Review Slow Fish - Huntington Beach

Victor Huynh
Lunch specials are nice. Favorite is the seafood ramen (not pictured below). Bento boxes are nicely displayed and food quality is great for lunch. Overall food is japanese with Korean influences. No problems with this place other than its a touch pricey, but they accomodate me for my late lunches and are pretty attentative given the small shop they have. Parking is easy as its your typical plaza. You miss this place if you drive too quickly. Havent been here for dinner yet but I imagine its pricier.

Refined Korean-Japanese sushi menu and entrees. THE best short-ribs in the world. Off the beaten path near the wetlands. Best off the menu item of beef rib soup anywhere, too.

Delicious sushi, nice atmosphere/ambiance for a date or group.

Small Sushi restaurant, probably hard for a large party. The sushi is high quality, you can taste the freshness. Great cooked options as well if raw isn't your thing. They offer black rice that adds a rich, nutty taste to sushi and rolls...definitely worth a try. Ask for the fresh wasabi as well...very flavorful! My go to sushi spot.

We’ve been eating at Slow Fish for many years. The fish is always fresh. The black snapper sushi is the best!! Sean, the sushi chef and owner, is so creative. It can get really busy weekend nights between 6 and 8 PM.

Great fish, creative small plates - try them! Bacon wrapped asparagus! Nice toppings on the sushi, well done. If they had more exotic imported fish, it would be totally top drawer. Good covid protocol too.

All in all it was a pleasant dining experience lol The sushi was slow getting to the table but the service itself was very fast and friendly, lots of hot green tea and endless ginger! We went in anticipation of trying the infamous black rice - we ordered a Caterpillar roll with black rice - a little too much eel sauce - we switched back to the white rice for the remainder of the rolls. Nothing wrong with the black rice but it did have a different texture. As I write this I'm wondering if I am becoming a sushi snob because the sushi wasn't bad but - the spider roll and the Hawaiian roll definitely left something to be desired - more crunch needed in the spider roll..... they were just OK not super great and I like super great ......the Slow Fish roll - now that was super great, yummy crispy, full of baby lobster........ I would go back again just for that! It opens at 5pm on the weekends and fills up quickly!

Love love love this place! Sean is amazing.. This is by far the best sushi place in Huntington Beach. My wife and I have been eating here for over 5 years. From the "old slow fish" (cucumber style roll) to the nigiri the fish is always fresh. We've been to numerous places in HB and around OC / LA and this is definitely our go-to when staying in HB. Sadly we moved away but this is one place we always go back and visit. If you aren't into sushi, they also have numerous options like the slow-beef tenderloin, hand-made lobster ravioli.. sooo good.

Smaller space, busy when we went on a Friday evening. If you go be prepared to wait, specially if you're a larger group (4+). The sushi/sashimi was good, usual fare with slight variation from most. One of the cut rolls was covered in pickled onion spears, and another in an unusual cream sauce. I had regular menu item sashimi sampler plate, yellow tail, salmon, albacore, and forget the last one. 3 pieces of each type on a bed of shredded daikon radish. Pretty good value at around $25. Scallop handroll was good too. Servers were young and inexperienced (had to remind them of missed order items), but personable. 3 people 2 large Kirins total bill including. Tip around $135.00 .

Amazingly fresh fish and great service. Sashimi, rolls and tempura were delicious. Mochi icecream has very tender flavor and not overpowering with sweetness. Just wish the pieces were larger 😀. Everybody was very friendly.

This place is the most fantastic place. I will start with the music selection, fantastic. The food is always great and the company is usually the same. My wife and I have been coming here sincs the owner worked here and since he left it has not defaulted. Anybody who writes a bad post has probably had a 1 off situation.

Love this place! Amazing food and great service! My boyfriend and I come here at least once a week and have become regulars. Love the black snapper with sesame oil/sea salt! And of course the salmon! :)

I went with my family to Slow Fish for the first time last Sunday. My sister had recommended the place after having been a few times before and really enjoyed it. She noted that two of the really cool/unique offerings of the restaurant were the healthier black rice and the artistic creation known as the "Fat Avo". After hearing the description, I was certainly intrigued. When we arrived at 6:30pm, the place was pretty packed. We had to put our names in and wait for a few minutes before they could accommodate our party of 5. Once seated, we began to peruse the menu. After a few minutes we decided and ordered. Fat Avo - Indeed, a culinary work of art. Avocado sliced thin around a ball of tuna sashimi in the shape of an apple, sitting atop a pool of teriyaki sauce, and topped with a maraschino cherry. A bit hard to eat with chopsticks, but a delicious blend of tastes and textures that all balance well. Impressive. California roll - A standard rendition. Nothing special, but nothing negative. Spicy tuna - A nice kick with quality tuna. Another standard roll, but with a little bit of extra enjoyment due to the product quality. Spider roll - Really well done. An excellent combination of ingredients that balance each other excellently. Eel and avocado (forgot the special name) - Another standard with warm eel, avocado, and a sweet eel sauce. Eel was tasty and tender, texture was good, and temperature was also pretty spot on. Dancing porky - Slightly spicy, and almost undercooked looking (though I don't think it was). Pork was tender but a bit fatty. Not as high quality as the sushi. Braised short rib - The term "fall off the bone" was invented here apparently, because this literally just slid right off. The meat was so tender it practically dissolved in our mouths. I wish I could say this was an exaggeration, but it wasn't. It was amazing. I don't know if this is something they do consistently, or if we just got lucky, but it was very impressive. The service was pretty good, in general. We did have to flag down a server once or twice when we needed more water or wasabi. All of the sushi was delivered in a couple of waves up front, then all of the hot food followed. This worked alright, but the sushi was primarily for only a few people and the hot food was for the others in our party. If we weren't so into sharing, it would have resulted in some people eating sushi until full, then others getting their food after watching the others eat their dinner and then getting to eat their food finally. Don't know if it was planned that way by the server or not, but it could be kind of inconvenient if that's standard for them. The prices for the sushi were a bit on the high side. Specialty rolls averaged around $11 and got up to $15. They were decent sized, though, and tasty. The black rice is extra, but really good. Slight difference if flavor. but primarily in texture. Healthy impact is an added bonus. Would come back here again for sure. Summary: Great quality sushi and reasonable, though slightly high, prices. Fat Avo is something to try for sure. Dancing porky was nothing amazing, but the short rib was. Service is pretty good, though the place gets busy and causes a bit of lag time. Lots of parking. Come check it out.

Interesting ambience for a sushi place. It was dark and quiet and they played jazz music. Full Japanese menu with noodles, tempura, teriyaki, etc. and large sushi menu as well. My sushi was good and service was fast

Slow Fish is the best. Whether you dine in, at the bar, or even order for take out, the service is always amazing. The food is so fresh and tasty. We always have a great time and get treated like family. Pleamty of parking, but it can get crowded on weekends. However, they stay open pretty late so that always helps! We LOVE this place. Thanks guys!

I was in the mood for a nice salad topped with Salmon, and came across this place near my work. They had just what I wanted on the menu, and it did not disappoint. The restaurant had a very nice, calming atmosphere. Many of the customers were friendly with the wait staff, and new other customers. I'm excited to return and try some of the other tantalizing menu items!

Slow Fish is a Korean restaurant tucked away in an indiscreet shopping center on the corner of Bolsa Chica and Edinger in Huntington Beach. It’s a cool little place that also has a sushi bar.

Their Dancing Pork is slightly sweet with a spicy kick. Kind of like Galbi short ribs.

...we split the crunchy sashimi. i would highly recommend getting this as this was my second favorite item. it's a bunch of pieces of mixed sashimi and what appears to be a similar dish of the awesome blossom at chili's, and lightly topped with some sort of miso sauce. WHEN i come back, i KNOW i'm getting this again.
