Such a wonderful place to dine. Although small the ambience is quiet and peaceful. The service is friendly and efficient while the food is fantastic. There are plenty of options but the sushi is the star of the show.
Most entrees are in the mid teens so with a drink, tax and tip you will spend a but over $20 per person.
Umi is one of Hickory 's hidden jewelry restaurants. My best advice is book your reservation many days or a week in advance, this because of the small size.
We have been coming here for years, and have enjoyed every visit immensely! If you are in the area, I could not recommend UMI enough. Everything is amazing, we particularly love getting the Bento boxes so that we can have a little bit of everything. You’ll feel very welcome here! I’d recommend making reservations, because they don’t always have an open table.
I love Umi!! Reservation only, but worth every bit of the wait. The hostess is one of the best in Hickory, considering she's the only person working the floor; she attends each table quickly & converses with each person there. The chef is excellent, the food comes fast & is absolutely delicious. 5 stars easily
My friend and I chose UMI for our prom night dinner and we couldn’t have been more happy with the experience. We were warmly welcomed despite us being late for our reservation, the service was fast and immaculate, and the food was fabulous. It’s a small restaurant which makes for a very peaceful environment and my friend and I will definitely be returning! UMI is a hidden gem and a great choice for dinner!
Amazing sushi, sashimi, tempora, and katsu curry. This is an authentic traditional Japanese restaurant, not a typical Americanized Japanese restaurant. If you're looking for teriyaki chicken, you'll need to look elsewhere. They are by reservation only and have limited seating, so book ahead. I wish I could get more than five stars.
Amazing quality food and care, never been to a restaurant that has as much hospitality and quaintness as this one, highly recommend :) the sushi is amazingly fresh
Great place for sushi! Small unassuming place, but highly recommend it. Service was exceptional! I would definitely recommend calling for reservations, the place is limited in seating. Was our grandson's birthday, and they brought out a balloon with roses
My wife and I come here every year for our anniversary. We love it! I think they have live eels in the back bc the dragon rolls are to die for.
Tonight we also had a spider roll, my wife got a bento box with salmon, tempura shrimp with veggies, grilled eel on top of rice. And i got tonkatsu like always. With a bottle of sake of course.
The price is good considering little tokyo is brought to us. This place is small and quiet. The feel is relaxing and intimate.
Fyi, I eat rice almost everyday and their rice is so good.
