Great tamales. I ordered different kinds and all were vary tasty. The ones wrapped in banana leaf were very well stuffed, full of flavor and very well sized. Yum! I had pork with red sauce and chicken with green sauce. Just fantastic. I’ll buy again when I come back to Houston.
Delicious Tamales, Great Experience!
We recently tried Dona Tere's tamales, they are were packed with flavor, and the texture was perfect – not too dry, not too moist. The variety of flavors offered a delicious treat for any taste buds. The service was friendly, and the prices were reasonable. Christmas is around the corner 🎄 call to make you tamales orders🫔.
Excellent tamales with a large variety of fillings. They also have sweet tamales. A must try, they’ve been in business for over 20 years for a reason!
HANDS DOWN THE BEST, THE ONLY PLACE YOU NEED TO GET TAMALES! I have been eating tamales at this location on Beechnut for 7 plus years and they have NEVER disappointed. Every tamale restaurant in Houston come with the same small tamales with barely any meat or flavor These tamales are HUGH and packed with flavor. It is a ways from where I live so when I do go I get a hugh amount and they last and taste good for days. I've eaten them hot and cold the next day and they are STILL GOOD. I cannot believe anyone would go anywhere else. No one comes close to this place for tamales.
If size matters, this is the tamale for you. They are HUGE.

Excellent spot for ready to serve tamales which are very large and flavorful. This location primarily serves to go business but there are a few small tables for dining in if you prefer.
The tamales are twice the size that you will get at other places, however, this extra size comes mainly from masa and not from extra meat. Unlike some of the recent negative reviews I have seen posted for this location, all the members of my party received an ample serving of meat in the central portion of the tamale. And the extra masa making up the tamale exterior provides the diner several additional opportunities to enjoy the exquisite green and red sauces that you can get to go with your order.
There is an adequate selection of beverages including Mexican Sodas like Jarritos, Sangría Señorial & Sidral Mundet. A strawberry Jarritos was an excellent complement to my chicken and pork tamales. The consensus of my group was that the pork tamales were the top choice closely followed by the chicken.
On the surface, the price of $3 per tamale seems a bit expensive, but one tamale provides more than sufficient substance to give you a nice warm full feeling in your tummy.
The people here were very kind to me, and the tamales were very good. Of course I had to respect their space (or "social distance", whatever "social distance" is) but it was worth it. I have seen this restaurant in my city of Houston for many years, so I knew that it would be good. You can also refill your propane tank or have it inspected next to this location.
Tamales Dona Tere is definitely one of my local food shops. The restaurant has a great Hispanic atmosphere. One of the numerous things that adds to this unique feel is their choice is music. They played a soothing Latin soundtrack that only added to the quality of the experience. The meal itself was wonderful. I ordered a tamale chicken wrap, which was absolutely delicious. The service was above par, I was asked numerous times during my meal if I needed anything else. Tamales Dona Tere is an absolute gem for the local community. I absolutely can't wait to go back again!
When this place first opened up the prices were a lot cheaper, which is understandable since they've grown a lot and from a business stand point makes sense. Wish they weren't as expensive but they are some of the best tamales I've had. They will tell you if they have been there a while and if you would like to wait for fresh ones. A mojority of the time they will if they aren't really busy, if not make sure to ask.
This is really the absolute best place for tamales. The masa they use is moist and flavorful. They're always made fresh and are reasonably priced for their size. They also make really good champurrado. The shop is quaint, more of a to-go place, honestly.
