Review Ginger & Fork - Houston

Chris Miller
My wife and I heard about Ginger and Fork from a few people so we decided to stop for lunch. Best decision we made, this is exactly what a restaurant should be. All the food is made in house and the flavors are pure and clean. We over indulged trying as much as we could and the next course was tastier than the previous one.. My wife and I are both allergic to gluten and there are multiple choices for us to enjoy and we did. The waitstaff was so friendly and helpful it made this dining experience even better. Can't wait to go back

pretty good Chinese for the Heights area. higher quality but on the pricey side for the quantity of food. more affordable lunch portions. ask for the chili oil. it’s really good. it has fewer chili flakes but has black bean paste. the owner is very friendly to the customers. the service was top notch and the food came out quickly. small parking lot but we went during lunch and it’s wasn’t busy.

Modern Twist On Authentic Chinese. This was my first time as this Chinese bistro. I really liked it a lot. It’s an intimate setting with a very attentive staff. We ordered a number of things including their specialty cocktail made to celebrate Lunar New Year 2023, the year of the rabbit. Our menu sampler included: Fried Cauliflower, Cha Siu Strips (Succulent Strips Of Cantonese Barbecue Pork), Soup Dumplings, HK Pineapple Chicken, Steamed Garlic Shrimp, a Ginger Margarita, and their specialty cocktail celebrating the Lunar New Year, Gong Hay Fat Choi (Date-infused Four Roses Bourbon, Lemon, Cane 24k Gold Flakes). For dessert we had the Asian Pear Bread Pudding, The Coconut Jelly, and the Gold Rush Custard Bao. I thought everything was great and I look forward to going back in warmer months when the outdoor patio is open.

This was recommended by a friend. I was pleasantly surprised by the fresh, bright decorative modern style of this restaurant. While it is a small restaurant it felt spacious and was able to seat many people. We were seated quickly and found the service to be friendly and fast. The menu was compiled of many delicious temptations. We were very happy with the food we ordered. Fresh and bursting with flavor. The drinks were also very visually appealing and tasty. The only issue with this restaurant was the parking. While they do have valet for customer's, it was so busy that they appeared overwhelmed and cars just seemed to be everywhere. If this could be improved it would be a win win. Though this detail shouldn't distract from the great dinning experience that we enjoyed in the restaurant.

The food was amazing and the staff were so welcoming. I had the shrimp siu mai and the soy sauce chow fun.

Came in on Friday for lunch. Sat at the bar and service was outstanding. Had just small apps of the soup dumplings, pork sliders and cilantro rice. Everything was beautifully presented and so nom nom. Can’t wait to come back to try the rest of the menu.

In Houston for an event. Wanted to try because of the reviews. The food was good. Atmosphere was great, our waiter was friendly and the owner came over to say hello to us. It was a nice experience

Wife and I visited this quaint neighborhood haunt, tucked off Shepherd for date night. We found a hidden gem among the various bars and chains restaurants that dominate the busy corridor. The restaurant was cozy with limited seating, only adding to our feeling of finding something special. We decided to enjoy the gorgeous weather on the back deck as there aren't many of these days to enjoy in Space-town. The drink menu contained a dozen or so hand crafted concoctions, all sounding quite appealing. I went smoke spicy route, trying both the Hot Child and Son of a Gun. Both were delicious. Hot child was frothy, sweet forward with a touch of heat in the back. Son of a Gun held its heat evenly throughout with an interesting citrus backbone. I found myself gravitating to it quickly with each additional sip. The wife went with the Panama Daiquiri. She imagined she could enjoy one or three of these poolside quite easily. As for food, we are mainly plant based eaters so we tend to eat a ton of Asian foods. However, we allow ourselves some wiggle room when enjoying a meal out. We opted to start with the soup dumplings. Wow. Super interesting and tasty. A must experience. For mains, we enjoyed Buddha's delight, garlic ginger cauliflower, and the beef chow fun. All were delicious and so fresh. This was definitely not your American-Chinese takeout joint. They served fresh, authentic dishes that left you relaxed and content as opposed to bloated from fried grease overload. Throughout our meal, we were serviced quite nicely. The owners mingled about and we were entertained with good conversation from both of them. We can't wait for our next date night visit. Muy enjoyable.

So delicious! Elevated versions of the best Asian infused dishes. Come with a group. Family style sharing is the best experience. Cocktails are stellar! Can't wait to return. ❤️

Ginger & Fork just celebrated 6-years of business! I first checked them out when they opened in March 2016, and they are still great even in 2022! If you haven't been, Ginger & Fork is a fine dining Chinese restaurant inspired by Hong Kong and Cantonese cuisine. The concept was started by Mary Li who has been a bartender since 1991 and has close to 40-years of industry experience. The restaurant was named by Mary's daughter, Tammie Tse, who learned many benefits of cooking with ginger while obtaining her Master's degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. This mother-daughter duo brought top-notch Chinese cuisine matched with great service, wine, and crafty cocktails inside the inner loop of Houston! Depending on the time of day, Ginger & Fork has a free private parking lot during lunch hours, but it switches to valet-only for dinner. The restaurant itself is inside of a renovated house. I have gone for both lunch and dinner, and the experience is quite different. They have a lunch menu where you can dine in yourself between $10-$20, and the menu changes more to family-style dining after 3 pm. If you come for dinner, definitely grab a craft cocktail. I usually get the Ginger Margarita (El Tesoro Platinum Tequila, Cointreau, Canton Ginger Liqueur, fresh lime juice, ginger) for $17.  This definitely has a spicy kick to it, so beware! As for appetizers, I absolutely love the Spicy Tofu Cubes (lightly fried tofu tossed in salt and peppers) for $10.  The tofu cubes are perfectly fried, not too squishy or soft.  They are served with jalapeños as well. This is something I always order when I come here, and I have not found a place that does spicy tofu cubes better than this! For dinner, they have quite an extensive menu ranging from grains, noodles, seafood, land, and vegetarian options. I have tried many items, but my favorites have been the Cantonese Spicy Squid (lightly fried squid tossed in salt and peppers) for $26 and the Squid Ink Fried Rice (squid, shrimp, Chinese sausage, and scallions) for $24. Overall, I really love Ginger & Fork, and I am happy they opened up so close to my home. Mary and her daughter, Tammie, are awesome. The restaurant has great service, incredible cocktails, and amazing food. If you have a chance to check them out, please order the Spicy Tofu Cubes! You will not be disappointed.

The staff here were probably the friendliest I've ever encountered. Absolutely loved the experience. Awesome food. Awesome drinks.

5/29/21 First time here and wow, amazing!! Food was so delicious!! For starters, my boyfriend and I got the XIAO LONG BAO (four dumplings). That alone was a great experience! Then we had the Steel Pot Beef and Tobiko Fried Rice. Again, amazing! Food is on the pricey side, but definitely worth it and shareable for two people. Perfect place for date night! Service was also great! Looked like a busy night, but our waitress was still attentive of us and so were the other staff. Our plates were cleared out when we were done and our water glasses were filled constantly without us asking. The whole staff was professional. Can’t wait to come back! **Parking is free valet, but tips are welcomed!

We went for Sunday brunch and had a wonderful time! Staff was engaging and service was great. We enjoyed the jellyfish, diakon cakes, soup dumplings and squid ink fried rice, all excellent!

A cute place located between the Heights and the Rice Military areas. Good craft cocktails. The soup dumplings were exceptional and the brittle bone flounder was a fun and tasty dish. The service was attentive and friendly.

No words. Every single dish we had was amazing. From the appetizers to the dessert! My son loved the chili oil, and he does not do spice. That's how amazing everything was. A great restaurant, and they did not shy away from our family of 7, with 4 of them being kids. Amazing! Oh, and don't let me forget the valet service! Brought our car around right as we exited.

Wow, what an experience!! My wife and I went here yesterday and didn’t have a reservation so we sat at the bar and I think we will sit there always from now on! Amazingly friendly service and good conversation with all the bartenders/waiters helping each other to make sure you never get forgotten! The owners were so nice and friendly throughout our dinner always checking up on us! Every dish that we had was delicious! The Xiao Long Bao was a delicious blend of flavors! Lastly, the cocktails are amazing! Don’t get your normal drink here, tell them what you like and take whatever they recommend!

Very delicious... from starters to coffee... very good food and drinks (I really liked the Whiskey Root). One item for improvement: my cloth napkin smelled funny.
