Fantastic Indian food. We ordered for a party. Food selections are extensive, lot of options to choose from. Their entrées tasted super delicious. All dishes we ordered were fresh and cooked to perfection with the right level of spices - not too spicy nor too bland and tasted very authentic. Guests really enjoyed the food and appreciated our selection of this restaurant. We tried almost all Indian restaurants in Houston. This is the best of all!!! Pick of the dishes from the party are Curry leaf chicken, Chicken biriyani and Malai Kofta.
Excellent south India Veg and Non Veg food with some really nice items on the menu, have to try it if you are a food lover.
Great South Indian food and selection. Not too spicy and option to increase spice/hotness level. Staff is very attentive and provide excellent service/experience.
Take your time to savor and relax here.
Music is good and in the background so you can have a conversation without it disturbing you.
AC is not too cold.
Writing review after few visits. Kumar's is the one and only South Indian restaurant that provides authentic Tamil Nadu food. Have tried Mutton Soup, Chapathi, Kothu parotta, Masala Dosa, Veg meals, Chicken curry fried rice, Chennai Chilli Chicken, Chennai Chilli Prawns, Egg Biriyani, Thalapakatti Mutton Biriyani ( May be only restaurant which serves Mutton biriyani with Seeraga Samba rice).
Chennai Chilli Chicken, Chennai Chilli prawns, Masala Omlette, Masala Dosa and Thalapakatti Mutton biriyani is a must try.
Their Masala Dosa, along with sambar and tomato chutney tasted good. The sambar was too good when compared with the A2B, which I recently tried in Chicago.
Mutton Soup was very good and Mutton pieces inside the Soup were so tender.
All the dishes are served on top of Banana leaves which is unique in this restaurant.
Will keep updating this review after my future visits.
On Aug 5th 2023, visited again and had non veg meals this time.
Non veg meals for lunch, Meals had 2 mini poori’s, Boneless chilli chicken, Fish gravy, chicken gravy, mutton gravy, Sambar, Rasam, Curd, Vegetables, Papad and pickle. All the non veg gravies had one bite size meat in it. Sambar and rasam was really good. Had a good Indian food after a long time.
The food here was really good!
Went for dinner on a weekend. While we were having dinner it got busy and the wait time was longer. Service was okay, they need a few more people especially during busy hours. Our order went to another table, we received wrong order, we had to wait a long time to get any help.
Coming to food - loved their ghee roast dosas! They were crisp and fresh. The idlis were were soft and warm. My favorite was black pepper shrimp with a dosa!
Overall the food was really fresh and good. Definitely going back
Kumar's restaurant non-veg thali has received rave reviews for its delicious and authentic flavors. Customers have praised the generous portions and variety of dishes included in the thali. The chicken curry and mutton biryani have been particularly praised for their rich and aromatic taste. The service has also been commended for its efficiency and friendly staff. Overall, Kumar's non-veg thali is highly recommended for those looking to indulge in a satisfying and flavorful meal.
I loved chicken pallipalayam. Moderate on Parota and salna. Sambar vadai was decent. You can get good south indian dishes here.
I initially had a poor experience with a carry out order. I called the restaurant & spoke to the owner. He was very apologetic & asked if I would come back & he would let me try another dish. I had the Kal Dosia with goat curry. It was great. It was hot and portion size of the 2 dosia was large. I had a chai as well. I would definitely come back. They have a meat & vegetable all you can eat options too.
I don't know anything about Tamil food, but I know that this food was great.
This place is probably the 1st one I am giving a 5 star. I have had Indian food at many places across US. But I have always craved for the authentic South Indian (tamil) cuisine. Everything is top notch. Loved the food and ambience. The main thing I liked about the place is to give the authentic experience they didn’t tone down the spice level. Felt like home food. Kudos !!!!!
Delicious food!! I enjoyed the Guntur Kodi Kura which is a chicken curry, the Mutton Kothu Parotta to share. Both were so so tasty. I ended with a Mango Lassi smoothie and it couldn’t of been better!
I really enjoyed my initial visit to this upbeat and friendly staffed restaurant. I was unsure as to what to order, so the manager made a few suggestions. All the items were tasty, a little spicy, on point, and served in a timely manner.
I had a "Shrimp Appetizer", followed by "Chicken Tikki", "Rice", "Naan", and a "Special House Tea" to drink. All items were served with generous portions, and brought to the table on a tray with a large banana leaf. The presentation was unique, and made for an immediate note that they take pride in what they serve, and pay attention to all the details.
I would say their "Naan" is much better than most other establishments. I think it is because they do theirs very, very thin, add the appropriate "Olive Oil" and seasonings I believe, and then toast it so that it has nice "charred spots" that add to the flavor.
"South Indian" themed music was upbeat, and very enjoyable to listen to while eating your meal. The music was different than what I was accustomed to, but it provided for an authentic experience.
Great Job! Will definitely go back!
