Review Herringbone Waikiki - Honolulu

Mark Darwin
Fantastic food, great service, beautiful decor, and a fantastic happy hour menu. Interesting drinks, the $3 oysters, and the discounted Brussels sprouts make this a fantastic happy hour destination! Legitimately delicious food. Went here twice and enjoyed it both times. Located on the 3rd floor of the International Mall, and worth a visit!

Loving the decorations and the open concept. Customer service is fantastic 5 stars for sure, unfortunately I forgot the 2 young lovely girls name who waited on us, the sea food was great, drinks are really good, my only complaint was the Tomahawk steak, a bit dry and not juicy, for $220 a steak I would have expected better quality. Other then that yes I would recommend this Restaurant.

A great upscale restaurant in Waikiki. The menu is Californian, Hawaiian seafood forward. The chicken wings and truffle mash potatoes were exceptional. The rest of our food was really good too. Service was good, they were staff challenged but our waiter really made a huge effort to make up for it. Would definitely go back

I ordered the Black Cod marinated in yuzu & soy with black rice pilaf in a carrot/ginger reduction. Hubby had the crab cake (plain) with fries (plain). Black cod is a favorite fish of mine. Cooked well and the yuzu/soy marinade complimented the fish really well. I was not a fan of the black rice pilaf w/carrot & ginger reduction. The taste oddly reminded me of cooked red cabbage. Crab cake: my hubby loves crab cakes. He enjoyed the crab cake from Herringbone because he was able to simply taste the crab meat without binders or fillers. The fries were cooked well & not greasy. The atmosphere was great and had live music.

I searched up “bar patio” and found this place. What clinched it was the seafood focus. We have been to other places in the International Marketplace 3rd floor in previous years visiting Oahu. We ordered 2 appetizers and shared a main. The sashimi-style appetizers did not disappoint. Our favorite was the hamachi crudo with the truffle and yuzu vinaigrette and small diced crunch (yum). I also loved the micro green usage (chiso , cilantro?) for the hamachi and lobster. Hats off to the mixologist for well-crafted cocktails. I personally steer away from creamy/fruity drinks so I was happy with the grapefruit/rosemary margarita and the blood orange (whisky) sour. I would come back again! Mahalo.

This place is solid! Great selection, fresh food, solid service, good energy/vibes, good location! Instagram: How do mussels communicate? Food and atmosphere was absolutely amazing. I felt for the waiters; there was only two on the floor servicing the whole place. You could see and hear the frustration from them. Even with that, they remained pleasant and gave us the best experience possible. My friend and I ordered the “Skiff” to share. It was amazing! The seafood was so fresh! I will definitely come back. Hopefully they can take care the issue of lack of servers so the experience can be better!

A night of dining at Herringbone was really good. The server and hostess were awesome. The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and very helpful when the kitchen ran out of wagyu beef for our surf and turf orders.. they subbed with prime Rib, which was good also. The wagyu beef melts in your mouth, the lobster w sauce was yummy, and the side were good. The drinks were ok, wasn't motivated to order another. FYI, the restaurant is located on the 3rd floor inside of the mall, so I sure their is parking, but it was walking distance from where we resided.

My mother & I were visiting Hawaii and came across this restaurant shopping. It's a beautiful atmosphere. There was live music, a trendy ambience, and great service. We had the perfect waiter, he came over to the table just enough w/out being intrusive whatsoever and was very knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. The chef came over and spoke with us to ask if everything was good and were we enjoying the special salad he had created for us. That made Herringbone Waikiki all the more special that he took the time to make sure it was a good experience we were having. I always appreciate when the chef or owner comes to greet you. Whenever in Honolulu I definitely recommend stopping in, they did not disappoint.

We swung by for happy hour (after 9pm on Friday) and had a great experience. Ambiance was great and the servers were very on top of it. We had the fish tacos, tater tots, and beef hot stone. All of it was great and we certainly plan on coming back!

We went here to celebrate an elopement! The service was phenomenal! The food menu was vast and the food itself was stellar! Thank you so much for making this memorable day even better with a 5 star meal! Pricy but worth it. The ambiance is so quaint and natural.

I thought I had written a review on this place, but I guess not! This is one of the prettiest restaurants in my opinion. This time we came for the honey's bday. I'll have to admit, I wanted to come here so I booked this place instead of a steakhouse. Luckily, he wasn't upset. We came a little early before our dinner reservations so we can have the HH oysters. Honestly, they are on the smaller portion. You cannot beat Canada or the PNW for oysters. However, the accompaniments were nice enough. They were out of tater tots so we had the shoestring fries with salmon roe. It was just ok for us. I ordered the miso salmon and it was delish. I asked for it to be as rare as possible and they did not disappoint. The kid had the salmon salad which was excellent w flavor. I will definitely order this neck time. The hon ordered the risotto which was rich and flavorful. His only qualm is that it did not have a protein you can add to it. He would have loved some chicken tossed in (he's had that elsewhere so that's the comparison). I was luckily enough to obtain a free oyster shoot for a Yelp check-in (thanks Yelp!) and it was an explosion of flavors! The ambiance is what gets me as it's so pretty. Eat on the lanai if you can. Because we were obtaining HH items as well, we were obligated to sit inside. Service can be slow at times but overall I love this restaurant and will continue to patronize it. Parking was $2 with validation.

Mauro was an amazing waiter. I celebrated my boyfriend's mom's birthday. There was complimentary strawberry cake for the birthday woman. They answered all our questions about the menu very well and very thoroughly. Super sweet and accommodating. Food was well prepared. The mentaiko pasta did take a long time to come out compared to the rest of our food but it was still very good.

Amazing atmosphere! Great servers, delicious food!!! Try the buccattini seafood pasta - amazing!!! Burrata Beets salad also way to go if you don’t want to overfill with appetizers 🙌🌺🏄🏼‍♀️ Mahalo!

Delicious, beautifully presented dishes. Pricier side (1 ~4" diameter crab cake for $21). 6 of us with some drinks, appetizers, main course was about $80/person with tip. Like the patio dining and natural plant decor but it was noisy so hard to have a conversation with normal speaking voices. Misoyaki Salmon main course was delightful. Vegan Hamakua Mushroom Risotto was great. Unfortunately, the restaurant was out of a number of items on the menu like all the flatbreads, the Tomahawk steak for 2, the pudding dessert.

Food and ambiance is great. Short staffed. Have to ask for water twice. There hardly any staff on the floor esp on the days that it was pretty packed. The seafood tower is so good and fresh!!!! Ordered surf and turf that definitely did not disappoint!!!! Will definitely come back.

1/2023 Some thought this place was closed. It's alive and well. Friendly staff, nice Happy Hour Menu, convenient and ample validated parking. Food is creative and varied for most tastes. It's not simple food but very much so worth a try. Atmosphere alone makes for a pleasant experience. Again, variety is the spice of life on the menu. Entertainment on Mondays. ✌️

Our family came here for our last dinner during our vacation and I have to say it was the best experience. The plating and the flavor of the foods we ordered was perfect. Especially the Seafood Pasta and Seared Duck Breast was the best I've ever had. The prices were not cheap, but it was worth it! The restaurant closed at 9:00 pm on a Sunday and we were late to our appointment. We had to stay well over 9 pm to finish our food, but not once we were rushed. Our server Jenner was the best server we ever met, and she definitely made our experience 10 times better. Thank you!

Artfully prepared seafood dishes, paired with a nice wine selection. Avoid the wait and sit instead at the bar high tops.

Herringbone makes the list of top 10 meals I’ve had in my life. I had numerous dinners in NYC, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, across Italy, France, Spain, Turkey and Switzerland but this topped them. The atmosphere was superb. Comfortable, yet beautiful and spacious. It has just the right amount of lighting that would work for a business dinner or a romantic night out. From the moment we walked through the door the entire staff was accommodating. They all had true smiles on their faces, making me feel like they enjoyed working at Herringbone. Amanda, our server, was stunning. She had the perfect mix of kindness, conversation and information while giving us time to enjoy ourselves as well. Her and her team of server assistants, food runners, and bartender were on top of our every need and well informed about the food they were serving. The food, which to me is still the most important was divine. The presentation of every dish was thought out and the portion sizes were large. The whole lobster came at a very reasonable price of 35.00 and was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The tomato and burrata salad had tomatoes with good flavor, which is hard to come by in Hawaii! While the burrata melted in our mouths as it should. Nothing was over salted. The chef must buy quality food and allow its natural flavor to do its job. We also had the whole fish of the night, which was an Opakapaka (pink snapper) that had been lightly fried. It was delicious as well and fed us both!

We just happend to walk into this place as it looked very appealing from the outside and we were fed up of eating at yawacha. Then we find out it's the same owners and we're ready for another cullernary experience!! The food was simple but exquisite with fish 🐟 that's been perfectly cooked. Most of all the manager made our dinner very special as he comped a dish and really knew his stuff about food which was a delight!! Great place and fantastic decor cooking from London UK 🇬🇧 I'm spoilet but this was worth the money 💰 ✨✨✨✨✨

Great atmosphere and for the most part the food was delicious. This was a last minute Easter Brunch for us . The meal was pre fixe 3 course, appetizer, entree , and dessert with a few choices for each. Our first issue came with the avacado toast which is not.even.close to being avacado toast. I almost didn’t taste avacado at all, so maybe they could name it after the other 5 or 6 overpowering flavors on the toast, anything except avacado. The asparagus bisque appetizer was pretty good but it was finished with an excessive amount of truffle oil. This could be a personal taste, but 3/3 of us had the same opinion. For the entree, I had the onaga,my daughter had the chimichurri steak, and my other daughter had the quiche. The fish was especially delicious, the steak had no complaints but the quiche, while delicious, was an exceptionally small serving. The proportions of each meal were not similar at all. My daughter’s were finished eating an uncomfortable amount of time before I made it through my meal which was noticeably larger than both of theirs. ( I felt like I needed to share my meal because they didn’t get enough) Lastly, dessert was delicious! We had the chocolate mousse (cake?) One of my daughters found a piece of plastic on her dessert, but it was taken care of by our waiter. Overall I would definitely come back, however if I have as many missteps at the second visit, that might change things.

We booked in to Herringbone as a special treat (compliments of my amazing Mum!) while on holiday in Waikiki, and we weren't disappointed. We started with Better Mules & Gardens and Wings. The Mules were really nice, not too sweet and very refreshing. The wings were deliciously crispy and frenched, making them very easy to eat one handed. With pickled veg, crushed peanuts, and peanut sauce it was the perfect start to the evening and generous enough to share. Next came the Sailboat platter and a couple of glasses of the Justin Sauv Blanc, which complimented the seafood nicely. Most seafood platters back home bulk it out with hot fried food like chips, fish ect, but this was two layers of deliciously fresh, cold seafood with 6 sauces and vinaigrettes. Everything was great, and this was our first time eating King Crab - wow! I've never had such massive, meaty, crab legs and claws. What better way to finish the evening that to be surprised with a complimentary chocolate tart saying Love Mum after she sent them a lovely message on FB.

Amazing small dishes! Pricy but every dish is bursting with great flavors! Well worth the money! Must try the fish tacos and the oyster happy hour every day for $2 oysters from 4-6pm

I loved this place for girls night. We came on a Saturday early around 4 for happy hour which was great then stayed for dinner which started at 5. The death by potatoes was my favorite so good definitely a portion size for two though. Let be music was amazing and great service.

Where do I even start? Food is beyond amazing and service is great! Our waiter was very friendly and informative. We ordered the California Toast, Oyster which you can choose either East or West or both, Tuna Tacos, Ceveche Tostada, and their signature dish which is the Octupus with spicy buffalo sauce. I won't go into details with the price because my boyfriend and I really enjoyed ourselves and made our anniversary memorable.

The first time we went we loved this place, we recently went back and the service was bad! I had to flag a waiter down in order to get service! The waiter and wait help kept passing our table but no one came to take our order. The octopus shrank from 6 oz to 3 oz! Plus the power went off while we were there. We will not be returning.

Beautiful restaurant with great service and interesting food. I would recommend the octopus, whole fish sashimi, trout salad, hearts of palm salad and the Brussel sprouts with pecans. The specialty cocktails were just ok. The fried whole fish entree was disappointing and over priced. Very little fish for 45.00 and little presentation.

The food was great! The service was not. Very inexperienced staff. We ordered drinks. They didnt come. The waiter said "The bartender is backed up. Would you like to order dinner now ?" What???

Happy Hour was very happy yesterday. We ordered every dish on your menu and were wowed by the presentation and flavors. Oh, and thanks for supergreat service from everyone. First visit, but won't be the last!

Buffalo octopus and oysters on the half shell are a must have!! Very friendly staff, 1 man acoustic entertainment while we were there that was great to listen to, and great atmosphere.

After a month after Herringbone opened we went for Happy hour. The portions were good... went there recently and noticed that the buffalo tako portion went from 6oz. to 3oz... same price. We won't be going to Herringbone anymore... Also, we waited over 10- minutes after being seated for someone to take our order... Disappointed!

Decided to try this place for girls night since none of us ever ate here before. We are all glad we did because the food was amazing! We only tried the happy hour menu but all of it was great! Can’t beat the $2 oysters! The drinks on the happy hour was just okay.... I’d like to see more of a variety. Will definitely be back! 😋💯🙌🏼 #3girlsdowntown

We are really happy that we chose Herringbone to celebrate Father's Day. The wonderful Ambience, service, and food....everything was perfect. Honestly, when I tried to get reservations (5 weeks early)we tried to go to a Kahala restaurant ...completely booked. So I called Halekulani....also completely booked with 60 people on a wait list. So I googled and researched...stumbled on Herringbone Waikiki..and got reservations for 6. Good for me. Next time...we know where to call. Herringbone Waikiki ♡♡♡

The food and service was exceptional. The oysters were fresh and plump. The wings were delicious. My Salmon Wellington, the special of the night, was cooked to perfection with a green curry sauce. I finished the meal off with house made white chocolate mac nut cookies with horchata. Yum!
