We discovered this place while visiting three years ago and we kept coming back ever since! The grilled chicken thighs are our favorite - it’s always cooked to perfection.
It’s also huge plus that they are open late and their staff are really friendly.

Such a great restaurant with good price! We were very hungry and ordered beers and ended up only costing about 65 per person. Highly recommended.
We were in Honolulu for three weeks and visited here twice. For the two times, there was different chefs. And it made an difference. The second time was way better than the first in terms of grilling.
Highlights: the tofu, fried chicken, beef tongue, okura, steak….
Will come back and highly recommended!

we LOVE this small restaurant. It’s cozy, the staff is always polite, I love the decor, and as soon as you walk in you are surrounded by delicious smells.
There’s so much to choose from.. every time I try something different and I’m always happy with the outcome. the edamame is so good, it has an extra layer of flavor from being fire roasted, and is perfect. The cold tofu is silky, and delicious, the oxtail ramen is my favorite bowl of loveliness. Come with patience here. The food takes a little longer but is so fresh and the presentation is gorgeous. Definitely worth the wait. This is the restaurant that I bring out of towners . and if you live kaimuki it’s a short walk home after a satisfying meal

The only complaint for me is the portion sizes. They still get 5 stars. Maybe i just have a huge appetite.

Very lovely restaurant with very tasty foods! We orders many aburi dishes (short ribs & beef flank), eggplant, karaage, oxtail noodle, zosui and many others, and they are all very yummy!
The vibe was also nice and the service was awesome. Will definitely come back again when I visit Honolulu!

This was my absolute favorite place to eat in Honolulu. The atmosphere, food, and drinks are amazing. The staff and Ibushi-san who is barbecuing all the foods are so friendly and welcoming. Their baked potato is out of this world. Just go here, we went there twice in our week long trip, and I’m already planning another trip just to come here!

The wait is crazy but it’s worth it! My group of 6 put our name down at 7:10pm and got in at 8:30pm. We like everything that we ordered, but the standouts were the one bite tonkatsu, grilled corn, rib eye steak, Yukon potatoes, cold tofu and grilled beef tongue. Honorable mentions were the chicken karrage and thighs.

Everything here is absolutely delicious. It really makes a difference to grill everything over coal. We had beef, chicken and pork and all three were incredible. I also had the dandan and the eggplant and really enjoyed both. The calimari was surprisingly good as well. Another big plus is that they have Japanese whiskey as an option for their highballs. A lot of izakaya aren't carrying them anymore.

We loved everything we got here! The grilled vegetables were amazing (especially the corn) and the seasonal sashimi was immaculate. We also got the beef tongue and the beef tataki and both were great. Their hiball drinks are also delicious and pleasantly affordable.
They can often fill up especially on weekend nights so recommend calling beforehand for a reservation! I’ll definitely be visiting again next time I’m on the island

One of the best and most authentic Japanese restaurants I have ever been outside Japan. This is an izakaya style pub, with a menu mostly of grilled meats, vegetables, and side dishes. The grill uses binchotan charcoal (expensive and can be hard to find) in hibachi type barbeques located in an open kitchen. The smoke goes out a massive hood so there is no smell in the restaurant. Great Japanese flavors like miso and sesame. Good drink menu of sakes, shochu, beer, and liquor. I really enjoyed this place compared to other more expensive Japanese restaurants. Its not high dining, but so much fun. The staff are also super friendly! Highly recommended, a great hidden find in Kapahulu. I love the attention to detail that makes the experience so much better - Japanese pop music BGM and even the servers use Japanese order forms. Fantastic! I lived in Japan for 30 years and Aburiya would be my go to place in Japan! Hint - counter seats are the best.

The food was above and beyond! It was the two of us and the portion size was just right. Our taste buds are in heaven with all the spices and sauces. And the presentation too!
We had the beef tataki as recommended, grilled vegetables, kalbi, eggplant, and cold tofu. Everything was great and super tasty.
