Hands down a place I would visit again and again and again! The food quality is excellent! If you get seated at the bar and it’s not too busy you get a great meal like it was made in Japan itself! The ikura and anago are both excellent too! The staff are really friendly and helpful!
Step inside to Zen, home to some of the most authentic Japanese food in Houston, for an incredibly delicious dinner. Recommend making reservations in advance as the word is out about Zen and it is often busy. We shared a mix of starters including the delightfully delicate agedashi tofu, ikagesu karaage (fried squid legs), gyoza and edamame before buri kama shioyaki (salted and grilled yellow tail fish. The food was so good that we ordered more including hamachili (yellow tail sashimi with a kick) and then the extreme picante sushi roll with spicy salmon topped with various spices, eel and a spicy pepper. Two extremely positive signs - majority of other patrons were Japanese and ordering much more than one would normally eat because of the food quality. Basically, highly recommend for top quality, authentic Japanese food.
We love eating here to go or dine in. The service is always really great, along with the food of course. The last couple of times the restaurant was a bit warm inside. Other than that, I enjoy the quiet and "zen" atmosphere. It would be great for an intimate date or catching up with a friend.
I randomly came here on an occasion to explore this adorned place. Even though without a reservation, the host improvised me a good seat during their happy hour. The food splashed my palate with orgasm in fresh and refreshing flavor. Their dipping soy sauce has a very pleasant umami sweet that complemented well with the sashimi.
Heard about these secret menu to-go sushi boxes and we had to try 'em.
Super fresh and ridiculously tasty. Great for special occasion dinners at home or just a Friday night.
Loved the to-go box so much that we're definitely coming to dine-in when we get a chance.

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Great menu. Try the hamachili, zero sea, tropical salmon, gyoza & udon. The pickled ginger was really great. The sushi chef was awesome, came to greet our table. Small place, make reservations.
The lighting inside is a bit dark. The overall food is great. Deep fired squid legs is the best.
The food is so delicious, fresh, and high quality! It feels so clean and the restaurant was so clean and cozy, even on a Friday night, which is great compared to other Japanese restaurants that are jam packed with people! It was actually reasonably priced (for a Japanese sushi restaurant in River Oaks District). I highly recommended them and I will most definitely come again!! 🍱🥢
Is a small restaurant but the setup is cozy. The waitress were friendly but the service can better.
The foods were excellent, i really enjoy the grill octopus, the sushi and sashimi were outstanding.
Absolutely amazing. Incredible Japanese food. The karaage was juicy and flavorful, the tamagoyaki was abundant, the sushi was soooo fresh. We will be back again and again!
