Review Scratch Kitchen & Bake Shop - Honolulu

Josh Banfield
Small restaurant with scratch made dishes and a surprisingly great list of cocktails to choose from, get the burgers and a maple bacon old fashioned. We had to wait about 30 minutes for brunch on a Saturday and sat at the counter area which was really nice to see them working in the kitchen. We had both burgers and they were each very good, and I had two old fashioned's which were amazing. Great choice for a meal and a drink in the area.

This is a great family spot, while we visited on a Saturday we were very surprised it wasn’t super busy. We went at the right time! We decided to order some appetizers which was enough for 3! Food: Scratch Chili fries 5/5 this dish was delicious, the chili was delicious I loved that it was not salty! Bacon Mac and cheese 4/5 for my preference wish it had more bacon. Street tacos 4/5 Not bad in taste but a lot of meat for small tacos. Steak bites 4/5 tasty just needs to be cooked medium if you want it to be juicer we ordered medium well. Service: 5/5 Isabel who was our server was very attentive and friendly. She recommended some great dishes and drinks! Will definitely come back. Parking can be a little tricky if you are not Familiar with the area but we were able to park down the block.

We had a party of four. Drinks were Kimchee Bloody Mary, traveling plum margarita, and an Ola Brew vanilla porter. Food selections were crispy mashed potatoes, escargot, Lilikot pork ribs, Grandma's fried pork chop pasta, Scratch House burger, and Creole shrimp n' sausage grits, and a south shore cobb salad with chicken. The food was good, my burger was cooked to perfection, medium. Everyone else seemed very happy with their selections. Be aware, there is a 4% "kitchen appreciation charge". However, a tip selection is up to you. Bottom line, food and service by Jasmine were satisfactory.

My son chose Scratch for his birthday lunch. The food was good, but nothing great. I did enjoy the chicken apple pasta and my son had me try the Kim chee Bloody Mary, oh that was winnahz and I don't like tomato juice. We sat right where they put out the food, which I thought was weird since you could see everyone's food before it got to their table and service was ok. Although I had a couple of refills on my coffee, I did want more, but she stopped offering and brought the check without she asking if we wanted anything else. I don't like feeling rushed and asked for more coffee. We left when I felt I was done and ready to leave.

Great family spot. Chicken and waffles and the Octopus street taco are amazing. French toast. And what is a kitchen appreciation charge(4%)?? Wow. Be aware....

Amazing restaurant that serve southern food 🥘. The food is great all the time and taste nice. The service is so perfect and welcoming like your home. The location is easy to find with a lot of parking 🅿️ space. For sure I should try this place …😉

I have difficult food allergies. The servers and kitchen were knowledgeable about what I couldn't eat - I appreciate that they didn't try to give me something that would make me sick just in an attempt to feed me. Plus, they worked with me to substitute what I couldn't eat with something I could without charging me extra. When the kitchen did make a mistake, my server noticed immediately. Also, aside from my allergies, food can still make me sick, but I never had any stomach issues after eating here! We ate here every day following the first time because it is difficult to find a restaurant where I don't get sick. There were lots of tastey options for the rest of the party to enjoy :). Look for parking at "South Shore Market". There is a free garage.

Great place and fun atmosphere. All the waitstaff are very attentive and your water/coffee is always filled. The food is fun and flavorful.

Let me tell you I've never been so torn about leaving a review before! On one hand the food and service was so amazing I want to shout from the rooftops BUT I also want to keep it a secret so it doesn't get flooded with patrons and I can go back! I'm literally typing this review sitting on the side of the bed with my jeans pulled down to my ankles because I'm so full I was afraid my button was going full projectile at any moment! This was by far the best experience we had in our 4 days here so far!! The hostess and manager were so warm and inviting from the start! Then we had a wonderful server but everyone really helps each other so there is never a moment where you feel ignored! Now the food... Escargot was better than some 5 star French restaurants I've been to, bone marrow to die for, garlic shrimp 🔥. And a pork chop that was thick and juicy while being crispy! We will definitely be going back!

My sister and I were already in town & too lazy to make dinner, so we decided to give this place a try. It was delicious. She had barbacoa tacos and I had a bacon burger. It was cooked to my liking and was soo juicy. It was very filling as well. I definitely would go there again! I want to try their brunch dishes next.

Atmosphere was great. The group enjoyed watching the cooks do their work with the open kitchen. Service was also great with a friendly staff. We were seated right away. Everything we ordered was excellent. This was the best dining experience we had over our first 5 days on Oahu. We ordered the deep fried deviled eggs, braised pork belly with apple noodles, ahi salad, and the Scratch burger for dinner with the brulee French toast and cereal pancake for dessert. Big portions, big flavors. Highly recommend.

This was a nice breakfast place ,clean and staff was very friendly. They served some nice comfort food. But I was surprised not to see a Omelet on the menu of a breakfast place. That was the first for me.

I can see why this place is frequently visited and busy. The food was delicious. Our party ordered the Scratch Loco Moco with Adobo Pork & Gandule Rice; the Brulee'd French Toast with a side of Pork Belly; and the Steak & Eggs. I added the pork belly with my French toast and together I thought it was just The PERFECT mix of savory and sweet. The service is attentive and friendly. The atmosphere and interior is nice and clean. I recommend coming here For Sure. Tips for the restaurant: Call for reservations for dinner time anything after 3PM to closing which is 9PM and brunch, which starts after opening at 8 or 9AM (depending on the day) is first come first served for seating. Anticipate longer wait times for more people.

Very nice, small brunch location! The staff were friendly and the food is good! The chicken and waffles were ok. I loved the chicken but the waffle was basic. My friend got the shrimp and grits and he said it was amazing! It definitely looked like it was good but I don’t eat pork so I couldn’t try it😔 the drinks were tasty but not strong. I’ll definitely go back to try other things in the menu

I absolutely adore this breakfast spot in Honolulu! The atmosphere is fantastic—inviting and charming. A must-try is their French toast, an absolute delight. Another personal favorite is the calentado—it never disappoints. Coffee lovers will appreciate their cold brew with coffee ice cubes; a delightful bonus. However, a word of caution, the cold brew packs quite a punch—it's very strong. Overall, a top pick for a delicious and energizing breakfast experience!

Love the quality of the food here! The brussel sprouts were cooked to be crispy and carmelized beautifully. The Scratch loco moco with pork adobo and sunny side egg made me feel nostalgic as a Filipino! The garlic rice was wasn't too overpowering. The pork was flavorful and not too heavy for brunch. Service at this restaurant was also great at answering any questions and fulfilling any special requests I had. I would definitely come back again next time I'm in Honolulu.

Love Brian & love Scratch. When I’m ready for a kimchi Bloody Mary, I head to Scratch. We are always greeted kindly & seated as quickly as possible. I love to sit at the bar & watch the kitchen in action. It’s impressive to see them prep a plate. The Elvis was THE best French toast I have ever had. Shrimp & grits are delicious. Honestly, there isn’t anything I don’t like. Come to Scratch. Say hi to Brian for me!

Freakin WOW! First time and loved it! What an absolutely deliciously satiating brunch! Shrimp and grits...with andouille sausage, egg over easy and onions - spectacular! Add a side order of boudin fritters. My wife had pork belly and apple pasta with goat cheese and a fried egg and she loved hers, too. Cocktails were good as stand-alone - interesting. But I'd recommend a mixologist to come up with new drink recipes to be recommended as drinks that pair better with the dishes.

Food. Amazing. Atmosphere. Amazing. Service. Amazing. Music. Amazing. Brian and his crew have something truly special going on. As a musician, I feel at home with the Scratch family and their great customers. As a fat person, I recommend everything on the menu! I have only the best things to say about this place!

It probably wasn’t the best decision to come in right before they closed in the afternoon. I got the burger. The burger was over cooked and the potatoes were under cooked. Definitely wasn’t impressed. However, I have eaten here before for breakfast and it was delicious. I would go again, but maybe earlier and I would order something different. Didn’t care for the burger.

Love this place!!! The menu is amazing and I haven't tried anything I haven't loved! The wait staff is so attentive! My water glass never emptied. Everyone was great about giving recommendations and they were spot on with those! Love the new location too! Beautifully done!

I’m not a grits lover but the creole shrimp and grits was outstanding. Muffuletta sandwich was spicy but good and those potatoes worth eating on their own. Great brunch place. Service was some kind of wonderful too.

Great menu, that's well prepared! My favorite brunch spot on Oahu. There's typically a wait but it's worth it, check in and do some shopping in Chinatown, and finish with a great meal.

By far, the best gourmet breakfast food we've ever had. We are currently on Norwegian cruise ship where the food isn't even a 10th as good as yours.

We came in today to celebrate Mother's day, the food was amazingly delicious, and the service was top notch. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and we will come back.

I have been there three times in the last two days and I am ready to go again. The food is wonderful and the service is amazing. I can’t say enough great things about this place!

Great food! The service was awesome. My husbands food came out before mine. They gave us cookies and a scone for the wait on my Elvis French Toast. They even ended up taking my plate off our ticket because of the wait. We were sitting at the counter and watched them make everything. We didn't mind waiting. The staff was friendly. 5 out of 5 & we will probably go again next week! The pulled pork grits were delicious! Keep in mind it is a small restaurant, there may be a wait. But it's also a bakery, grab yourself something sweet while you wait. You'll be happy you did!

Without question a favorite! Menu is diverse, and everything is delicious - the open kitchen concept adds to the dining experience.

Fabulous food and service. Everything we had was wonderful. Poutine, deviled eggs, cauliflower, Burger, pasta and chicken all so flavorful. Although I didn't care for the tiramisu. But the chocolate chip bread pudding is a amazing . Can't wait to try the breakfast

Went with a family party of 7 and waited about 10 minutes for a table. Seating is limited but turnover is pretty quick. Our group had great breakfast items: SOD- Oyster Benedict, Calentado, Brunchwich, BST Benny and Milk n Cereal Pancakes. All well-received and prompt. Great meal. In and out with no drama. Recommended.

Excellent service. Menu had something for everyone and some pretty unique choices. Definitely recommend
