Food taste great, I had meat loaf, green beans, Mac & cheese & some yams... Came with corn bread... I don't like that she doesn't have containers for sides I don't want my stuff in a bowl with plastic over it. Everything had a taste but nothing screamed I have to visit this place again... and that's what I'm looking for food with a signature taste... Everything inside looks old... staff greets u but that's it.... & prices cheap... Oh and all black owned restaurants need kool aid or sweet tea...

This was my first time visiting Mama's Oven. I ordered the oxtails, rice, green beans, and yams. Everything was good, no complaints there. However, the wait time was too long for my liking. Waited about an hour! There was only one person working.

If you want good Southern food you can go there and it's very good and delicious. It will take a long time, but it's worth the weight.

Mama’s Oven: Southern Style Cooking offers a tantalizing array of Southern comfort food. The fried ribs, accompanied by Mac and cheese and yams, were delightful, served in generous portions that were both hot and fresh. However, the wait time proved a challenge, despite the nearly empty restaurant. The ambiance, characterized by worn-out furniture and an unused drink cooler, echoes a "hole-in-the-wall" feel. Despite these drawbacks, the sheer deliciousness of the food makes a return visit a compelling choice.

Wow this was the best chicken fried steak I have ever had! The gravey, mashed potatoes and green beans were crazy good! There was so much food for a really good price.

This is a old neighborhood place. Only three people working the joint. It took like 45 minutes to get our food. But, it was worth the wait. I don't mind supporting small business owners.

From the outside looking in it is definitely an older place. Don't let that scare you away. The lady at the register was so so nice. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and I have to say it was on of the best I've had in a long time. I have to say it is some home town cooking right here.

My husband & I found this place while searching online for a black owned restaurant near our location. I'm so glad Mama's Oven came up because it was just the right kind of soul food that we were in need of. We arrived at 5pm on a Thursday & it wasn't crowded at all. The staff was very patient as we tried to decide what to eat. These ladies were friendly and WONDERFUL! They even shared stories of their 29 year existence in the area. We ordered an oxtail plate & a pork chop plate. Both came with 3-sides and everything was DELICIOUS!! The prices are fabulous & the food portions are great. If you are looking for comfort food with lots of flavor then you owe it to yourself to check out Mama's Oven. We're definitely going back on our next trip to Houston.

This little place was recommended to us for oxtail by a young lady in the V.A. We were greeted and our order taken right away. The food took 15 or 20 minutes to come out and it was outstanding. My smothered pork chops were fork tender, the gravy had a little kick, the rice was cooked well, and the yams were outstanding. His oxtail was tender and lots of it. The dirty rice was nice and the green beans weren't smushy. He was jealous of my yams though. The cornbread was just the tiniest bit sweet and soaked up that gravy just fine. The lemonade was good and tart while the sweet tea had lemon! The servings of everything were generous. The store was clean and well lit. The chairs had padding which was nice. The whole place has a "mama's table" feel to it. I'm almost positive my granny had this table set. I watched them gift a young man a large order of rice as they didn't accept apple pay. They didn't fuss or scold him just sent him on his way with a smile and a blessing. Overall worth every single penny. Bring your momma and granny for the food their mommas and granny's cooked.
