I headed for the wonderful Huntington Beach pier today and had thought of Coach's Mediterranean before I really knew the name of the restaurant. I knew they made Middle Eastern food but had never tasted Coach's Mediterranean Bar & Grill.

I had seen this place under construction over the last year and thought it was a "new place" but in reality it has been in existence for 16 wonderful years my waitress Debbie Gonzales told me-who has also worked at Coach's for the same length of time-which doesn't happen too often either. I can see why she has been here so long since she goes out of her way to everyone she meets, going that extra mile for each customer. It is nice when I run on to a place like this one that is a family business that is thriving in every sense of the word. 

From the first person I met early in the afternoon named the host "Bu" or "Bolent from Istanbul"-who has the bluest eyes a great smile and charisma too. I get the feeling that all of the employees are personal friends of the owner because they all truly have a vested interest in providing the best quality food and service, much more than in many restaurants I have been in.
I'd ever seen-He was very interested in me doing a feature story on the place and telling more people who, like me, didn't truly know how amazing the food is, the people and all the great things that have kept Coach's Mediterranean Bar & Grill doing what they do all these years. What makes it work is a kind of "family" rather than employees, which I sense here. I don't know how many of them are family members, but I wouldn't doubt at least one of them is.

There were so many things on the menu that I wanted to try and I had to narrow it down to just one thing-so since I had wanted to make Falafel at home for the last 2 weeks and hadn't made it to the store to buy tahini, parsley, lemon juice, or the cucumber for the Tsatsiki Sauce-I had their Falafel Pita Sandwich. I also ordered a ½ order of their award winning, hummus that is made every day here with some of the lightest, most delicious, warm pita bread.

Some of the notables I would recommend are:
Appetizers: Mediterranean Delight for Two-which consists of Hummus, falafel, tabouleh, dolmades, feta cheese, Kalamata olives & Pita Bread.
Hummus-Theirs is rich with tahini and extra virgin olive oil and a sprinkling of cayenne that gives it kind of a kick! If you like mild dishes, I would tell them to leave it off. I just asked Debbie and the magic ingredient they sprinkle on their hummus is what I thought-"good old cayenne"-which I have never seen on top of or in any hummus anywhere. A little bit is fine but if you like things mildly seasoned, just tell them to omit it.
Debbie spoke of how great their French fries and though I meant to order a salad instead of the fries-I got the fries and am glad I did because-they even beat Johnny Rockets in terms of how crisp they are on the outside and tender on the inside. 

Selections from the Grill-Coach's Mixed Grill- Chicken Shish on a skewer, gyro, kofte, lamb chop and grilled tomatoes served with seasoned veggies over rice pilaf.
Filet Mignon Shish Kabob (Add shrimp shish kabob for only $5 more!) You'll get marinated tenderloin on a skewer with grilled tomatoes, served with seasoned veggies over rice pilaf.

The Combo Kabob features chicken and lamb as the main stars and they are both marinated separately and then put on a skewer along with tomatoes served with veggies and rice pilaf.

For $55 you and your loved one can enjoy a Mixed Mediterranean Feast Kabob. You will get a plate of the House Delight, grilled chicken and lamb on a skewer, gyro and kofte served with tomatoes & seasoned veggies over rice pilaf. You also get the house dessert which is baklava.

NOTE: House Delight is-Lebni-which is like hummus but is a made of yogurt and mint and has the tartness that Tsatsiki sauce has without the cucumber and onion; Muhammara-is made of walnuts and cumin with a kick of cayenne pepper and I really loved the kick and the crunchy texture of it. Mutebbal-is made out of eggplant olive oil, lemon juice & yogurt and I loved how well it went with the hummus. Hummus-, Tarama is made out of carrot and yogurt and garlic & Eggplant Dip is also known as the familiar Babbaganoush. Coach's is the only place that I have seen that has pitted Kalamata olives and what a wonderful flavor they have too-not too briny or salty and very delicious.

I learned about plating some of my dishes that I cook on my blog called CookingUpAStorminCA.ning.com from Coach while I visited my friends at this extraordinary restaurant. He has me seriously thinking of investing in some nice white or yellow plates now to best show off my original dishes on Foodbuzz.com and CookEatShare.com and CookingUpAStorminCA.ning.com.

As it turns out I met the owner "Coach" of this great place many years ago when I was the CEO & Founder of The Epilepsy Connection. He remembered me as a lady with a good heart and that makes me very happy to know, because I am! I was raised to put priority on the things that matter in life which are values and good people around you. What a small world it is. This was before he remodeled the restaurant adding the full bar.
They are having a wedding reception here at 7 p.m. this evening so I want to get a few more pictures uploaded and then head out in case they need to do something in the booth I am in now. The lucky couple is renting the entire restaurant with a full service bar.
If you are getting married soon and would like to inquire about having your reception at Coach's Bar & Grill call: 714-969-2233.

Or, if you are having a special anniversary and would like that day to be extra special, call Coach because in his words: "I know what wedding cost and most prices are over-inflated or what you get. However Coach's offers a very memorable experience to had by all at an amazingly low price for the quality of the food and the service. "I know what weddings cost and I am here to please my customers at reasonable prices. Rather than go to big fancy hotels and paying thousands of dollars you can do much less than that at Coach's Bar & Grill. We can cater up to 170 people with total occupancy at 179."

Also ask Coach about what dishes would be good to order for that special someone in your life. In his words: "I can create the menu selection that you like and work with you in every way."

For a selection of fresh cold cuts, mild and aromatic cheeses, and fresh salads come and visit us at Coach'sDeli.

Coaches is like family and most of the servers can make decisions and recomendatipn on meals. It's possible to just order anything meditatanian without the menu without the confused "paper or plastic" look by the staff. The owner also loves kids and welcomes our 10 month old any time in.

It was immediate hospitality the second I stepped in. They were very friendly and the food came out in a timely manner. Speaking of the food, every dish was delicious! I brought friends who had never tried Mediterranean food before. They were so impressed. Not one piece was left over on our plates. They were not only friendly to us but to every single person who stepped inside. The view the view from this restaurant restaurant was also nice. I will definitely be returning again very soon.

Excellent food! We decided to stop by after walking all over downtown, and we're so glad we did. We had: - Gyro sandwich with fries, which was fresh and just delicious. There was plenty of meat and sauce, and the fries were good. - My friend had the falafel sandwich with fries and she absolutely loved every bite. - We tried the Elderberry martini---it was one of the most delicious martinis we've ever had! They definitely know how to make a martini here as it was not too sweet and full of juice and all that other stuff, it had the perfect amount of alcohol in alignment with the Elderberry and other ingredients. It was just amazing and I wish everybody made this drink! I really like this place and would definitely recommend trying it out. It was a little loud and there were 2 dogs running around a little bit, but no biggee & it was a great experience. We will be back!!!

Only had the fried/melted cheese, but it was great. But this review is for the bartender. I didn't even catch her 5 she was so warm and inviting. The way she treats people was so refreshing in a world that seems to mostly be going in the opposite direction. It felt like we had been invited to sit at her kitchen table.

I highly recommend this establishment as it offers an exquisite selection of authentic Greek cuisine that is sure to satisfy your soul. Visiting this restaurant is an absolute must when in Huntington Beach. Whether you are dining alone, with your family, or having a business lunch, this place caters to everyone. The prices are budget-friendly, and you can choose between indoor or outdoor seating. The staff members are exceptional, providing friendly, helpful, and efficient service. We had the pleasure of enjoying their homemade lentil soup, stuffed grape leaves, Greek salad with gyros, and filet mignon dinner kabobs, all of which were prepared according to a cherished family recipe. In summary, our experience can be summed up in one word: delightful.
