Review Cafe Piquet - Houston

We tried Cuban food at this cafe and really enjoyed it. The foods were very interesting and good, especially the grill fish dish and the flan. Richard was a nice and helpful server. We had a little chit chat with Rogelio, the manager. What a friendly host. He spent time to answer all of our questions from the foods to the decoration on the walls. I recommend this place for small families or small group of friends.

I’ve been coming to this place for years and years, for special occasions, and the casual dining. It’s an understatement to say I love and appreciate this place. The food is always so damn good I don’t even have time to consider taking a picture, I just simply want to eat and enjoy the meal. that was true then and that’s true now. 11/5 stars.

My boyfriend and I drive from Lake Charles to this restaurant because it is that good! The workers are so nice! The food is incredible! We always get the beef empanadas, ham and cheese croquettes, and Palomilla. We always leave so happy!

Got the empanada trio, ham croquettes, tostones rellenos, la pechugona, red snapper filet, stuffed smoked ham and cheese filet, oxtail special of the day, arroz con leche, and flan con coco. I wasn't the biggest fan of the ham croquettes, but the beef empanadas were really good. Loved the oxtail and the sauce it was in. The little fries in the pechugona were also really good. Everything had great texture and flavor, would definitely come back

We stopped by late Saturday afternoon for a coffee and mariquitas. Unfortunately, the coffee machine was broken. I decided to sample the empanadas and my vegetarian spouse ordered the Nelly salad. Everything we ate was delicious! The beef empanada was tastier than the chicken though both had a delicious and non-greasy crust. The sauces which accompany them were outstanding. Watch out for that spicy one! Same for the mariquitas - crispy without being greasy. I ordered a side of chimichurri, and it had a wonderful herbaceous taste. You could tell all the ingredients used in it were fresh. The Nelly salad was the perfect combination of flavors - sweet, savory, and tangy - plus a filling serving. The restaurant was clean, as were the restrooms. Our server forgot one thing, but other than that she was very attentive. We hope to be back in the next few weeks for dinner.

Even though I have lived within a mile of this place for over a decade today was my first time visiting. It did not disappoint. The food was absolutely amazing. Our server Richard was too notch and everything was perfect. It was priced very well with my Family of five eating for about $80 including an appetizer. It will definitely become one of my regular spots.

Great food. Decent service. We hadn't been here in many years because we live so faraway. We found ourselves in the area and decided to come by. It got busy while we were there and we had a hard time getting the check towards the end. Since we had to be at the theater for an event, we were looking to bolt out of there. Not the fastest check out but we were happy with our dishes: the pollo de ajo and empanada trio. The congri and yuca were very satisfying. The restaurant was definitely starting to fill up for dinner when we left here on a Sunday afternoon.

The food was excellent. Service outstanding. If you like your food spicy ask for their hot sauce….. loved it

Covered all the bases, when it comes to Cuban cuisine. Spacious. Patio very nice. Plenty of parking.

Great place to take the the whole family. Everyone was friendly and helpful. All the employees were happy and they were all helping each other, great teamwork. Compliments to the management for fostering a great work environment. I had the Media Noche. This was my first time, so I did not know what to expect. It was amazing, so many distinguishable flavors (the meats, cheese, bread and toppings). The sandwich looked a bit small at first, but it filled me up! I'm a big guy and it filled me up really well, so don't underestimate the size. I will be back to try other items.

Yesterday I visited Cafe Piquet here in Houston, a local Cuban restaurant on Bissonnet Street that is out of this world. Probably literally. They have two parking lots on either side, something I’ve never seen at any restaurant I’ve been to. Only an alien from another world could’ve thought of that idea as its out-of-this-world genius! But that’s nothing compared to the food. If I had known how good the food was here before I visited, I’d have made like one of their fried plantains and split sooner! Their plantains are so delicious and are served with many if not all of their dishes. I ordered the beef empanadas which were a culinary combination of juicy, spicy, and rich. My only complaint, however, had to do with the service. My wife, who is Indonesian and wears hijab (Islamic headscarf), is not Latina nor does she speak a word of Spanish other than a few basic words and phrases. Yet the waitstaff assumed we were Spanish speakers, which was in poor taste. But the waiter was very thorough otherwise and got our food and drinks to our table in a very timely manner. I ordered this coconut shrimp dish in a creamy sauce made with bell peppers and onions in it. (I ordered it without onions, of course.) My wife ordered this dish made of shredded beef with onions in garlic sauce. My daughter ordered chicken tenders. (Maybe try something with a bit more variety next time, sweetie pie.) The food was absolutely splendid. It was rich and delicious without even a hint of disappointment for my taste buds. Aside from the minor setback with the waitstaff, it was an excellent experience. It was an eating expedition to the island nation of Cuba without even having to leave the Houston area. I rate Cafe Piquet with 4.8 out of 5 stars! Absolutely delightful experience overall.

Wonderful place if you want to taste Caribbean flavors. Wonderful Cuban coffee. Wonderful staff 🇨🇺. I loved the food and the decor. You can see license plates from different countries all around the restaurant 🥘. Confortable parking space 🅿️ Totally recommended ⭐️. My

The weather was perfect to enjoy lunch outside. The food was prepared perfectly and the peach iced tea was refreshing. The salad selection comes vegan with the proper dressing and all vegetarian salads can be topped with protein for a little extra.

First time trying Cuban food. Service was great. Waitress answered all of our questions and provided good recommendations. Definitely will go back to try the other dishes. Highly recommend as the flavors are delicious and bold.

This has to be the best Cuban place in town, if not the entire state or country! The ambiance is very honest but it’s almost upscale too, you can come here fully dressed or just casual and feel just fine. The service is excellent and the food comes quickly…but the taste, quality ingredients and respectable portions are out of this world! Combine it with reasonable pricing and I almost can’t believe a place this good still exists these days!

Absolutely fantastic! The food was marvelous--best Cuban I've ever had. However, the real standout was the service--best ever. I was amazed that with our party of 12 with 6 different checks they didn't miss a beat. I couldn't make up my mind so I had the Carnaval Cubano with ropa vieja, masitas, boliche, congri (beans & rice), maduros, and yucca frita. It was all fantastic. We had the Queso Frito (fried panela cheese with guava jelly) and I've got to learn how to make this. You can't go wrong at Cafe Piquet. We'll be back the next time we are in Houston.

First visit to this Gem recently. All in my party thoroughly enjoyed their food. The service was top level, and we never had to ask for anything. Service staff worked very well together and all our needs were taken care of. Looking forward to visiting again soon! I have returned many times since my initial visit. All have been thouroughly enjoyed. Cannot go wrong with the "Ropa Vieja".

Average price: $10-$15 per person Vibe: is chill. Business and close friend dine in, Not first date material. The food was good. Wish it had more substance. It is delicious and I would recommend to anybody looking for authentic Cuban food.

Nice lunch in attractive setting

Flavorful cubano sandwich was well balanced, enough meat for average eaters. Salad also good. Lots of interesting options for a larger meals. I liked the interior, lots of light and well decorated. Service excellent

Have been coming here for

Have been coming here for so many years. It’s always good and the staff is pleasant. When I crave good Cuban food this is where I go. Strongly recommended.

Never disappointing

This is authentic, tasty and reasonably priced Cuban cuisine. I usually order the Pollo a la Plancha, which is a grilled chicken breast with sauteed onions. Most of the entrees are served with excellent black beans and rice as well as sweet (ripe) plantains. I love this food!!! They also make an outstanding sangria!!

Good Cuban Food. Recommended by friends of ours who are from Cuba, said it was authentic and good. They can vouch for the authenticity, but I will vouch for the taste.... very very good!

Honestly some of the best food I have had in a long while. Not sure if this is what Cubans define as "soul food" but it should be!!! I had the La Rumba sampler platter and it was divine.
Drink with a beer and finish with a Cuban coffee and you will not go wrong.

Good Find. We have been living within two miles of this restaurant for over ten years now, but only found it when we started looking for a decent Cuban restaurant in Houston.

We decided to go there to celebrate a wedding anniversary with some friends.

We arrived at 6.30pm to have a choice of tables. They were very accommodating.

The service was friendly and knowledgable. We were able to "tweak" a few of the courses to get exactly what we wanted. We tried a variety of dishes. All were excellent and thoroughly enjoyed.

The atmosphere was terrific.

After the man courses, we had to try the Cuban coffees. Very good!

The prices were reasonable.

We will definitely be back.

FANTASTIC ESTABLISHMENT. Disregard all the negative reviews. They may have expected service like they are Presidents. I met Richard, Nelly (the owner) and tons more of the staff as I dined and enjoyed some tasty beverages. Great place! Food was delicious and the service was remarkable. I had croquetas de jamon and sopa de pollo. After, I had bistec de palomilla. Everything was delightful and seasoned tremendously well. Great flavor and great service. DEFINITELY WILL RETURN AND RECONSIDER. :)

Skip this one. I went here with my husband. neither of us could believe how bland the food was or how bad our service was. the waiter just walked away while we were ordering and didn't return to finish until 10 minutes later. getting the check was another great difficulty. bad service is one thing, but the food was regrettable also. bland and dry, we were excited about Cuban food since it isn't common in Houston, but it was sub par also. I will never go back.

Simply Delicious. I've been looking for a Puerto Rican restaurant in Houston and so far I've had no luck. The closet thing to PR food is Cuban food and that's how I discovered Cafe Piquet. The restaurant was decorated with Latin art and the staff was very polite and attentive.
I ordered the empanadas and they were delicious, I just wish they were filled more. As for the entree, I ordered Vaca Frita with Congri Rice and Platanos Maduros with Mojo and it was to die for. The rice was moist and had enough beans that is wasn't overwhelming and the meat was tender and flavorful. My husband ordered an entree sampler called La Rumba and every item on that plate was just delicious. Lots of flavor and garlic which is what we love in food. The beans...the beans I could have eaten by themselves. They also give you a lot of food so you will have enough to fill your tummy or take leftovers home.
I would recommend trying this place out honestly, it's a treasure.

Ate around 3pm on a weekday and there was only one waiter so service was a bit slow but the food was great. Ordered the tostones and vegetarian platter. Plenty of food to take home for a meal the next day. Plan on going back Monday with my brother.

Walked in to use my groupon voucher and on customer service, they are getting a 2 out of a 5 so far. Still waiting for the waiter who keeps making himself very unavailable. Can't wait to taste the food. The only thing still keeping me in the restaurant is the groupon voucher or else I would have walked out.

I had lunch here on Friday and the food and service were spot on, as usual. Great Cuban fare and one of my favorite lunch spots. Highly recommended!

PK Cubano!. In a recent visit, I sampled a number of dishes, most of which were pretty good, perhaps not the best Cuban in Houston, but good nevertheless. For appetizers, the Empanada de Carne was good, while the Papa Relena, Croquets de Jamon and the Tostones were just OK. The El Cubano sandwich was pretty good as were the Masitas Fritas and Bolche. The Yuca con Mojo and the Maduros were excellent, but the Ropa Vieja was not great and the Moros had an odd taste.

Overall, good enough to come back for more!

I love the red snapper, generous portion with a crispy breading and moist and flakey fish on the inside. Service is typically slow so don't go if you are in a rush. The dishes are authentic and delicious!

Yuca!. The yuca con mojo is super good! now on to the Ropa Vieja, while i wanted it to be good it was really bad, very poor quality meat, I felt like i was trying to eat old ropa vieja flavored bubble gum from underneath a desk it was very chewy. The service was A+ and the decor/ feel of the place was cool.

Good cuban food. I orders the tostones and yuca frita con mojo for appetizers. I was amazed to see malta in their drink selection. My entree was the carnaval cubano and it spot on.

Love Ropa Vieja. Cafe Piquet made me fall in love with Cuban cuisine in general and specifically Ropa Vieja. For that, I will forever be grateful.

Ropa Vieja is slow-cooked so it is amazingly tender and full of flavor. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. If you are debating whether you should try Cafe Piquet, stop. Go now, and order the Ropa Vieja. Get an order of fried plantains as well. You will thank me, and you will thank Cafe Piquet.

Very good food, but the service can improve a lot. However, best Cuban food close to the Medical Center.

Everything is great. I started going to this restaurant about 6 or 7 years ago, when it was still in the shopping center a little ways down from where it is located now. I would go for lunch 3 or 4 times a week. The food is always so great that I would just order the lunch special without asking what it was. I have never regretted it.

Great Cuban Food. I have been to this establishment multiple times. I was a regular with the prior owners and now with the current owners. I have always enjoyed the food. Everything tastes great. My favorite dish is the Yuca con Mojo (Boiled Yuca with garlic) and the Higado Italiano (sp?). The food is always served steaming hot and very large portions. The black beans are to die for!!!

The service at Cafe Piquet could be better. The waiters/waitresses tend to be very slow and it takes a while to get your food. I reccommend ordering a fruit flavored milkshake or an appetizer and relax while waiting for your food. I would highly reccommend this place. Excellent food, beautiful wall art and decorations and nice staff...just very slow to bring food.
