nor of the sea bass, could be detected. Also, fat must be the optimal word at Walker's because everything ordered was doing the backstroke in grease. Now I realize we are in the South, but because of the manner in which Walker's presents its self as a fine dining establishment, this is no way to treat the food you serve.
The wine list was unimpressive and completely lacking.
The adorable and very kind waitress aside, Walker's has a long road before becoming Jackson's culinary pinnacle that it seems many of its denizens think it has become.
SWall
Best in Jackson. Stuffed flounder is unbelievable; come hungry!
Warren
Walker's is Great. I love the lunch menus through out the week. Great atmosphere for lunch or dinner, has the laid back not too fancy feeling. It's a special treat to take the wife there for dinner. The steaks are fantastic and she loves the redfish. Didn't have our favorite wine but the second choice was very good. The service was excellent.
QB
Walkers has noticably slipped since Local 463 opened. Prior to last night, my past few meals had been very disappointing. However, I am glad to say that based on last night's meal, they are back. Bay scallop appetizer, wedge salad, and tres leches cake were all great, but the quail & fois gras entree was the star. Served over truffles grits, it may be the best entree in town right now.

It was a great resturant. We went for my birthday ,and I enjoyed the atmosphere that it provided. The menu was well laid out and had something to satisfy everyone taste.

Great food, redfish is the best in town. As great as the food is the service is even better!
Assmaster
Great Place. The Emerson's have taken Walker's to new levels of greatness since they bought it from the Gordon's several years ago. The food is the highest quality and best in town for what I call high culinary type. Make sure you have a reservation, and even if you do, you will sometimes wait an hour for the main dining room is small and the guests often linger longer than it is possible for the staff to anticipate. It is also very loud in the dining room, so if you have trouble hearing, you may not like it. They do have seating in a second building next door that is more reserved. I truely love everything I have tried, and yes, the Redfish Anna is a great staple, but I suggest branching out and allowing Derek to delight you with his abilities. I have always enjoyed the scallops and of course the portobella fries. They also have some of the best and biggest desserts around as well. Be sure and take your wallet, it isn't cheap, but damn, it's good.
Jackson Guy
Best place to eat in Jackson. My hands down favorite.
Greg 61
Best in Jackson!. Walker's food is amazing! It is consistently delicous, fresh and innovative. The chef has insight into regional cuisine that is on par with any "big city" chef around. I especially enjoy his scallops on girts. The redfish, shrimp and steak dishes are also outstanding. I don't think you can go wrong with a meal here. Also has a wonderful outdoor dining area that is beautiful this time of year. Located in the Fondren Neighborhood which is the trendiest in Jackson.
Dabney
I love Walker's! They have delicious appetizers. All of their food, especially the seafood dishes, is sooooo good!
Deltabee
Great food + service!. Once you get past the unassuming exterior you'll realize that this "drive-in" has some of the best food in Mississippi! Myself and my date both had fish and it was simply perfectly cooked w/ some of the most flavorful sauce I've ever had in my life. Service was world class too! Perfect for dates and business dinners. Bring someone from out of town here-they'll be impressed!
Dr.Lewis
LOVE IT!!. Redfish Anna is the best fish entree in Jackson! Love the atmosphere, great service!
ECM
Best in Jackson. Always my favorite place to go in Jackson. Never had a bad meal; despite the long waits, it has always been worth it. Best scallops dish I've ever had at a restaurant (this was about 2 years ago, ha). Can't wait to go back!!!
Jessie Smith
Yum!. Walker's has been a favorite of mine, and my parents long before. Try the portabello mushrooms! On a nice day or evening, eat outside, it's a cute little deck/porch area.
Meredith Mclemore
When in doubt redfish anna! Yummy! The Heath bar tiramisu is wonderful!
Mandy
Great service and nice people. This has been one of our favorite restaurants to go to lately, it is in a neat part of town and the food is always good.
Melissa DiFatta
Walker's Rocks!. This is one of the best restuarants around! Their nightime menu is wonderful and should not be missed.

We finally broke down and had Walker's for dinner. We've already been to Local 463 and Walker's for lunch (delicious!), but we were told that dinner was a different beast. Last night I asked where we should go on facebook and twitter and Walker's was suggested multiple times. It was dark and romantic (so the pictures are dark) but also pretty loud, it was packed. BTW, get reservations! We were lucky that we got there early on a Tuesday night, but I would suggest getting reservations. We started out with the shrimp fritters, and we didn't really like it. The components were good; shrimp, stuffing, and prosciutto, but they just didn't seem to work. Part of that might be the seafood snob in me thinking the shrimp was over cooked. I had the seared scallops, with a roasted corn salsa on a bed of shrimp and feta risotto. It was fabulous. The scallops were huge and cooked perfectly. The risotto was one of the best I've ever had and the corn salsa gave it a huge punch of bright, fresh flavor.
EatJXN
It was great, no more like fabulous. The portions and flavors were perfect. I felt like I got plenty, but not too much.

Once inside, you can’t help but read all of the articles on the wall. From columns on the chef to a visit from Guy Fieri with “Diners, Drive Ins, and Drives”, Walker’s has had quite a bit of publicity. They’ve had so much publicity that they didn’t have a
