Mack's On The River

We were camping at Paul B Johnson State Park and wanted some great fried catfish and this place did not disappoint. The buffet is a sampler of simple southern comfort food done right! Our favorites included the whole fried fish, fried oysters, boiled and fried shrimp, collard greens, black eyed peas, squash, and tasty desserts. The restaurant had large seating capacity, was very clean and staff was very nice.

We had the buffet. Shrimp/ fish was excellent, everything thing else was good except runny & flavorless Mac & cheese and some fish with cheese blobbed on it (nasty).... Salad bar was a sorry joke, desert bar had chocolate & strawberry cake that looked like som kid just got done muxin in... Waitress was was very nice & on top of everything ....... Though the fish & shrimp were excellent, for $66 and some change for 2 people I feel it was pretty sorry & sad for the price they charge versus what you you get.... For my money (or yours) I’ll stay with GOLDEN CORRAL a much better deal all the way around.

First time here and honestly I wasn’t that impressed with the quality of the food. They offer a Seafood buffet or you can order off the menu. The buffet is $32.99 per person, drinks extra. Buffet does have a good selection of food and sides. We ordered off the menu, combo plates, whole catfish, stuffed (fried) crab, catfish filets plus sides. The whole catfish was small and very over cooked, the filets were better. The stuffed crab was mostly stuffing, couldn’t taste the crab (don’t recommend). The fried okra wasn’t the best and green beans tasted like they came from a can. I didn’t care for the hush puppies either. Overall just not for me.
