Review Surf N Turf Tacos - Honolulu

Tee Cakes
This is a straightforward, no-nonsense place to enjoy a speedy meal. The shrimp taco plate boasts freshness and delightful flavors, but what truly stands out is the garlic-infused rice. The only drawback? Battling the birds at the outdoor tables – quite the amusing challenge! 😄

Fresh made tacos and bowls. I love the beer battered fish tacos!! Light, flaky fish with a great crunchy batter. It takes 10 min to cook and prep but so worth the wait and money! Choice of garlic, cilantro or dirty rice if you do the plate. Also black or pinto beans. And try the taro tortillas! Very light and fun purple color! The guacamole is not spicy but has good flavor... No chunks of onions or peppers.

The tacos are delicious at Surf n Turf Tacos. The atmosphere is nothing fancy. The service was friendly and there were a few tables outside to enjoy the food. The fish tacos were made to order with plenty of delicious toppings.

I wanted a quick late night meal that I could take back to my hotel room and this was a perfect choice. Fast, counter service with friendly employees. I ordered the chicken nachos and the portion was gigantic. Good value for the portion size. Great flavor, loved the salsa. I had wanted to get lettuce as a topping, but all that was available was very limp, iceberg that didn't look fresh. Overall a great place for quick Mexican food near the beach.

The food was really good. We had 2 tacos - beer battered fish and panko crusted shrimp tacos and a vegetarian nacho plate with a side of their Da House and Habanero sauce. It was super flavorful and would highly recommend. Took us 5 minutes and the plate was almost done. Service was quick and very polite. ❤️❤️❤️

Got the breaded fish tacos. They were delicious. The refried beans have a smoky taste to them, interesting but good. Overall, great little hole in the wall with good prices for Waikiki

I don't know what it is, but some places in Honolulu don't have employees who provide service despite being in the service industry. My wife wanted to try the food here from the first day we arrived in the Waikiki area. We finally made the trip before we left. However, my wife wasn't sure what to order. Normally, in situations like this, the service people would offer suggestions like "our chicken is most popular" or "if you like spicy, try the..." or whatever. Not here. Just blank stares as my wife struggled to decide what to get. Aside from the service, the food was okay. I personally didn't have any. My wife said it was fine. My daughter didn't want to try any. Not sure why she wasn't interested.

PROs: Food was tasty and great. Extensive menu. Drinks available. Moderately priced. I returned a second time because the first time was so enjoyable. Friendly staff. I had the ahi dos tacos on my first visit and the grilled shrimp tacos on my second visit. Both times, the food was AMAZING. I am so happy I stopped by and would visit again if/when I visit Waikiki in the future. CONs: the shop is smokey. Prices are quite high. Minimal seating (there are two picnic tables outside the shop and that is all that is available) so prepare to take away to your hotel if seating is full. No indoor seating available.

Didn't think it'd be in Hawaii but the best Mexican food I've ever had! We had the shrimp tacos and the fried potatoes and the flavor was so on point! Though there may be a language barrier sometimes, the guys helping us were super nice!! The price is soooo good for the phenomenal food!! Highly recommended!

Food was really good but they nickel and dime you for everything. They charge you for salsa, sour cream, etc. The only thing that's free is the napkin.

Great choice if you're planning to stay in for the evening; we grabbed our tacos and brought them back to our hotel room. A bit pricy for two tacos, but they did give us plenty of meat and very flavorful. Should be enough to fill you up for about $10/person. The pinged location on the map is wrong. It should be on the south end of that block, to the right of Marugame if you are looking straight at it.

The food is nice. I ordered the breakfast burrito that has chorizo and eggs. Nice portion size. The place is also chill if you want to relax for a while. Service could be improved. Overall, I wasn't let down or disappointed.

Surf N Turf Tacos at Surf N Turf restaurant are an absolute revelation for the taste buds! These tacos take the concept of fusion cuisine to a whole new level, combining the best of both worlds – succulent seafood and flavorful meats. The first bite is a delightful surprise, as you’re met with a burst of freshness from the ocean. The seafood in these tacos is nothing short of spectacular. The perfectly grilled shrimp, tender pieces of lobster, and flaky fish are impeccably seasoned, creating a harmonious symphony of flavors that dance on your palate. What truly sets these tacos apart, however, is the skillful incorporation of turf elements. The smoky, charred steak or tender pulled pork adds a satisfying depth to the tacos, creating a balance that’s simply irresistible. The textures and tastes complement each other in a way that showcases the chef’s culinary genius. But it’s not just about the fillings. The taco shells themselves are a work of art – crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, providing the ideal vessel for holding these delectable ingredients. Plus, the fresh toppings and zesty sauces elevate the experience to a whole new level of gastronomic delight. Whether you’re a seafood lover, a meat aficionado, or someone who appreciates the perfect fusion of flavors, Surf N Turf Tacos are a must-try. They encapsulate the essence of Surf N Turf restaurant’s commitment to culinary excellence, making each bite a journey through a world of taste and texture. Don’t miss out on this unforgettable taco experience!

For those in the mood for no frills Mexican food...this is the spot. Food is tasty, price point is a bit high for being no frills but given that the location is so central and convenient, it's worth it! The portion size is very reasonable. Their refried beans are pretty good. This is worth a try if you're in the mood for authentic, no frills Mexican.

I came to Hawaii for some interesting food. I found some here across from the Honolulu Marketplace. I have a thing for fish tacos, and this is the place. I absolutely loved the taro tortilla option. Do not pass on this. The tacos were excellent. I minus one star because it is one if those build your taco with too many choices. My advice? You are the chef. Have a menu that features what you think pairs. #1, #2 ect. The build your own is too complex, and leads to sauces and salsas that should be on top of the taco, not underneath. The tacos were really good and such, but have pre set combos that make it easier to order. That said, they were delicious and one of the highlights of my trip. The garlic rice was banging too.

A MUST TRY in Waikiki! 5 star customer service 5 star freshness & quality 5 star flavor My husband and I ordered 2 taco plates. 1 Kalbi + 1 Chicken Ube Tortillas + Corn Tortillas Black Beans & Cilantro Rice for both SO SO GOOD! It was our 1st time and everyone was very helpful, friendly and had GREAT GREAT customer service! This restaurant is a counter service restaurant that offers outdoor dining, but we enjoyed our food at our hotel which was a less than 2min walk away.

Decent spot for relatively cheap Mexican food on Kuhio just north of the Waikiki Beach area. The quesadilla was good, but the vegetarian taco was just filled with...vegetables...Was expecting something like tofu as a filler. Overall would rate Surf N Turf 4/5.

First time here, food is amazing. Like chipotle but 20x better. We had the garlic shrimp rice bowl and beer battered fish tacos. Ordered on doordash, service was extremely quick on a Tuesday night close to closing time.

Little bit of a wait - had a line almost out the door, but these beer battered fish tacos, and some of the other meats, are made fresh to order. Some of the best tacos I've ever had in my life. Wifey got a chicken torta which was amazing. Definitely recommend!

We love This place since it opened. We travel the planet in search of the best fish tacos and this is in our top 3 for sure. The poke taco is my favorite! Staff is very helpful and willing to cater to your needs even though they are very busy. A must stop in Oahu!
Bao Thao Ra-el
Very easy-going, personable, patient & efficient staff especially knowing how busy they get during peak hours where the line would be almost 20 feet out the door. Their customizeable rice bowls are the best value and we appreciate how generous they were with their regular count of grilled shrimp (since typical restaurants only give you about an average of 6). Since our family doesn't eat red meat, this was the main place we frequented multiple times during our 6-day vacation, so much that they gave us a punch card for our visits. Their grilled fish was very flavorful as well. It's a small spot but their music choice kept me in good company. We will definitely go there again when we return to Waikiki! Thank you guys!

Great staff! Regardless how busy, they are both personable and friendly. I had the Chorizo and Egg breakfast burrito - best I've ever had. I will definitely go back!

first i had kalbi carnitas Taco combo the second day I had the crispy fish kalbi dos combo and I will be back probably twice more this week best deal in Waikiki for 10 bucks and they're awesome

Great food, terrible service. The wait is really bad, and the staff is very slow/ disorganized. Really could be an awesome place if someone was running it properly.
Leslie Ross
Kalbi Tacos and Garlic Shrimp Tacos day one, Steak Tacos and Veg Burrito day two. Good food, a bit pricy and salty but what's a swollen finger or 2?
Robert Porec
The food was really good and large portions. Prices are a little high for Mexican food but it's in Waikiki so expected. Staff was nice.

First place we stop to to get a shrimp burritos. Everything was fresh and delicious

Ordered the Cajun chicken, the special of the day and there wasn't anything Cajun about this chicken. It was just baked chicken with some type of cream sauce on it.
Barbara Backer Austin
Loved it and had to go back the next day for more beer battered fish on taro shells with Chipotle.......mmmmmmm
Frank Javier Cuéllar

Allie Perkins
Seriously my favorite place to eat in Oahu. Being from Texas, I love tacos & this place just took it to a whole new level with their beer battered fish tacos. Can't wait to go back!!

We came here pretty much at closing time but the young lass was still happy to serve us. He was so friendly and such a nice guy! We were meant to be last orders but then a couple of American guys came along and begged him to serve them, he was too nice to turn them away so he let them in also. I had the grilled fish tacos, tasted great with fresh ingredients. Highly recommend!

Delicious tacos! I had a taco plate (1 x chicken, 1 x fried shrimp) - fried shrimp taco was insane! Also some loaded fries which were so tasty! I spent about $12 on my meal. The portion was a good size, staff were really friendly and the tacos were really tasty and quick. I’ll be going back!

Garlic grilled shrimp tacos were amazing! Rice are not that great. It’s a subway styled Mexican food, you choose your own toppings. Staff was pleasant and polite.

Loved this place, the food is amazing, dosnt look like much but dont let that fool you.

I went there 4 or 5 times when i was in Hawaii recently and cannot recommend it highly enough.
Jacinta Pennacchia
Amazing tacos - highly recommend their beer battered fish and the grilled shrimp! Best seafood tacos I've tasted.
So glad we found this place early on in our stay in Waikiki because it meant we could keep coming back!
Walked passed and could smell the tacos wafting through the air.

I had the grilled fish taco and beer battered fish taco with chipotle sauce they looked exactly like the picture they had posted on the wall.

The beer battered fish is the most delicious taco ever!! They are made fresh and to order.

The steak quesadilla was very cheesy and hit the mark too.

There is both limited seating both indoors and outdoors.

I only gave them a 4 as from a service perspective saying "What do you want?" Is not good customer service.

Stopped here for a taco lunch. Two tacos for $10. I had two chicken. My date had two fish tacos.

The establishment is a small store resembling a Subway. While it passed the health board inspection, you won't be overwhelmed by cleanliness. There are a couple tables inside and a couple out on the streets. The place is busy enough that the two counter employees rely on customers to buss their tables.

Again, think Subway as they build your tacos in front of you. They are street tacos on your choice of flour or corn tortillas. Guacamole is extra.

I chose flour for my chicken tacos. With extra jalapeños. The flavor was good. The tortilla a little cold though.

My date enjoyed her fish taco on corn tortillas. The flavor was okay, nothing special.

I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. If I were walking by and wanted a street taco, I would stop and have a couple.

The portions here are over the top! Waikiki is a shopping mecca with high end stores aplenty, and everything there seems to comes with the price-tag to match, even the food. However, Surf N Turf Tacos is one place where you can definitely get your money's worth. Before we stopped here, I read a few reviews and they were quite mixed, but I'm really glad we decided to go for it. It was located very near where we were staying, so we picked up a burrito and a salad bowl and took them back to our hotel to eat. The service was very friendly, and the food was fresh, hot, and plentiful. In fact, if we had known ahead of time how ginormous our order would be, we would have split a single item - as it was, the leftovers were plenty for a couple of generous snacks for each of us. There have lots of vegetarian options, and we especially recommend the Grilled Veggie Burrito.
DianaW
We came here for a snack & we wanted the vegetarian tacos. Can you believe they were out of roasted vegetables? Actually the tacos here looked better than what we copped at La Cucaracha, & a lot cheaper, so its a pity they happened to be out of vegetables!!
Rin
DELICIOUS! They make your taco "subway style" so you get to decide exactly what and how much goes on your taco/burrito. I got a pankocrusted shrimp burrito with steak on it and it was 13$.. So big I ate half and took the rest back to my hotel and then ate it later for another meal. Great price for great tasting food, and the customer service was awesome. Everyone there was so happy and treated me very well. Definitely coming back there before I leave HI!

Courtesy goes a long way.. The food is marginal at best. The most remarkable thing about the place is the strong indifference the staff presents to diners. I would describe the taco makers as juvenile delinquents with a chip on their shoulder and SO put out to be where they are. If the place lasts more than a year, it's because they will have the unsuspecting one-time tourist customers coming through for their plate of disappoinent. Customer service and courtesy can make up for bad food, but average food will never make up for sloppy slacker service.

I don't believe for a second that these reviews are for real.. Unfortunately, this is not good eats. 12 dollars for 2 tacos, rice and beans should at minimum have:

* WARMTH to the meat/fish. This indicates that it's freshly prepared food, not thrown on the grill to warm up for a customer.

* TASTE of the dish. No part of the ingredient should overpower any other ingredient in the dish. In both my case and my wife's case the key taste was salt. This is not OK for a 12 dollar dish.

* A COMPLETE ORDER. In this case, both my wife and I had incorrect orders. I will not elaborate, but I will say it was wrong.

In summarization; If you like the taste of food, don't go. Seriously, don't. This for some reason is popular, and I guess I will never know why. DON'T DO THIS.

Best mexican food in hawaii!! I had so much mediocre food in Hawaii it was great to find authentic mexican food i will be back for sure!!
GoodFood
Delicious! Awesome battered fish tacos. Get the veggie taco or battered fish! Skip the shrimp taco--too much breading. The line for Udon on the same block was outrageous--come here instead!
Cheryl
The food here is great! We would
Recommend it
We travel to Mexico often and the salsa, chips, and guac here are yummy
We had the chicken quesadilla and my hubby had burritos
Jane
Great fish tacos! Loved the churos too. Chips not so fresh and service not so fast but would totally go back!

Would have been nice to eat there if they would have been open... Maybe you should update your hours or open when your hours say you are going to be open!
