Review Mahina And Sun's - Honolulu

Erin Anderson
We stumbled upon this restaurant looking for vegetarian options and Mahina & Sun’s was amazing! Live music, great food, and great service. Mikey, our server was fabulous. The band was so talented and made the atmosphere feel very welcoming. We ordered the avocado tacos, kale salad, and my husband ordered the swordfish. It was delicious!

This was a delight. The atmosphere was peaceful and pleasant. Dinner around a pool with the ceiling open to the beautiful Hawaiian night sky. You could feel the gentle breezes. The service of Mikey was genuine. He was very friendly and made each table feel like we were the only people in the room. He knew the menu items and helped us make good choices. The drinks were smooth and tasty. Food was exquisite. They had live entertainment, it was a joy to listen to Hawaiian music while dining. The music wasn't too loud so you still have conversation. The only small drawback was the hostess that seated us, she was not very pleasant and did not fit in with the great experience that we received later. All in all, it did not overshadow a wonderful dinning experience.

Breakfast and dinner were delightful! We enjoyed every dish. Each dish had some local elements that made it special and made me appreciate them after my Hawai’i trip ended. The restaurant is in a cute beach theme, designed fashionably on every corner, great for pictures. Highlights of our meal: - Avocados Taco was surprisingly good. I didn’t think fried avocado would be good, but it did! - The pork chop with coconut milk with lomi tomato vinaigrette sauce was so tasty that I was sipping it by itself. - Waffle was made like a Belgian style. The texture was slightly crisp on the outside, yet soft and fluffy on the inside. - Perfectly ripped 1/2 papaya was sweet and yummy, perfect for after a meal. - Guava mimosa was good!

As one of our last meals in Hawaii, we wanted something local and special. We got the family feast for 6 (there were six of us), two Thai snapper fish and two dozen oysters. It was a bit too much honestly. We could've been happy with just 4 family feasts for the six of us. The fish was good but it wasn't amazing. The sides were great but nothing really stood out to me. The best part of the meal was the oysters. They were super fresh and delicious. In total for six people we spent about $450USD which was quite pricey. Not sure if we will go back.

Live music by the hotels swimming pool. Food and services are great. We tried the pork chop and shrimp paella dishes. Both are excellent. The banana pudding is a signature dessert and is a must-try.. it’s soft and yummy.

Great atmosphere and great food. Alex was our server and she made great recommendations that were based on Hawaiian style cooking. I had the pork and my wife had the snapper fish. Both were amazing. We each got a cocktail. Mai Tai was a little strong but the Escape drink was good. Love the ambiance. We were lucky to here a musician sing and play guitar nearby. Very relaxing environment. Hope we can get back there in the future.

Cute little restaurant in the Surfjack Hotel. Food options were great and the only downside was the lack of salt on the risotto. The ahi tuna was cooked really well.

BEST COCKTAILS IN WAIKIKI! All the food and drink was locally sourced, super fresh and the cocktails were so well thought out. Drinks are unique and absolutely phenomenal. Vibes were immaculate! If you are there on a night with live music its even more amazing. Ian and Chris took amazing care of us! Also the coconut water ice cubes were next level delicious

I thought the fish was actually a little bland. But the banana pudding dessert was amazing! I also liked the soup and crudo!

Lovely spot for happy hour. We had some time to kill in Waikiki before heading to the airport and found this place kind of randomly and were pleasantly surprised. They have $8 cocktails on happy hour, all of which were delicious and we also enjoyed a cheese pizza for only $12. It’s attached to a hotel which we’re definitely interested in checking out if we ever come back to Waikiki.

The live music was amazing, the food was incredible, the banana pudding was a family recipe passed down. Definitely a gem and will be back! Allison was our server and felt like family. <3

Tucked into a hotel, nice ambiance with live music and South Pacific playing. We ordered an assortment of appetizers. I wasn’t that into the crudo despite it being recommended, the lemongrass and other flavors didn’t work for me. Really enjoyed avocado tacos. Kale salad was good, a little sweet. Pasta was also tasty. A little distracted during dinner so didn’t get so many photos.

This place is a gem, and what makes it special is the people that work here. They are genuinely the most down to earth friendliest people we've ever had the pleasure of meeting. From the cafe, to the bar to the dining table, everyone was so helpful and kind. The cafe serves some of the best coffee we've had in Waikiki and the restaurant delivers on the flavours and creative presentation of their dishes. We had the Mahina family feast and it was awesome. The deep fried snapper was cooked to perfection. Our server Deevon was fantastic and personable. To top it off, they have live music playing to compliment your dinner. Absolutely fantastic. Mahalo for making our mothers day such a special event, definitely will be back again. ❤️

Loved the service, food, and the music was wonderful! Lacking in comfort- seating and environment was not en par with the rest of the experience. Too casual and terrible lighting. The chef and pricing were excellent, just the atmosphere was not comfortable at all.

Ended up here 2 nights in a row because they ran out of the family feast the first time we showed up. Our server was so concerned about how bummed we were that he sent the manager, Élan, over to touch base with us 🥹 We had delicious cocktails (Escape and Maui Mule) and enjoyed the crab hush puppies with live music the first night. When we returned the next night, for the family feast, we were greeted warmly by the staff. We ordered the family feast for 1 person bc we had a feeling it'd be enough for the both of us (our opakapaka was 1.5#). Part way through the family feast, I said, "I know we're not done with this yet, but I would definitely come back and get it again." It was worth the wait! My dining buddy agreed! 💯 What a great experience - extremely hospitable and personable service, excellent food, tasty drinks, and a lovely ambiance with live music!

I was so impressed with this restaurant. It was our first night in Hawaii and we had such an amazing meal and time here. The server was fabulous and so kind, the food was quick and delicious, and the live music even had a few couples dancing the night away. Highly, highly recommend!

There is live music almost every night. The seafood is fresh!! The pizza is authentic, home made excellence!! Lanai Menu, Dinner Menu, Drink Menu is all fuego!! 🔥😋. Poolside seating, plenty of room throughout the restaurant. Awesome staff!! My new favorite hangout in Waikiki!💯

I would come here again and again if I could, a little hard when you live in Australia though! The food was fantastic. A clever mix of Asian and Hawaiian and really interesting flavours. And the service here was top notch. The knowledge that our waitress had on the drinks blew my mind. What a cool place. Would love to stay in the hotel next time 🤙 @von_wanderlust

For starters, I ate at the bar and didn't have a reservation. It was wasn't a problem, Sunday night? I ordered a margarita that was fantastic then followed it with the Inigo Montoya, bc the bartender said it was light and refreshing. She was right so I ordered a second. I had the Ahi Palaha. The flavors were amazing. Portion size was a bit much for me but that gave me the option to guiltlessly nibble on all the pistachios and pickled mushrooms that tasted so wonderful. For dessert I had the Pavlova with tropical fruit and vanilla cream. This was so good I'm a bit short on words to describe how awesome it was. The menu is locally sourced and I would definitely eat here again!

Friendly, efficient staff. Delicious and creative meals. It was one of our director's birthday, and it was suggested we take her to Mahina & Sun's. We weren't disappoint.

Outstanding all round. Best coffee we’ve had in the States (thanks Marshall!) - legit NZ quality. All the food we tried (breakfast lunch and dinner) was hot, fresh and delicious. The staff are fantastic. Shout out to Heidi thanks for putting up with our questions! Amazing and we will definitely be back

Simple , short menu but all beautifully executed. Within a world (Waikiki) where so many restaurants serve USA mainstay food, this is a gastronomic pleasure.

I came today 12pm to have a lunch with my son. The chair was with crumbs. I ordered food and drinks. I was waiting my juice 20 min. There were a few people only. I left the place. The lunch menu only with couple of things.

From the initial greeting our experience was truly of the Aloha spirit that can only be found in Hawaii. Our server was knew her menu so well, that she noticed we didn't include one of their signature dishes and recommended it. We of course took her word and was NOT disappointed. We shared everything "family style". Their cocktail list, wine list truly was amazing. Farm to table, a wine list that truly matched their menu, cocktails that were beautiful to look at as well as absolutely delicious. Their entire team was so passionate about being part of a dynamic restaurant. Kudos to the Management team, who's culture really shined in service. The atmosphere was a radiant "shaka". Congratulations Mahina and Sun's!!! And thank you!

Dear M&S: Thank you for last night's excellent service, delicious food, and fine entertainment. It was a homerun. Kudos to Eliott, best birthday dinner server ever. Thanks for the great host who reassured us it was ok that we ran a few minutes late. Cheery and attentive valet service. Bravo!

The food was very delicious and I appreciate the use of local ingredients. Some food items were really over priced for what they were.(Opah corn chowder) The cocktails were small and overpriced as well. The white tuna and shrimp and grits were amazing. They sent out a Pavlova for desert that was very tasty. Our waitress was very delightful.

Wish we lived in Hawaii. Our server Elliot was absolutely incredible and we wish we were best friends with him. The staff and everyone was amazing. The food was honestly the best we've ever had. The shrimp were HUGE and the flavors were indescribable. Best ahi tuna we've EVER HAD. Thank you guys for everything!

We love going to hear Sandy Tsukiyama with Tommy or Dave. And the food is Delicious! We have been there several times. This last time I tasted my husband's Portuguese bean soup and fish (tender and flavorful). Both were delicious. I usually get the avocado taco, oysters (when they have them), the pork pate appetizer, and the octopus salad! All onolicious! And we cannot forget the meringue dessert with fresh fruit!! It could be a meal in itself! So yummy!! Our dining experience has always been enjoyable at Marina and Sun's! Xo Beth Miura

I can't speak highly enough about Mahina and Sun's. The food is EXCELLENT (breakfast and dinner), reasonable portions beautifully prepared and complimentary sides. The dessert was off the charts!! Service was fabulous and they are so accommodating. I will be recommending them to everyone I know. Thank you for everything...bonus dinner overlooking the pool was perfect.

Love this place. Great place for Hawaii's Film Industry meetings. Love the Aloha service.

My husband and I shared the pizza and marlin poke bowl. They were both fabulous. We weren't bugged by waitstaff and were left alone to do our own thing. It was great.
