Penny's Diner

Ate there for the first time yesterday. It looked inviting and had a distinct retro feeling, specifically geared towards the 1950s and 1960s. The menu was digital only, through use of a QR code. The pictures looked inviting in the menu and we ordered two appetizers and four meals. Appetizers were tasty, though they were out of the mozzarella sticks that I really wanted. We had chili cheese tots and fried pickles. It was when the entrees arrived that things went sideways. My wife had ordered chicken fried chicken but received chicken fried steak (I ordered that myself but she doesn't care for it). The protein was replaced eventually but not quickly. Only one server for the whole place caused everything to take far longer than I would expect from a short order diner. The other good, overall, was standard frozen or instant. The BLT was authentic and apparently went over well, the mushroom Swiss burger was what my sister in law expected, my chicken fried steak was a frozen patty but still okay, the mashed potatoes were instant and the green beans were microwaved and that left them unevenly cooked. My wife ordered the same sides and her chicken fried chicken was also a frozen item but cooked well and she did eventually enjoy it. All in all, it was an okay visit. I probably won't stop in again, as it offered nothing extra in the way of nostalgia nor taste.

This place has got to be on your list to stop by!!!! Diane was the only one working on the day we went but she cooking and serving and unloading the supply truck all at the same time. She did it all with a smile and such a great attitude!!!! The food tasted so good and we even got chocolate pie all homemade so freaking delicious! Excuse the bites missing I had to try before reviewing it!

The food was fine but nothing to write home about The food was NOT fresh and tasted frozen. We had to wait a long time to give & get our order. However, the reason we gave it 2 stars is when my (super chill) hubby asked a question about my burger the waitress yelled at him. She apologized but her initial reaction was soooo over the top.

This place is very cute on the inside! My sister, friend, and I went at 2 pm today (Friday) and were the only 3 people dining there. I got the bacon cheese burger with fries and my friend and sister got the French dip. The food was good, we were pleased all the way around. Freshly cooked as soon as we ordered and could see them making it which was cool! The staff is friendly and quick with orders. The only thing we didn't like very much were the shakes. My vanilla shake was a little too watery, it didn't taste bad but it wasn't what I expected a shake to be, which was a bummer. 4 stars- the food was good, the interior decor was cute and the staff was nice but as a '50s style diner you need good shakes lol

Nice place to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner 24 hours a day. Great staff and food is tasty. The prices are very reasonable as well. I enjoyed my meal and the service. A variety of items to choose from but not many vegan or vegetarian selections. Enjoy. Today is Saturday, July 9, 2022 as I decided to revisit Penny's Diner and enjoy the great ambiance I receive there at 2:30 am in the morning. Sadly, this was not the case. I got to meet the owner as she and the cook was there. I simply ordered 2 eggs over easy and a slice of toast. She was kind to offer us water, but it went south from there. I tried to start a conversation with her as I normally do and she told us about her great homemade cream topping for her cinnamon buns. The cinnamon buns were good as my girl got one. I hated how she didn't wish to get to know me or her and simply enjoyed talking about herself keeping it short. She quickly asked for payment as if she thought I would leave without paying based on the color of my skin. This has never happened before the various other times I ate here. She didn't even offer me a copy of the receipt having me sign only the merchant copy. Tsk tsk tsk. Clearly I entered back into the 1960s when I walked through the door this time as you can tell she didn't approve of me having a Caucasian soulmate. I really enjoyed eating there but alas I will not eat there again. As a member of the National Press Club of Washington DC and Founder / Owner of Get Up Radio Media Broadcasting, I cannot support a business that doesn't accept change. Unless you support racism and the old ways of the south, please pass this business by and eat at McDonald's or another place 1 mile up the road instead. Thanks!!! Ps. No vegetarian options and most of the food is frozen, not fresh.

This is a retro feel diner. The food was excellent! Our waitress/cook was very friendly and very accommodating. We had a delicious, relaxing and fair priced meal. We will definitely be back because there are items on the menu that we did not try...yet. The Texas-shaped waffle was tasty and just the right size.

We stumbled in for a quick bite. Only 1 cook and 1 waiter, but they were sure working hard to get everyone taken care of. Sharon, the cook was extremely efficient getting the food orders out. I watched as she worked with deep focus. She made it look easy! I was so impressed that she served our food (4 people) at perfect temperature, perfect crispness and appearance. The time was a tad extended to get our food, but we understood why, under the circumstances. It seems they may have been short staffed. As for the dining area and restrooms, they could use a more frequent deep cleaning, but it was not gross or anything. If you patronize this business and see Sharon, the cook, (small, petite, and beautiful yellow-ish hazel eyes) please be kind and patient. She deserves a lot of respect for showing up to work for 10 years, instead of sitting at home waiting for a hand-out, like so many these days. Give her an extra tip, if you can, and tell her if you think she’s pretty awesome. It made her crack a smile for me.

When we arrived, there was only one other table of customers, by the time we left there were very few tables left. Our waitress was also the cool and the only employee working. She was able to wait the tables and cook delicious food effortlessly. Being out first visit, we asked the waitress for suggestions for a breakfast selection and she made an excellent suggestion of the sunrise skillet with a waffle. It was an excellent suggestion. We will be back
