Review Shokudo - Honolulu

They still got it with the honey toast. The service is friendly from everyone we interacted with. We had a new server so the service was a bit slower. We stopped in just for the honest toast and it was worth it. They have validated parking in the back as well.

Sooo delicious! Definitely make a reservation in advance because there will definitely be a wait time (although it's worth it either way!) The honey toast dessert is yummy but HUGE. A half order is more than enough!

They moved locations to the one right next to the corner one. The place is still big and although they seem to not have AC in the entire facility, the temperature of the place stays very fresh. The food was very good. Order the lobster as appetizer, the garlic salmon sushi, and the Bompi (I think it was called) - a rice bowl with an egg on top. All of it was very good, however the dessert was way too sweet.

Service was superb! It wasn't too busy when we got there (dinner). Honey Toast is a must! So ono! Share tho coz it's too much for one person.

Every once in a while we come here especially when Kawaii-Kon comes around as a somewhat tradition among friends and family during Kon, we most of the time 9 times out of 10, we come here for the prized dessert of all time, Honey Toast. ♡ But the menu tends to change from what I can tell because they use a QR Code for their menu... which to me, I find that to be very inconvenient, because it takes some people several tries to load it or download it depending on how well their technological devices work. And even for elderly who may not understand how to use technology... there should be a physical menu option available. But that's just my opinion. The food is great, the service is good, and this is a nice location to treat yourself at every once in a while

Always nice to grab food here. Early hour is easier to get in. Service is good 😊 while less customers around 👍

Took my friend here for her birthday. Everything was great. The waiter gave us a great recommendation for saki. The sushi were tasty. The mandoo was crispy and tasty too. The Honey toast is decent just for pics 5/2023 took my date here and they substituted our entree well with no problems. Everything was great. Put in your reservations a week prior. We were seated immediately.

It’s somewhat difficult to get in if you do not have a reservation. I’ve stopped by to put my name on a list 3 times and the wait was well over an hour. When I did make a reservation I was sat on time, the host was extremely friendly, our server was kind as well. I ordered apps for the most part which all were delicious. They gave me a complimentary dessert for my special occasion which was very nice and tasty as well. The crab dip was phenomenal.

Shokudo moved from its shiny, cavernous space on the corner to the next one over, the former Angelo Pietro location. The smaller, more modest digs suits them well. Though the less flashy decor may discourage people who dine for Instagram fame, the food is still great and the staff still solid. The menu is smaller and I'd like to think they stuck with what they did best. And yes, the honey toast dessert is still a must-have.

Fantastic place to try the good Japanese cuisine which Hawaii is known for. I recommend making a reservation on OpenTable instead of walking in; it takes 2 minutes and saves you waiting in the walk-in queue! The Lobster Dynamite and Dynamite Roll were both to die for, I recommend trying them out if you like mildly spicy food. We heard a lot about the Honey Toast beforehand and it didn't disappoint! One plate is a big portion for one person so its best to share if you're in a group of 3-4.

Returned to Shokudo after a long hiatus and happy to see that the food & service are still top notch! Known for their Honey Toast & fresh seafood offerings with a casual, welcoming atmosphere Shokudo restaurant does not disappoint. At my last visit our group was greeted at the front and seated almost immediately. Our server April was very sweet and while admitting that she was new, she already had some favorite items on the menu, the Homemade Tofu Salad & Red Eye Roll. We ordered both as well as a few other dishes on the menu. Both of her suggestions were fantastic! The tofu salad is not only delicious, it's also huge and was great to share for our party of three. The service was very attentive, April as well as another server, Alex, answered our questions on some unfamiliar items. Even though April didn't know the entire menu yet, she was happy to check with senior staff and came back with answers and a beaming smile :D When our meal was winding down one of the managers, Karlo, stopped by and suggested the famous Honey Toast for dessert. He joked that some meals both begin and end with Honey Toast, suffice to say, we were sold. I was especially happy to see that it was available with two of my favorite flavors of ice cream, Cookies n Cream, and Green Tea! We will definitely be back.

The deep fried spicy tuna roll was deemed delicious by all at the table (we shared everything). Wife enjoyed her mermaid roll and drank all of my lychee sake. My buddy rated the sushi pizza 6/10. 4/5 stars for the lack of cocktails. Overall we would come back for the great food and friendly service.

We got to Oahu on Valentine's Day and stumbled across Shokudo when we needed a last minute dinner option. They were able to seat us at a high top table between the hostess station and bathroom entrance area. They were busy with reservations shortly after we sat down. Service was friendly, though our order of fried chicken never came. Worked out for us, as we were full by the time we even noticed. Server was apologetic about it. We had the small udon bowl (ok, salty), white tiger roll (good but not memorable), and the rice cake cheese gratin (very good!). The standout was dessert. We had the Valentine's day special, which is their signature Japanese milk toast with a scoop of vanilla and strawberry ice cream, sprinkles, and some strawberries and raspberries. The toast was cut up in bite-sized pieces in the center, drizzled with honey, condensed milk and chocolate sauce. Perfect presentation and tasted really good. Didn't need the sprinkles, which were large, round and too hard. Otherwise, amazing.

Shokudo is always a favorite of mine and my friend. We absolutely love their tofu! Not to mention the fish is always fresh and the staff is always friendly. I would highly recommend trying for lunch and dinner. Don't forget to save room for the honey toast!

Excellent comfort food on the rainy night we went there!

We got the unagi rice, hamachi carpaccio, lobster dynamite, and honey toast. The unagi rice was the highlight, and the honey toast was pretty good as well. The lobster dynamite did not suit our taste and we didn’t like it at all. The service is pretty good and friendly.

This place is very good. I got the Chasu ramen and it was very tasty. The yolk was cooked through which I didn't like, but it was still super yummy. My friends got other dishes and I didn't hear any complaints. Two of my friends got items that were cooked in the stone bowl, that was a really cool experience. I got a yuzu soda. It wasn't sweet at all, but it was very very refreshing. We also got the s'mores honey toast which was also amazing. It was really sweet and crunchy.

What a great experience! Stopped in randomly for some late night eats.We were greeted by a very nice gentleman & seated promptly. Konomi was our waitress, and I must say she honestly completed the entire dinning experience. Even if the food wasn’t amazing I’d return for her! It was late so we opted out of apps, my partner ordered a dynamite roll & I ordered the spicy tuna don - both were exceptional. Konomi upselled us on some dessert & we’re so happy she did! Next time we’re in Honolulu we’ll be back. Thank you Konomi!!

When I called to make a reservation, the lady that I spoke to sounded as if they were all booked and busy. Yet, when I came in to the restaurant, the place was not busy at all. The hostess had the nerve to let us wait outside for 30 minutes when they were tables empty. What happened to the great customer service? Basic 101, you do not let customers wait in line when the restaurant is half empty. Who are you fooling? Never again will I step into that restaurant. Later, the waiter was nice enough to apologized the situation.

Our first time here. The food and the server did not disappoint us! The server was very attentive to our needs and was very polite! Food including the dessert are very palatable.

The best thing about our dining experience was our friendly and efficient server.

Superb Japanese Restaurant in Honolulu. Please give it a try and you will love it as much as we do. They make their own tofu every hour. Sushi and sashimi are very high quality too. But, please don't miss the Homemade Tofu Salad. This dish is why I come back again and again. Sooooo good. Always recommended by diners is the Honey Toast. As you look around, every table is sharing this sweet treat. There is often a line. Don't let that deter you. It's 5 star restaurant in our eyes and worth it.

This was our first time here and we waited over an hour even though they quoted me 30 to 35 minute wait for a walk in. We really wanted to eat Japanese food but I guess with the long wait and the atmosphere being Hot inside our food wasn't as appetizing as we felt when we got there. Just be prepared to pay a lot of money for dinner and wait long for your table if you do not make a reservation.

I really love their crunchy shrimp sushi roll! Every time I eat here I get the best service and everyone is really friendly. You can't leave without trying their honey toast. It will change your life... Overall I'd have to say this is one of my favorite sushi restaurants on island.

I've been to this restaurant many times. They're always busy but I love their food so we always like to come here. The workers are corteous and the ambiance of the dining is reAlly nice <its romantic> ☺️ The only thing negative that i can say is that, their restroom is not neat. There are scattered toilet papers on the floor. They should atleast delegate a person who checks on it more often.

The food was pretty good and the service was on point. I would dine there again.
