For starters, I ate at the bar and didn't have a reservation. It was wasn't a problem, Sunday night? I ordered a margarita that was fantastic then followed it with the Inigo Montoya, bc the bartender said it was light and refreshing. She was right so I ordered a second. I had the Ahi Palaha. The flavors were amazing. Portion size was a bit much for me but that gave me the option to guiltlessly nibble on all the pistachios and pickled mushrooms that tasted so wonderful. For dessert I had the Pavlova with tropical fruit and vanilla cream. This was so good I'm a bit short on words to describe how awesome it was. The menu is locally sourced and I would definitely eat here again!
More casual than expected but amazing food, well priced, attentive staff, live music, all around a great time.
We stumbled upon this restaurant looking for vegetarian options and Mahina & Sun’s was amazing! Live music, great food, and great service. Mikey, our server was fabulous. The band was so talented and made the atmosphere feel very welcoming. We ordered the avocado tacos, kale salad, and my husband ordered the swordfish. It was delicious!
This was a delight. The atmosphere was peaceful and pleasant. Dinner around a pool with the ceiling open to the beautiful Hawaiian night sky. You could feel the gentle breezes. The service of Mikey was genuine. He was very friendly and made each table feel like we were the only people in the room. He knew the menu items and helped us make good choices. The drinks were smooth and tasty. Food was exquisite. They had live entertainment, it was a joy to listen to Hawaiian music while dining. The music wasn't too loud so you still have conversation.
The only small drawback was the hostess that seated us, she was not very pleasant and did not fit in with the great experience that we received later. All in all, it did not overshadow a wonderful dinning experience.
Breakfast and dinner were delightful! We enjoyed every dish. Each dish had some local elements that made it special and made me appreciate them after my Hawai’i trip ended. The restaurant is in a cute beach theme, designed fashionably on every corner, great for pictures.
Highlights of our meal:
- Avocados Taco was surprisingly good. I didn’t think fried avocado would be good, but it did!
- The pork chop with coconut milk with lomi tomato vinaigrette sauce was so tasty that I was sipping it by itself.
- Waffle was made like a Belgian style. The texture was slightly crisp on the outside, yet soft and fluffy on the inside.
- Perfectly ripped 1/2 papaya was sweet and yummy, perfect for after a meal.
- Guava mimosa was good!
As one of our last meals in Hawaii, we wanted something local and special. We got the family feast for 6 (there were six of us), two Thai snapper fish and two dozen oysters. It was a bit too much honestly. We could've been happy with just 4 family feasts for the six of us. The fish was good but it wasn't amazing. The sides were great but nothing really stood out to me.
The best part of the meal was the oysters. They were super fresh and delicious.
In total for six people we spent about $450USD which was quite pricey. Not sure if we will go back.
Live music by the hotels swimming pool. Food and services are great. We tried the pork chop and shrimp paella dishes. Both are excellent. The banana pudding is a signature dessert and is a must-try.. it’s soft and yummy.

Great atmosphere and great food. Alex was our server and she made great recommendations that were based on Hawaiian style cooking. I had the pork and my wife had the snapper fish. Both were amazing. We each got a cocktail. Mai Tai was a little strong but the Escape drink was good. Love the ambiance. We were lucky to here a musician sing and play guitar nearby. Very relaxing environment. Hope we can get back there in the future.
Cute little restaurant in the Surfjack Hotel. Food options were great and the only downside was the lack of salt on the risotto. The ahi tuna was cooked really well.
BEST COCKTAILS IN WAIKIKI! All the food and drink was locally sourced, super fresh and the cocktails were so well thought out. Drinks are unique and absolutely phenomenal. Vibes were immaculate! If you are there on a night with live music its even more amazing. Ian and Chris took amazing care of us! Also the coconut water ice cubes were next level delicious
I thought the fish was actually a little bland. But the banana pudding dessert was amazing! I also liked the soup and crudo!
Lovely spot for happy hour. We had some time to kill in Waikiki before heading to the airport and found this place kind of randomly and were pleasantly surprised. They have $8 cocktails on happy hour, all of which were delicious and we also enjoyed a cheese pizza for only $12. It’s attached to a hotel which we’re definitely interested in checking out if we ever come back to Waikiki.
