There's nothing to complain about the food here. The price is exceptionally good, especially they have lunch special throughout the whole week. We ordered a 3 people combination. BBQ combination, Special tofu, vegetable, and a steam fish. The fish is really fresh, their Chinese BBQ is pretty good compare to others. The tofu is also tasty. The vegetable dish is just simply stir-fried therefore didn't take a picture. With tax and tips it's just $50. However, I would order from their lunch special menu next time. Their lunch menu is $7.5 per dish I could of order 7 dishes for about the same price. Probably the lack of hands in this restaurant waitress seems to be less patient, and their cups and plates don't look so clean. Environment and atmosphere is definitely not the reason why you are here so no comments. Definitely will come back in the future for their food.
Haven’t visited in over a decade since I no longer live in the SW Houston area but it was a last minute invite by my uncle that I did not want to let down - the trip was worth it. The food and service was just as good as I remember and the prices remain fair & reasonable considering so many others have gone up the past three years.
The dishes we ordered were made with the same care and love as I remember and I don’t really know why some critics say the same thing but give this family owned business as hard time over their “ambiance” since to me, it’s been this way for as long as I remember and to me, the only thing that matters is the cleanliness and the quality of the food and service, and Yuan Ten checks all the important boxes.
So if you want okay food at inflated prices but a “photo or post quality” atmosphere, go somewhere else. But….if good quality made food that reflects a mastery of traditional Chinese cuisine with friendly service and fair prices, then come visit Yuan Ten….you’ll be glad you did.
Always love coming here with the family.
Glad they opened back up again.
Not the best looking of places, but great food. (Though I’m pretty sure that’s the exact definition of “hole-in-the-wall”)
If you just want some good, reasonably priced food, this is the place to go.
Stopped here for lunch while passing by Houston. This place is very reasonably priced and the waitress was very helpful. There was a language barrier but we managed to make it work. At first we thought she was being rude however she was actually very friendly. She even saved us some money! We ordered from the regular menu and there was a similar plate on the lunch menu. She was kind enough to ask us multiple times until we understood the message. The food was amazing and the portions were very generous considering it was a lunch menu. We will definitely be stopping by again when we pass through. Generally I don’t go for tofu but if you feel adventurous the fried tofu won’t disappoint.
This place is amazing. It’s run by a small family and the place may look a lil run down but the food is the best. Honestly no place can top the Cantonese Cuisine here. I go there every time I’m in town at least once. I highly recommend the crispy fish and the honey walnut shrimp!
Exceptional food; great taste and very delicious. Food came out quickly and prices were very reasonable. Highly recommend their meat dishes, especially duck/pork with BBQ sauce.
Only thing I disliked was that the tables were very dirty, in addition to the cups.
Our new favorite Chinese restaurant! Cheap eats, tasty food, fast service. We each ordered wonton noodle soup with dumplings and added Peking duck, ginger chicken, BBQ pork on the side. Noodle soup was flavorful with or without the side meat dish. One thing I would change next time for the noodle dish is not request the dumplings as the 3 wontons were hearty enough without the extra dumplings. The fried salt and pepper squid dish was well seasoned and not rubbery. Snow pea leaves was refreshing and broke up the monotony. Will return next time for bao & Peking duck plus some of the recommended dishes (shrimp fried rice, shrimp stuffed stuffed eggplant).
Great place for Cantonese food. Great Cantonese BBQ, nice claypot options, and good choices of other Cantonese noodles and breakfast options. Prices are reasonable. Highly recommended.
Met a friend here as it’s one of her favorite restaurants. Walnut shrimp was light and crispy on the outside, firm on the inside- not mushy like some places. Peking duck skin was light and crispy. Ordered the sautéed eggplants, got the fried eggplants. Waitress though very friendly refused to swap out for sautéed eggplants. We took it togo and as leftovers in the air fryer, turned out to be an appreciated dish. We will be coming back for all three dishes!
This restaurant is really good. If it comes to attitude, this will be 2 stars, but I don’t come to restaurant and judge attitude. As long as my food come out right and quick service, it’s okay for me. You know it’s a good restaurant when an asian boomer is the server, really mean demeanor, and you’re scared to ask her even a fork. Lol i am literally scared of her, but she brings out everything fast. I will comeback lol
