Review Clay Oven Indian Restaurant - Indianapolis

Geoff Perry
Absolutely delicious Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken. For whatever reason this place was dead on a Saturday night, but the staff was friendly, the spices were on point, and the garlic Naan (along with everything else) was perfect. Will be visiting again soon.

My wife recommended this restaurant to me after enjoying it with some friends. My first experience there was fantastic! I ordered the Gobi Manchurian, and I will absolutely order it again. They cooked it to perfection. The service was excellent, and every member of the staff we encountered was kind and hospitable. I can't wait to eat at Clay Oven again, and I hope more people have a chance to enjoy it the same way I did!

This was my first time eating at Clay Oven. The owners were so sweet and friendly. The food was AMAZING! There were 3 of us and we had a huge variety that we ordered. Appetizers included chaat, vegetable samosas and paneer with chutney. Main dishes included aloo, chili paneer, chicken 65, vegetable biryani, spinach dishes (I don't remember the names) and naan. Each dish was better than the next. They recently relocated to a different space and it's very nice. I highly recommend Clay Oven.

This was a great experience. Having never eaten Indian food and going to India in a week, we asked for recommendations. Very helpful. Great food. Great experience. We plan to go back after we return from India. Highly recommend.

used to be ny favorite but often feel as if they dont value customers at all. we ordered take out and for 6 prople w full.orders on serving of rice. burnt naan. my foid was ordered separately and packed in so i never got any rice or bread or chutney. what a waste of my $20. also they aystem was down to order online so coupon was not honored. really its the fault of the system ? why penalize loyal customers who dine frequently. well no more ! hope you guys see this bc im sad to lose a favorite dining spot a d will no longer give good recommendations to others. enjoy your 10$ coupon scam !its the last 100$ you will get from me

This place was great! Came bc of vegan options. They have about a full page of vg options too! So pumped. Got a masala and an eggplant plate. Also got two of the appetizers. Super dank. Wish I remembered names! Ask them w pictures. They're the only two vegan dumpling thing options.

Another diamond in the rough. Obviously their Naan is good but wow everything else is so good too. I really like the Tandoori Chicken Tikka. I took a friend who had never been to an official place before and she tried the Chicken Biryani. Very good. Haven't tried anything I didn't like. Plus everyone is always so so nice!!

Had an amazing lunch here! We went during the buffet but decided to order instead so we could choose our spice level but the buffet had lots of options and looked very appealing. Everything we ordered was amazing and served family style so we could easily share to try each others food. The servers/owners were very friendly and were always refilling our water asking us how it was etc. overall amazing experience. Will definitely go back!

This is a great Indian restaurant on the Southside- we had excellent service and the food was delicious. This was our second time here and we will be back again :)

Nice place for weekend buffet , helpful and friendly staff. Food is cooked fresh and tastes good , only place on Southside that has buffet options on weekends .

Very great restaurant. Great service and awesome food. The place was also spotless.

One of the tastiest Indian buffets I have eaten at. Plan to go at least once every weekend.
Thomas Kirk
The food was phenomenal. The buffet was smaller than I thought it would be, and it was a tad bit expensive at $17 a person. Overall, though, I would eat here again and would recommend it to others.

Wonderful service and food. Took my mother for her first Indian food experience and she loved it.

No buffet right now due to covid, but food was tasty.

Let me start this by saying: the food is good. I found this place on my birthday a couple of years ago. My husband knows I LOVE Indian food, and it's hard to find good Indian food. We have ordered (via phone) from here a couple of times before, and had no issues other than having to wait 10-15 minutes after we were told it would be ready. This time, I tried ordering online. I used the website that their facebook page listed (clayovenindy.com) and clicked through to order online there. The short story is, my card was immediately charged, but the order was never sent the the restaurant. They knew the issue as soon as I told them I placed the order online, and yet still insisted that I had to place a new order (and pay for it!), and then deal with Paypa on my ownl to get my previous order's money back. They took no ownership in the issue, and expected me to just hand over more money to get the food I'd already paid for! The employee I dealt with did not seem interested in figuring it out, and actually walked away and back into the kitchen, telling me to let him know what I decided to do. Ridiculous!!! The food is good, the service is abysmal. I've had a restaurant in Plainield recommended to me...It's a bit of a drive, but I'll try that before I'd ever give this place my business again. The issue with their online ordering was a known issue...I could tell from the reaction when I said I had an online order. If you know your online ordering isn't working, DISABLE THE LINK ON YOUR WEBSITE!!!! Ugh! I'm livid.

This little place sits in a strip mall on land used for the US 31 drive in theater when I was in high school. It is probably an improvement. It is a buffet that only costs $10; which is probably what got Pat’s attention. Like most buffets taking pictures is difficult. I took selected shots of the buffet line first thing.

Average taste. We had panneer hiraka or some other name by the knowledge they driven it is some of their own spices , it is not worthy to order just tomato , onion and indian cottage cheese..,didn't even had welcome papad uh not necessary but as per rating in Google made me to expect. Overall not that worthy better to go to Indian sizzling Than this

Loved the food and staff. Five different orders and appetizers and everyone raved about their choice. Met the owner and she was delightful and very helpful in advising us on what to choose according to our different tastes. We will definitely return

Best Indian Food we've had in years. The quality of the good here is top notch. The owner greets.you at the door and is always nearby to assist with refilling a drink or making a suggestion. I can't recommend the restaurant highly enough!
Avidity7
Overpriced and Terrible!. I've given this place three chances, ordering three different dishes at different times. They were all terrible and mostly consisted of watered down sauce with no real veggies or meat in the sauce. Tonight was my last straw. I ordered the Chicken Hara Masala and literally got all of 5 small cubes of chicken in the entire dish. Absolutely Ridiculous! Why am I being charged $13 for basically a dish consisting of rice and sauce? I will NEVER go back to this place again. No wonder that restaurant is empty with no customers each time I've gone.

Great naan, terrible desserts. I'd expected more items for a Sunday lunch buffet so I was a little disappointed. We sat ourselves because no one came to greet us. The food wasn't too bad. The rice was ordinary - something I could have made myself. The curries more mostly gravy with very few pieces of vegetables or meat. The disastrous desserts should be avoided at all costs. I have never tasted such stale, leathery gulab jamuns. The carrot halwa was watery and not sweet enough. The badam kheer tasted like the rice pudding you get at the school cafeteria. What was simply amazing were the fresh naans, definitely not the ready-made frozen stuff. For this alone, I would go back. I would rate this place average without the naan.

Very happy vegans!. We have been patrons at Clay Oven for about a year, and absolutely love it! The food is delicious; arguably, some of the best Indian food in the city, and certainly the best on Southside. The owners and waitstaff are courteous, accommodating and very friendly. As vegans, we were so impressed with the selection of dishes available. They even ensure that there are two or three vegan options in their Sunday buffet. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in town.

Wonderful. I ate here for the first time today with my family. The staff was incredibly friendly, you really felt welcomed, and service was prompt. Our waiter even helped my mother choose a dish to her taste since she has not had much experience with Indian food. The food was excellent, we enjoyed everything and the serving size was just right. We had eaten at another Indian restaurant on the north side of town that didn't give us enough rice to go with our curries, but here, it was the right amount. I definitely intend to go here again, and when my cousin (who loves Indian food) comes to visit I will definitely be taking him here.

Definite Yes. This place has good food, gracious service, reasonable prices, nice, slightly upscale atmosphere, and warm, welcoming staff. I don't eat out much, but go every couple months. They always remember me and treat me like an old friend. It is the kind of place I like to support- non-chain, local, friendly, healthy and delicious.

Quality food with great flavor and lots of variety. The friendly service of the owners and serving staff makes you feel like family. Highly recommend for an authentic taste of India!

The only negative of the Clay Oven is it's value, otherwise, this place rocks. What is it with Indian Food? If you go to any buffet, you're getting a bargain basement price. However, if you order any regular entree, the prices climb to ridiculous heights while the portions decrease. I got two entrees tonight with a take-out sized box of rice and two pieces of naan for $31. Ouch. Actually, I might've ordered an appetizer and they just never put it in the bag, but I don't know because I left my receipt on the counter when I left.

The food was delicious, my wife got a curry chicken and I got Chicken Jazeer. The curry chicken barely had any chicken in it, but was quite delicious. My Chicken Jazeer was better.

I would say that this food is better than Mumbai Grill, but I think that better value exists out in town and I"m going to keep looking.

Delicious Food And Excellent Service Even Though We Arrived Late. I Would Definitely Recommend them!

Pathetic service never go here. Me and my wife went for a Lunch buffet on 03/09/2013. We reached there at 2:25 pm and Lunch time is till 3:00 pm. On buffet counter few of dishes were empty thus my wife specifically asked the person on the counter (He is the person with a mustache) whether you will refill the dishes or not. Otherwise there was no point in sitting. He said you people sit and he is going to refill it. We started with some starters and other things. In the mean time we reminded him 3 times to refill the dishes. Finally at 2:55 pm my wife again said we are waiting for a particular dish to refill since beginning. That pathetic person rudely said its close to 3:00 (closing time) and you are waiting???. When I asked that you should be apologetic rather than rude then he said in a warning tone that he is hasn't shown his rude side till now.

Excellent food and very nice atmosphere. Will definitely go back.

Best Lunch Buffet. The restaurant is beautifully decorated . The staff is friendly and food is mouthwatering. I was not very sure of what I liked, but on the buffet you get try a little of everything! The food is not HOT just wonderfully spiced. Don't miss it!

They claim they deliver - they do not!!

Great Place!. Definitely a place I would recommend to go to for lunch buffet, as well as dinner! Extremely great service and always great food. My favorite is their chicken tikka masala! They can make it to your liking (if you aren't much of a spicy lover as I )! Their prices are doable and worth it for the great food:)
Jo
Very good food!!! Extremely sweet people as well. Best in Indy.

A Symphony in Every Bite!. Indian cuisine always reminds me of a symphony. Take your basic food, add both subtle and searing spices, and combined they form something greater than the sum of their parts. And The Clay Oven did not disappoint. I arrived just before opening at 11AM, and wondered if I should have the buffet, or order something traditional from the kitchen. The buffet won out, and it was a great choice.

Starting with Chicken Tikka Massala (okay, that was about as authentically Indian as bangers and mash, but still yummy!) and Vegetable Korma (mixed veggies in cream sauce with nuts and saffron), the battle of the taste buds was on. Drinks were kept full throughout, and of course the Naan was delivered to my table fresh from the oven. Next I tried the Alloo Gobhi (potatoes and cauliflower in a cream sauce with onions, tomatoes and spices). For the finale I sampled the Gulab Jamun (okay sampled is a bit of an understatement). The cheese balls braised in cinnamon sauce may not sound appetizing to the uninitiated, but it was absolutely heavenly; and epitomizes Indian Cuisine in my opinion. Subtle and complex spices, unlikely alliances of ingredients, and a thoroughly unforgettable experience.

Bravo to The Clay Oven!! I can’t wait to return again!!

Great food Wonderful Service. This is our favorite Indian restaurant, whenever we double date or have friends in and want to make a good impression we always choose this restaurant. The owner and his family are wonderful people who are very helpful and attentive and always remember us when we come back or order carry out. My husband always orders the Chicken Tikka Masala, he likes the same thing every time and I am more unpredictable and have tried many of the vegetarian options including the Veg Thali and have always been happy. Last time we went with some friends they both ordered lamb dishes and said it was wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant, there is something for everyone with wonderful service and that is hard to find these days.

Horrible..... This review is for the Dinner Menu:
We ordered a couple of dishes and roti/ naan. One of the dishes was stale...I dont know how old it was. It smelled stale and tasted stale. We had to throw it away.
The other one...for a change was not stale. But it tasted like tomato sauce. I could have purchased tomato sauce for a fraction of the $$$ that I spent at India Clay Oven.
Pretty bad experience...would never go there again.
Now I am a little skeptical of all the good reviews that inspired me to try it out.

We went for a weekend buffet. Service started out horrible and never got any better. The food was lukewarm at best and completely bland. They did serve naan table side but it was severely undercooked. It was our second trip and we went back due to all the great reviews and were sorely dissappointed again.

GREAT AUTHENTIC INDIAN CUISINE!!. If you want to try an AWESOME Indian Restaurant.go to the Clay Oven. They have a great lunch Buffet and Dinner Menu. The food is exquisite and the staff is great. I believe Kumar has his staff go that extra mile to make your dining a pleasurable one. I use my VALPAK Coupons and saved money and had a wonderful experience the times I have visited. If you haven't had the pleasure of dining there, I recommend you try it very soon!
Jeff
Stopped in and had the lunch buffet. Very good, not as bland (mild) as some other Indian retaurants that opened on the southside. Been there four times and have not been disappointed.
Indyfoodie
Service was great. Friendly and effecient. Food was great. My only complaint was Naan bread wasnt nearly as soft it shld be or as i have had at other places. It was a little burnt in some places, making it crispy. I like Naan, really warm and soft. Dont think i will get the naan again, but we will be back!
Kath1958
Incredibly delicious. Very large menu and everything is delicious. All food is spiced to your choice....mild to as hot as you like. The owners have created an atmosphere that is casual, warm, and inviting, especially if you're new to Indian food. If you're not sure, then try the lunch buffet. The price is right and the food is fresh. Let's keep these people in the neighborhood! Try The Clay Oven...you won't regret it.

Already loving Indian food, I was so excited to hear about The Clay Oven! So moving home to Indianapolis meant I would have to give it a try. I went to the lunch buffet today and was blown away! The couple that owns the place was so nice and sweet, and I felt a real sense of community in the restaurant. They take the time to get to know their customers. The buffet was fresh and hot, and the naan that was brought to the table was also made fresh! The gulab jamun was made PERFECTLY! The buffet is made mild on purpose, so I would have liked a little more spice. But the dinner menu is made spicier so I will probably try that sometime. Overall, it was delicious and I will definitely be a regular. :)

Courteous and friendly staff, limited but tasty buffet, well priced, overall great experience.

This place is great. Have dined here at least a half dozen times in the past month and a half. Love the eggplant bartha, my wife likes the vegatable korma. Owner is (and im spelling phonetically here) Ahniel and is always very friendly along with his wife. The tandoori dishes look amazing as i have seen other people order them, but i like sticking to vegatarian dishes. Pashwari naan is delicious as well. Prices are very reasonable 10-15$. Hope this place is here for a long time.

Pleasant ambience, good service and great taste !

Authentic tasty Indian food. We love Indian food and tried The Clay Oven tonight after reading Neil Charles's review in Nuvo. The food was excellent, the Lamb Bhindi Gosht was exceptional. The Chicken and Shrimp Tikka was tasty and the Nan bread perfectly cooked. We also had Chicken Mango Walla which was a little sweet for my palate but my wife enjoyed it. Everyone was very friendly but the only disappointment was the service which was erratic. We never received our papads and the nan arrived as we were finishing the entree. We also asked for extra rice which never materialized and our tandoori entree arrived some time after the others. In fairness they had a party for one of their children happening off stage and were obviously distracted. We will try again later in the year.
Anne
Sooo gooood!!!!. This food is comfort food and you can tell they use only fresh ingredients. They have a lunch buffet , so if you have never had Indian cuisine or you had Indian cuisine that was not up to their standards you can take a little of each and decide which dish is your favorite.
Ben
Absolutely great food.. I came to Clay Oven for lunch this past Wednesday when I was in town to visit friends. It was some of the best Indian food I've ever had. I get a lot of good Indian food where I live in NYC, and this place is up there with them.
Emily Edwards
Best Restaurant!. Clay Oven is the only restaurant my boyfriend and I frequent. We stop in about 3-4 times a week and it never gets old! The food is amazing and the staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. I cannot rave enough about Clay Oven. This restaurant is always our first choice!
Adriene
Wonderful. Great food and great service. The Palak Paneer is my favorite!! The owners are very involved and make sure that you meal is perfect. If you are an Indian food fan it is worth a try.

Take it from a regular customer this place is great! Best service with the best Indian food. You'll want to try this place.

Super yummy. My wife and I went to the clay oven last night for the first time and it was great, my wife had the lamb tikka masala lamb was tender sauce was very tasty. I had the lamb pasada I have never had this dish before but again the lamb was cooked perfectly and it was a wonderful almond cream suace, I brought home the leftovers and my 5 and 7 year olds ate almost all of it for lunch today. We will definately be back.

Wonderful Indian Food. I recently felt led to change my diet and eat more natural foods and was so HAPPY to find such a wonderful Indian restaurant where I can eat without concern. My husband and I both ordered the Tandoori Mixed Grill and it was fabulous! Everything was perfectly cooked, chicken moist and crispy outside. The seasoning was full of depth of amazing flavors. I've had a LOT of Indian food and this was by far the best I've ever experienced. The staff is so very kind and attentive. I pray that this business succeeds and stays in Indy/Greenwood for a long time!
P.S. Make SURE to try the Garlic Naan...how they get it crispy and tender at the same time is a mystery to me!

Best on Southside Indy. Lets get to the conclusion: VERY GOOD INDIAN FOOD. I've been to thh Clay Oven at least 5 time for lunch in the past few months, usually on Saturdays. The food is consistently fresh and well prepared. The owner is clearly passionate about good customer service as he rushes to make sure everybody's glass is full and needs are met. I'm a huge fan of tikka misala and the Clay Oven's version ranks in my top 3. Many other dishes prevail on the lunch bar so you get the opportunity to sample a vatriety of Indian Dishes which I appreciate very much. I had never seen Jelibee (a dessert) in any other Indian restaurant. Did I mention affordable? Well it is. So, back to the conclusion. VERY GOOD INDIAN FOOD. If your in the Southport/Greenwood area I highly recommend you stop to check this out for lunch (or dinner) some time soon.
Bob
Bad. First of all they charged the same prize for kids and adults. My son is 6 and all he had was one quarter of a naan (bread) and they charged full prize. The rice was real dry and i dont know where other people who wrote reviews went for indian food but this place is worst place for indian food.
Daniel Beegan
Wonderful Food. I admit, I am a big fan of Indian and Pakistani food and the Clay Oven did not disappoint me. The luncheon buffet is reasonably priced and only mildly spiced. The dinner items are pricier, but worth every penny and the chef-owner will make the dishes as mild or as hot as you, the customer want.

The Hindu couple who own the place are charming and not only cook well, but know how to make customers feel at home. I need a Clay Oven fix at least once a week.
Bruce.curtisd
EXCELLENT!!!!. Some of the BEST Indian food I have ever had. The seasoning was perfect!!! May stop in every time I am in Indy!!!

A hidden gem. My husband and I decided to dine here this evening since we both have wanted to try Indian food and the reviews have been pretty good. Plus, I love the little non-chain type places. When we first walked in we noticed what I believe to be one of the owners rushing from table to table helping customers. He sat us right away and it was a while till he came back. I think he was busier than he had anticipated, but luckily his wife came in soon after and helped him out. It was definitely worth the wait!! We ordered the Paneer Pakora, which is a homemade Indian cheese dipped in a garbanzo bean batter mix and deep fried. It was really good!!! Then we each ordered an entree and both were amazing!! I decided on the Lamb Tikka Masala, which is a clay oven roasted lamb tossed in thier zesty sauce. I ordered it medium-hot, which was the perfect amount of spice. It wasn't too hot or too cool, but I like spicey stuff. You can order mild, medium, or hot as well. This dish was full of flavor and the lamb was absolutely delicious. I was extremely pleased with my choice. My husband decided on the Lamb Hara Masala, which is pieces of lamb cooked in a curry sauce with spices, herbs, and fresh mint. It looked kind of scary for us because we have never had Indian before, but do not be deceived by the look. It was so good!! We also ordered Garlic Naan with our meal and this is a leavened bread with fresh shredded garlic and herbs and then baked in thier clay oven. This stuff was awesome and served as a great tool to scoop up our meals and rice. The owners were super sweet and very helpful! If you have any questions about anything they will help you out. We will definitely be back and the more comfortable we get with this cuisine, the more we venture into the different items that they offer.
Jen
Flavor, flavor, flavor!. I recently visited the Clay Oven for the first time. This is a great little place! The staff is very friendly and welcoming, and if you have questions, they're more than happy to talk to you about their various dishes and how they are made. The food was fantastic - every dish was perfectly seasoned and flavored. It's not close to home for me, but worth going a little out of my way. I will definitely be going back!
Suzanne
Excellent food. We are old southsiders and have been waiting for a really excellent indian restaurant and here it is!We are not familiar with a lot of the terminology, but the lovely owners wife is happy to explain. We always order different things and have never been disapointed. The best keer(a dessert) that I have ever had.I hope they will be successful-they deserve it.
Judyjudyetc
Fantastic!. Just love this place! I have been twice for the lunch buffet. Some friends of mine are always searching for a great Indian buffet, and they introduced me to this restaurant. The selections were different on both visits, but each time so tasty and hot! They have another bread, aside from naan, that is amazing!

The owner is so courteous. His pride in this establishment is best reflected in the food. This is the best Indian food I have had. The carrot pudding is incredibly wonderful.

The owner visited our table on both of my visits. He is very interested in the opinions of his customers.

This is a little gem of a place. It may be located in a strip mall, but upon entering the colors and the aroma let you know that you have wandered into a cozy, very special place.

Next time, I will go for an evening meal.
Vikram J
Awesome Food!! I like this new Indian restaurant very much. I went there recently with my friends. They made the food according to our preferences and the food tasted delicious. We ordered Tandoori Chicken Tikka and butter chicken, both the items were very tasty and flavorful. The environment was very homely, decor very simple and ambience was welcoming. The owner is also very kind. I would like to go again.

I am a foodie! Originally from Indianapolis, I lived in the big apple for 30 years before returning to my roots. The one thing I knew I would miss is the great international and ethnic delights. The Clay Oven has brought this to me right in my own back yard. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! The food and the family owners are wonderful. I can truly say this is the best Indian food I have eaten in Indiana.....and I have traveled to the North side to try some of the most popular places. Second time there and still impresses my taste buds.
Sandy
The food is delicious! It is an exquisite change from our normal boring fare, and since it is a buffet, you can sample it all.The restaurant is clean, inspiring, and the service is good too.
Steve
Super food!!!!. I have an Indian daughter-in-law who can really make good Indian food. I can't wait to take her to The Clay Oven. This food is the best Indian food in the city and I've tried them all. If you like Indian food, don't miss the chance next time you are on the Southside of Indy.
Cavalier61
Middle of the road. To call this restaurant "the best Indian restaurant in the US" (as another reviewer claims) is a huge leap of faith and imagination. At best, it is no better or worse than other Indian restaurants in Indy. The menu is identical to any other Indian restaurant and the food has been "dumbed down" to suit American palates - it is bland and the food/spices do not "jump out" at you, as they are supposed to. Staff/owner seem pleasant and courteous, but that does not make up for the lack of authenticity in the food.
Mac
Best Indian food in Indy. I found that the owner was very nice, and the food was great. I would recommend The Clay Oven to my family and friends.
Emily
Excellent!. Great food! Great service!! It's our new favorite independently owned restaurant on Indy's Southside!!
Mark McClellan
Even if you Don't like Indian Food. I highly recommend this culinary delight located on the Southside of Indy. The price is Extremely competitive and the cuisine is as authentic as they come.
Come in for the Buffet if you are in a hurry or order from the Menu. Their Clay Oven offers a Great taste to even those shy about trying something different.
I've eaten at restaurants across the nation and I can definitely put this local treat in the top 10. Well Done Clay Oven :)

Excellent. After a few bad experiences at some other restaurants, decided to come alone for lunch before bringing family and friends. Found food to be very authentic and among the best Indian food I have had including restaurants in India, Kenya and the UK. Good service and reasonable price.

Best tasting indian restaurant. I know the owner of this res. from florida. and my past experience says that the first time i ate food in his florida restaurant way back in 2001 i thought this cannot be true to my believe that i am having the best tasting chicken tandoori in america. my origin is from India & I have tasted many chicken tandoori's in my life in India as well as America since I live in los angles, ca.this guy is a great chef who brings to us the best & the original recipes of indian food which is served in 5 star hotels in india only. so guys enjoy the best food India can offer you in Anil,s restaurant (THE CLAY OVEN) of indianapolis. Great Food ! ! ! !. First time that I went to the Clay Oven was really great. The food was awesome and the restaurant is really nicely decorated. Was worried that I either wouldn't be able to eat the food there (due to diet restrictions) or that it would not taste very good BOY I WAS WRONG! ! ! ! The food is really top notch. Not too hot or too spicy really very good and for those that like it hot and spicy they can accomodate you very easily. Bottom line - We were very impressed and satisfied. WE WILL DEFINATELY BE GOING BACK AND NEXT TIME WILL BRING FRIENDS...
Greg
Greg. Stopped in this evening for the first time. Great little Indian restaurant. Nice people and really good food.
It has only been opened for a couple of months so I hope people find out about it so that it can make it. We need very good cultural dining differences on the southside. This one fits nicely.
Sid Moore
The lunch buffet is both tasty and inexpensive. I had the curry chicken and chicken tika masala...both were great. They also serve beer and wine. Ill definitely be back!
Katzmeow67

Clay Oven is great Indian food joint for South side Indy people. Fresh delicious Indian food, great ambience and friendly service makes the restaurant a perfect place for a weekend dinner. Very convenient location, close to the Southport walmart.
Philippe Steele
The restaurant was very clean. The tables spotless, plates were taken away quickly, and the buffet presentation was neat with squeaky clean sneeze barriers. When I visited the bathroom, the smell was pleasant and the fixtures were clean. I have nothing to complain about here.
Every time a new non-chain restaurant opens on the south side, you know we'll be excited! Clay Oven is located next to the big US 31 Wal-Mart strip mall but it is still small and could be easily missed if you weren't looking for it. Open for a couple of months now, we had nothing but high hopes for excellent cuisine and a new favorite Indian dining spot close to home! We had the opportunity to try Clay Oven out twice before doing this review and on both occasions service has been polite, personable, and friendly.
