Make no mistake, the food here is top notch. Delicious flavors with attractive presentation. The docking of one star comes from service that couldn't quite get it together for our visit. The (amazing) poke appetizer came out after 3 (incredibly delicious) of 4 entrees. That last entree was served to another guest and had to be remade. The delay was a shame, but the food was still excellent. No offer to adjust the bill, but that's ok. The food was that good.
Finally had the chance to experience the Izakaya bar at Miyo's. The food and service were top notch, and we even had a chance to chat with the owner about the menu. Super nice guy.
Highly recommended, and everyone in our party cleaned their plates!
The food is excellent here and so is service. Shrimp tempura was melt in your mouth, goodness! The vegetable tempura was cooked to perfection. I enjoyed eating the sashimi. The food presentation is also good, as shown in the pictures below. It was very busy around 7 pm, almost no tables were available. Reservations are important to avoid any waiting. I definitely recommend this restaurant for excellent seafood and steak.
Food and atmosphere was very good!! Braxton was the amazing waitress!!! Make sure to ask for her section. So funny and sweet really made us have a wonderful night. I had the Guy-Don, it was delicious!
Everything… literally everything was great! From the service, the food quality and quantity to the prices. I highly recommend the mushrooms as a starter, the seafood hot pot, and the bento box. But honestly, everything that we tried (there were 6 of us) was just so so good. In addition, the quantity of food was quite generous and their prices - while not cheap - are very reasonable. Highly recommended.
Make Miyo’s a must stop if you’re in Hilo!! We got a spot in the bar and were able to watch the chefs meticulously prep each dish before serving directly to you while enjoying draft Sapporo (read: draft Sapporo!).
The menu is large and varied so I suggest eating family style and trying different things. My favorite dish was the crispy rice special which had an Ahi poke mixture on top - the crispy rice was like nothing I had tried before. The duck was light but rich with a nice berry sauce and crispy skin. Japanese egg toast was unique with a sous vide egg and a salty crunch on famous Japanese white bread. Beef noodle soup was rich (tasted a bit like French dip au jus), soft shell crab special was tempura battered and came with a some veggies for good measure.
Presentation was extremely impressive on all dishes. Service also 10/10, but do recommend a reservation as people were getting turned away since they were booked for the night.
The quality of the food is excellent. For $25 You get generous portions in the bento which makes the cost worth it. Tempura was light and crispy. Steak was tender and not overly sweet. Chicken and steak was hibachi style which made the preparation authentic.
Great lunch spot. You can get away without a reservation for lunch but not dinner. Everything was so good and great service!
Excellent service and food as always. I made sure to make reservations as we were coming for dinner. Even though it was just the two of us, I highly recommend making reservations.
When it came time to pay, we had a gift certificate and it wasn't showing up on the receipt. Our waitress, 'Ale'a, was awesome! Even though she was also taking care of two other tables, one of them with 12 people, she still made sure to stop and check that the gift certificate was used for us!
We will definitely be returning!
I took a good friend for lunch. Haven't seen her for a while and we had a lot to catch up. I ordered the teriyaki with tempura and she ordered the beef steak with side veg salad. She raved about her meal and even tried some from my plate. Excellent!
Even though we were sitting near the kitchen, we were able to have our conversation. The place wasn't noisy and the staff were helpful & friendly.
