Hippo Cafe

We are from NC and stopped at the Hippo Cafe for breakfast. This was the best decision so far this trip. Liz was our waitress and she was AWESOME! Super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. She helped me get both of the things I wanted - Nutella French Toast and Cheese Grits with Brisket and Bacon. That was without a doubt the best grits I’ve ever had. I don’t understand why this isn’t a staple everywhere. My fiancé had the chicken fried steak and it was perfect. Our drinks never ran out and the atmosphere is par none. I can’t say enough great things about Liz and the Hippo Cafe! Stop reading the reviews and go order!!!

EDITED:2-10-22 not everyone likes jalapeño Ranch!! Need to offer normal ranch as well. Also when out of tartar sauce please inform the customer before they order catfish. They brought me my catfish and then informed me of no tartar sauce. I can't eat fish without it. So I hurried and selected the club sandwich. That was not what I was expecting as a club sandwhich. 1st Review: We placed an order for pick up. So the fish wasn't real crunchy. But that's ok I was about 5 mins late to pick up our order. When I had the catfish while at the restaurant it was crunchy. Nice size serving. Like how they have sides to offer unlike the Texan Cafe. For Some reason if you want a good choice of sides you better come here because you won't find but maybe 3 sides at the Texan Cafe. Now my husband did not care for the meatloaf at all. It looked like it had been frozen and then his piece was cut and thrown on a grill to heat up for a bit. He loves meatloaf and wasn't impressed with what he got. But my husband enjoys the breakfast and other plates from the Hippo Cafe. One bad plate isn't going to turn us away and it doesn't deserve a bad review. They have several pies for desert. It's all around good food.

Mikey our server was prompt, attentive and polite! Food was delicious, fresh and came out quickly. I had half an order of biscuits and gravy (more than enough), sausage has a bite to it. Pan fried potatoes had a bit too much rosemary for my taste but were still delish. Hubby had Meat Lovers omelette which he thoroughly enjoyed. The musical theme throughout was really cool and I enjoyed admiring all the artwork. Soundtrack playing was a nice mix! We'll be back!

First time to eat at the Hutto Cafe and what a busy little place! I was pleasantly surprised. The breakfast menu wasn't too big but it had a variety of different options to fit anyone's taste. The waiter was attentive and the food was tasty. It could have been a little warmer, but overall very good. I might suggest adding the spice level of the dishes to your menu. I like spicy/heat, but hubby's stomach can't take too much. We had Huevos Rancheros and Migas. While using butcher paper as table coverings and adding crayons to doodle is fun, that is a lot of paper and crayons being thrown away each day... I will be back, I am sure. I want to check out the deserts!

We used to absolutely LOVE this place. For years! Now? ICK! The food is NOT good. Bacon was like burnt rubber. Sausage links were just... weird and taste gross. The breakfast gravy was like eating straight flour. What happened to you guys?? 😭 You have a different food vendor? A different cook? Both? Bring back the good food! **staff is still as friendly as ever ❤️
