Owner Mike is a tailor as well as a bartender. This bar was originally a tailor shop with bar added later and both have collectively been in operation for 88 YEARS!
It is a very eclectic place with old style bar feel. One may also see someone walk into the bar for an alteration or have a suit made and have a drink in the process.
Char Bar is a MUST for someone visiting downtown Houston.

For years my very dear friend Weldon was the magnificent owner of the best shoe shining and repair seats in town, since his passing my heart drops a little as I first walk in and realize he's not there to offer his big ole smile and hug me so tight I might burst!! Just as well I continue to return to one of my most favored and cherished spots in all of downtown Houston!! This bar is actually inside of a Taylor Shop, which is the oldest business downtown Houston Texas. It is operated by DUKE OF HOLLYWOOD TAILORS Michael and Jeremy Shapiro. It is small but cozy, so the comments regarding its size isn't Indicative of its comfort and service. . Specializing in the best tailored clothing in Houston Texas. THE ONE AND ONLY WATERING HOLD OF ITS KIND IN THIS CITY. Many may try to imitate but, none are able to duplicate!

Bar / Taylor. Where else can you get a drink and get fitted for a custom suit. 3rd generation Taylor Mike owns the bar and it’s a Taylor shop by day and a bar by night. No food but you can go bring it in from local places. Try the old fashion a specialty.
