Is there anything this family doesn’t do well? Just like all their other restaurants, this was authentic and high quality. Had to try the brisket, and it stacks up to the best places in Austin. Great crusty bark, smokey flavor and pull. Sausage was pretty good, more like a kielbasa, but good.
Surprisingly good for the amount of items they serve. The brisket I ordered fatty and it came out perfectly. The black was nice and salty and the meat was very tender and flavorful. The mac and cheese was creamy and the fries were fresh. I really like this place and think the large beef brisket plate was actually worth it.
I had left overs and made brisket tacos at home, still delicious!
Good food. Great service. All the staff was nice. The line was quick, but easy. Ribs were tender and chicken was juicy. The prices were fair. Nice environment and clean. They have a drive through which is convenient. Downtown traffic is beware during rush hour.
Visited in August of 2021. I'm migrating reviews from other platforms to here, so I've copied my review here.
This place is great. We're from out of town and my friend and I split the mix plate with ham, pulled pork, brisket, sausage, and a rib. We got mac and cheese and dirty rice on the side.
No complaints at all. The food is very tasty and there's plenty for both of us. The staff was friendly and it was ready for pickup right away when we got there. If you're VERY price-sensitive, this place might not be your best option, but coming from Boston, this is twice the food for half the price, and much better than I can get back home.
I was very pleased with everything I ordered. The portions are huge when ordering the side salad and baked potato. Side dishes are much smaller in size. We really enjoyed the Mac and cheese, as well as the brisket, it was melt in your mouth good. The ribs were decent, more on the tough side. The hamburgers are very large as well. They do not offer a kids menu.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Pappas BBQ, and I must say that the brisket was absolutely fantastic. It deserves a solid 10 out of 10. The flavors were rich, the meat was tender and juicy, and it had a perfect smoky aroma. It was a truly memorable culinary experience.
However, I must mention that the prices at Pappas are on the higher side. While I understand that quality ingredients come at a cost, it would be more enticing for customers if there were some more affordable options available. Nevertheless, the exceptional taste of the brisket made up for the slightly steep price.
Unfortunately, the baked beans fell short of expectations. They were undercooked and lacked the desired tenderness. It was a minor disappointment amidst an otherwise enjoyable meal. I believe some extra attention to the cooking time and seasoning could greatly improve this side dish.
On a positive note, the dessert was an absolute delight. It was a perfect ending to the meal, and I can confidently give it a solid 10 out of 10. The flavors were exquisite, the presentation was appealing, and it left me craving for more. It was evident that the chef put a lot of effort into creating this sweet masterpiece.
Overall, my experience at Pappas was a good one. Despite the slightly expensive prices and the undercooked baked beans, the standout brisket and exceptional dessert made the visit worthwhile. I would recommend giving this restaurant a try, especially if you're a fan of mouthwatering brisket and delectable desserts.
DE-LISH-OUS!! our first time ever going, so we had questions, but the young kid at the counter had a strong NY sounding accent and talked so quiet I kept asking him to repeat it and still couldn't understand. Our food was excellent, and I never order brisket but took a chance, and man, it was top-notch. Pulled pork was good, not the best I've had but was moist and flavorful. Even my 9 yr old kept saying she was happy we ate there. She was loving it.
The family platters is perfect for a family of 4.
The meats could be warmer and I would like a few more alcohol options. But can't complain when it's this good.
Best brisket I've ever had.
Food is always good at any Pappas. This visit was after a couple year gap between visits to Houston. There were actually roaming security officers inside. They even escorted us to the parking lot as we were leaving after dark. It gave off a really uncomfortable vibe.
We didn't realize it was cafeteria style when we arrived. We thought eh we'll take a chance. Boy are we glad we did. This food is FIRE!!!
