Great Food and View. This is in a hotel which has been remodeled and this restaurant and bar benefits from that. Unbelievable view for dinner or drinks and great choice in food for dinner. Good drinks, good food and good view. A must if you are staying on this side of Kona.
Went for the buffet breakfast and it was fantastic. They make fresh waffles and omelettes to order. Fresh fruit and a wide variety of breads and bagels that can be toasted if you like. Most juice is included in the buffet but tomato and cranberry are an extra charge
Now for the view you are right on the bay/ocean and can enjoy the view and sound of waves crashing with breakfast......it doesn't get much better. If you go ask for Ben as he was an out of this world server. Our papaya juice was never empty, endless coffee. Ben is the da man to see for a great break, lunch or dinner
This is a must see if you're in the area. The mantra rays are awesome. The food is great. Try the breakfast buffet to start your day, you won't need lunch. The view is spectacular with the boats leaving the harbor, dolphins dancing on the water and waves crashing just below you.
I was Here for my 40 the birthday. The view is amazing! Fantastic food and hospitable staff. Would definitely suggest all who in the Kona area to visit Ray's on the bay. I stayed in the Sheraton, where the restaurant was located.
Beautiful view of the guide boats that provide blue lighting for the plankton to gather under so the Manta Rays come to eat the plankton. We had a party of 5. We had 2 appetizers, and a margarita pizza to go. We all had a drink and we split three desserts. I had the Eland burger which I highly recommend. The bill was under 400. We did not see any Manta Rays that night but a few days later took a “snorkeling with the manta Rays” with Sea Quest. They were close to the hotel and were very educated about the Manta Rays. We also ate here a second time and was able to see the Manta Rays from the restaurant. They have a viewing deck so you don’t have to stand next to the people eating.
We had great service and the food was very tasty. When I asked for our reservation, specifically asked for a table best for ocean view.
Be prepared for a higher price - sunset views right in the ocean with waves crashing around you.
Stick around for the blue lights in the water - attracting Manta Rays - highlight of our trip.
Great oceanfront dining, we were on the rail with a terrific view. We saw the evening snorkeling tours looking for manta rays, and we were able to view the manta rays right from our dining table - Awesome!
Great views. Manta Rays can sometimes be seen at night since Manta Ray dive boats are there at sunset. Great food but expensive as is rest of Hawai'i. Make reservations for tables or if no reservations sit and eat at the bar.
Stunning. We made reservations right before the sunset that day. (Reservations are a must for a great table.) Time it right and take in some great pupus (hummus is to die for!), refreshing sprits and breathtaking views. We managed to see a couple of whales out in the bay in the magic of sunset. The Risotto was nicely done however creamy I think a nice splash of acid would have killed it, however the seafood flavor was fresh and fragrant without being too fishy. I ordered the chefs special; the lamb and shrimp were super tasty and succulent. Definitely the star of the dish. The garlic mashed potatoes and the kale while delicious sure, needed either spice or acid to add balance. The kale was nice and soft but the texture in the garlic mash was off, either pasty or not creamed enough. Hard to say. The Upside down Banana Cream pie was a fun twist on a classic. All in all super tasty- worth the price, but make sure to get a reservation timed around sunset for the best experience.
Amazing food, awesome location, Great service.. what else do we need from a restaurant?
This is a great place, specially for dinner as there is high possibility to see some Mantas while having dinner. The staff is incredibly friendly and patient. They respect the fact that you are there for atmosphere and the feel and wont rush you.
The seafood chowder is very good. We ordered the sashami sampler which was very good included Ahi, Hamachi, which is Amber jack and Kampachi another member of the yellow tail family. All excellent mild fish, generous portions and included wasabi and soy sauce. We also ordered the Ahi fish tacos which were good but needed more mango salsa.
Another night my wife ordered lobster roll which was good, basically a sushi roll with lobster, standard size eight pieces Excellent open air dining. Large flood lights attract the manta Ray's which swim very close into view while eating. Excellent location and reservations are recommended. The crab cakes I would never recommend or order again two the size of silver dollars and very tasteless.
