Review Ichiban Japanese Restaurant And Sushi Bar - Indianapolis

Omae wa Mou Shindeiru
Great sushi restaurant. Try their special chef made sushi. We also tried the pineapple fried rice and noodles.

Great sushi and traditional dishes. Service was great and the prices not bad at all for the quality. Pink Dragon and some yakitori with sake is the way to go!

After door dash screwed up my order. I went to the restaurant and they fixed it without hesitation. I appreciate their candidness and ability to act to resolve the order mix up. The food is great, the environment inside the restaurant is very relaxed, and calm. Definitely will be back many times over. Thank you guys again for all your help. You rock!

Ichiban is my favorite place to get sushi in Indianapolis. The restaraunt is clean, wait staff is attentive, there is never a wait, and all food is on point. Prices are fair and their specialty rolls are amazing. Highly recommend!

Excellent lunch specials. 2 standard rolls, miso soup and small house salad for $13 and 3 rolls etc. for $18! We purchased several rolls off of the menu, all of which were delicious. We also ordered chicken fried rice for the kids to share, and they loved it. The flavors were on point and all the sushi was fresh and tasty. We spent about $100 on: -2 roll lunch special (w/ soup and salad) -3 roll lunch special (w/ soup and salad) -chicken fried rice -2 specialty rolls -1 PACKED tuna handroll (i mean it was mostly tuna!) -green tea It was a ton of food for 2 adults and 2 kids. Could have fed 4 adults. The outside is deceiving because the inside was well laid out and decorated nicely. The service was great! They weren't busy at the time, but they were nice and food was done promptly. We will be back!

We go once a week and love this place for sushi and for the General Tso’s and the soup and salad. So fresh and top quality. The staff is the hardest working people and so nice and attentive. We love seeing those smiling faces! Xo

A good place to eat sushi. I highly recommend it for you. They have an especial on Mondays, the sushi is half price. The drinks are good for the price.

This place is always good. The staff is always friendly and very accommodating. Sushi is delicious with lots of varieties.

This was by far the freshest tasting sushi I have had since moving from California to Indy. The staff is very nice, clean restaurant, and you never have to ask for a refill on your drink. Mandy was my waitress and was extremely helpful with my order choices, based on what I was wanting to eat. I had the shrimp tempura and I changed out the onion and broccoli for zucchini and sweet potato. You get three pieces of shrimp. Instead of doing a sashimi dinner which comes with soup and salad they have a sashimi appetizer. Three different kinds of fish, and three pieces of each of those fish. I had tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. Next was the spicy crab hand roll. Oh my gosh the best. They fry the crab and it's just delicious and crunchy. Last, was the spicy tuna hand roll. Good but not my favorite and wouldn't get it again. Just not to my taste buds liking when there is so many other choices. I will definitely go back, and have Mandy as my waitress.

New Year Eve, Eve dinner. Had a Groupon for over a year, and it was extended because of the virus. Today, it was too expire. So I treated myself to dinner. I got everything I got last time except for 2 other dishes. The shrimp udon noodles, and the special roll Fire Roll. The tempura appetizer again I changed out the broccoli and onion for zucchini and sweet potato. I also did the chef choice sushmi which had the salmon, tuna, and this time red snapper. Spicy Crab hand Roll, was a amazing. I think tasted better than last time. The Fire Roll special came out on fire which was really cool. It was shrimp tempura inside with raw fish on top in a spicy mayo, and eel sauce. My other half got the Shrimp Udon noodles, he is not a big sushi fan. I tried it, the shrimp was very plump, and moist, not rubbery or chewy. The flavor of the dish was so good. He also got the California Roll, he liked it, to me its boring. If you are a sushi lover that is not the Roll you buy. Just my opinion. Lastly, I wanted sake as a treat for the year. I had not eaten sushi in over 10 months. They let me try the coconut and the black label sake. For a little more money you can get the bottle instead of a large. I asked if you can take the bottle home. YES YOU CAN TAKE IT HOME. that was an easy decision. I thought they closed at 10pm.. they closed at 9pm. I don't know the waiter name, because Annie had taken over which I didn't know. They didn't tell you the kitchen was closing if you wanted to order anything else. How I found out, was everyone was starting to leave, and I said we are done if they wanted to start cleaning up. She said they were already cleaning up and the kitchen was closed. Ok. Happy New Year! Goodbye 2020, thank goodness.

Ordered gyoza appetizer and some sushi (Toni roll and Caterpillar roll I believe) for dinner. Drinks never went empty, appetizer and sushi were both delicious. Definitely recommend!

Maybe it was just a bad night. We went to dinner tonight at Ichiban. We ordered spicy salmon rolls, spicy tuna rolls, california rolls, shrimp tempura roll, and a dream roll. We also had chicken pad thai, teriyaki beef, and general tso's chicken. The place was busy and we waited a few minutes to be seated but nothing unexpected. We were all looking forward to the food as we had heard good things. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to expectations. The spicy tuna rolls, shrimp tempura rolls, and dream roll were all pretty good though nothing special as compared to what I've had elsewhere. The spicy salmon rolls were disgusting. I'm not sure what they used that was supposed to be salmon but it didn't look like salmon and was not good. Other than the spicy salmon, the rolls were all good. The entrees were another story. The beef teriyaki was so tough and flavorless that it was unedible. The pad thai needed a half of a cup of soy sauce to have any flavor, and not spicy at all even though it was ordered extra spicy. The general tso's sauce was good, though not spicy at all, but the quality of the chicken pieces varied greatly. Some were good. Some were so bad that they were just spit out.

Service was good the entire evening.

I guess people go for the sushi. I would never go back for an entree again. Yuck.

Bad etiquette, ordered $75 worth of food . Everything was good but the katsu bowl it looked like dog food and tasted dry and gross. After one bite I said I didnt like it to the waitress and wanted to exchange for something else but she told me I had to pay for that dish. I said im not paying for something that bad. I asked for manager and she said fine but I had to pay for the salad and soup that came with it even if I got another meal. Thats not customer service for any restaurant. Sammy used to be more personal and take care of his customers but I see that lacking.
The Ferwigs
Not your average strip mall joint. Don't be fooled by its location, this is a classy place. They make beautiful sushi and delicious cooked entrees sure to please anyone in your party. The lunch specials work on the weekend and portions are very generous and expertly crafted.

Good eats. We go here about once a week. Great food, good show and good times are had here every time.

I really like the sushi, best so far since moving to Greenwood. I feel it is decently priced for a Japanese place. I go back every chance I get!

Best so far in Indy!. We ate here this last Saturday night. The sushi was the best we've had so far in Indy. Miso soup was very warm and wonderful. We will go back! Unfortunately the hostess was not very polite! The waitress we had was very courteous. I ordered a cocktail with Vodka - was very tasty also.

I always leave here satisfied. Before they remodeled several years ago we dined here and ate the Asian cuisine part of the menu as we weren't really liking sushi. Never really had the desire to go back. Over the last few years we have grown to love sushi and have visited Ichiban many many times and is now a favorite that we frequent. They have expanded and remodeled and it's more open and clean and just lovely inside. They have many options and different rolls for every kind of appetite. The crab Rangoon is delicious as are the soups. All the rolls we've tried have been delish with very fresh fish used. The service here is always prompt and friendly. The last time we went I noticed that they have made picture menus for their sushi so you can see what it looks like before you order. I thought that was a pretty good idea, especially for those that aren't experienced sushi eaters.

Very clean and pleasant service. Extremely fresh and delicious. My fiancé and I left wanting more!

SUSHI. The best sushi you will ever have. They are in their own league when it comes to FRESH. Simply amazing.

Best Value for sushi in Greenwood. This review is simple and to the point: Although there are better sushi places in Greenwood, they're too expensive. And there are cheaper sushi places in Greenwood, but they suck. Ichiban is the best bang for your buck sushi in Greenwood. It's not going to break your bank and you're not going to finish the sushi going "gross" but it's a great all around value.

And that's why I recommend it.

Sushi was fantastic, best California roll I've had!! Great place for sushi.

Reasonably priced, friendly service, food arrived promptly and was delish!

This place is a gem. Sammy is a great business owner. Sushi is amazing. Best sushi in town.

-----30 Sep, 2012-----

Amazing! Best sushi in Indy. Great flavor, awesome atmosphere.

My hubby and I dine here often and LOVE IT! Very high quality for the price. Sammy is awesome. We used to go to Naked Chopsticks in Broadripple, but quickly learned our lesson when we discovered that Ichiban is closer, yummier, and probably less than half the price!

Sushi is ok...had the same quality at journeys ...the service is mediocre ... I take the whole service thing very serious... I truly believe... With bad service.. it can ruin a MEAL...this is why chose not to like this shin dig...sorry

Tried it on weight of other reviews, was not disappointed! Sat at the bar, watched skilled chefs prepare my pieces, and enjoyed large fresh pieces.... Very good sashimi!

Not pleased. We had our 2 year old daughter with us. The reviews I had read previously were pretty good, so I was expecting a pleasant experience. This was not the case. First, they brought our food out at different times. My husband got his soup and salad, and then about 10 minutes later I received my soup. A few moments later, my "main course" came out, and about 15 minutes later, his appeared. However, there was a main course missing...our two-year-old's! At that point, we had already been sharing our food with her, so we decided not even bother mentioning it. It was too little too late. What's the point, right? By the time they would go in the kitchen and cook something, it would be too late...and it's hard for MOST toddlers to wait for their food. Not to mention that the both of us feel sick and nauseous now. We will not be returning.
Wow
Wait!!!!!!!!!!. If you like long wait's high price's and so so food this is the place!

Very small, but wonderful place. Everyone is very friendly. Service can be slower when they are busy, but the sushi is well worth it. I only go in periodically, but they always remember me! I want to go on a Monday evening for the happy hour!

YUMMY!. Been going to Ichiban for over 4 years. I love this place. The sushi is so fresh. I have tried sushi all over Indianapollis and I can honestly say Ichiban has the freshest fish. I have had good sushi at other places but not as good as here. The owner Sammy has been good to us as customers through the years. He honors coupons from coupons4indy.com and always has a smile for you when you come in. He does his best to remember you and ask a question that let's you know he remembers you. That is nice in this day and age to be recognized as a patron you frequent and to be appreciated as a customer. The hot food is good and I recommend the cucumber salad that has crab as a topping! Oh so good!!! Also, the spicy mayo is delicious! Not so fishy tasting. It has great flavor and they are generous with their portions when you ask for a side of it. Most other restuarants charge. Sammy does not. The service is friendly and every server helps out which is nice so you never feel neglected. If you want a place where every body knows your name and the food and drink are great, this is your place! Come on Mondays if you are on a budget (good for a date too!). They have 1/2 priced sushi. You will not be dissapointed. In the rare instance that you are, Sammy and his staff will do everything in their power to make it right. Oh once they forgot a fried rice in our to go order and when we came back to get it, he also gave us a $15 gift card and a sincere apology. Hope to see u there!!!

We were served the sushi before our rolls, which is nice but started to get worried our order was forgotten. The rolls while a little loose where all delightful.

CRAZY ROLL. I absolutely LOVE ichiban and although I dont visit as often as I crave it, because my boyfriend is not the avid sushi fan that I am, I AlWAYS get the Crazy Roll. I am also a big fan of the Dream Roll. Sammy the Sushi Chef is awesome!

Cozy little place in Greenwood. Before you go, be prepared to take your shoes off for seating in certain areas.. Sushi is very reasonably priced. I loved the Shrimp Tempura entree that I got. I didn't realize it was a soup until it came, and ordered a bowl of miso soup as an appetizer. Everything we had was great. Price was less than we expected. We also used a coupon from coupons4indy.com. We got $10 off our total bill using the coupon! Will definitely go back . Going to check out Monday 5-7p happy hour sometime also. They serve 1/2 price sushi!

Great place for birthday celebration. Ask for the private room which fit our party of 8 perfectly. Be prepared to take your shoes off but it was a great atmosphere!

The crazy roll is really great. I also like the fried rice.

Check this place out....even though it's in a strip mall on highway 31, the atomosphere is really nice.

SO SO for Southside. I have been to Ichiban over a dozen times, and frankly I like it. I dont LOVE it, but its alright. I consider myself to be well versed in sushi. I have had sushi in NYC, San Fransico and other places all over the country. Sushi happens also to be one of my favorite foods and so I try to make it a point to try it anywhere I visit. That being said, my standards for sushi are high and thats why I give Ichiban a B. Its good, but not the best, definately worth a try if you have never had sushi before. And, if you are an avid fan of sushi like myself, you might enjoy some of the less traditional rolls that they offer. So, ichiban is a GO!

Good quality, decent prices, excellent service

I go weekly. Good quality at decent price. Not the best sushi in the city and not the best prices, but excellent balance of the two Excellent staff. Sammy the sushi chef super friendly. You should eat here!

Monday Happy Hour, 5-7pm. Ichiban has select rolls for half-price on Mondays from 5-7pm. Service can be a tad slow because of the crowd. Get there at 5pm.
The Roving Van Gelders
I would rather hit up a quiet hole in the wall sushi place then end up at an over priced chic restaurant. Ichiban fits the bill, quiet, clean with wonderful service.

We're back in the saddle after more than a month of post-holiday quarantine! Weather and illness woes be gone! Oddly, we were in the mood for sushi. With Ozzy's lunch finickiness the school's problem today, we decided to see what has been going on at Ichiban. Being very familiar with Ichiban for the past several years, we noticed something different a few months back. Not only a much longer name, but more than twice the space! The entry alone made it clear this place had gone from neighborhood (charming) hole in the wall to new southside dining hotspot! Just beautiful! Somebody dropped a dime and kept it classy for a strip mall locale. It's about 4 times the size of the old place with a private dining room, a second bar and a lot of intimate dining space for such an open feel. The menu has changed a bit adding a few more pan-asian dishes, but we chose to ignore this and eat what we came for---the best sushi on the southside. Crazy Roll sans tail ends...forgot to photograph before diving
