Grew up in Hamden, and ate at Glenwood all the time. Haven't been there in probably 20 years. Went with my husband and another couple...my husband who is from East Haven had never been there. He started with a hot dog because he just had to have the classic, and the lobster roll which was the best he has had in a long time. He also ordered onion rings, which of course were the best, light and crispy. I had the fried scallops which were delicious, and the famous fried zucchini. Our friends had fried clam strip platter and the soft shell crab platter. She is a foodie and said it was one of the best she has ever had. The restaurant looks the same, maybe better...and the owner came around asking if we wanted refills on our soda. It was great to be at the Glenwood again!! And regarding so many posts regarding their prices....we have been to a lot of seafood restaurants, and I thought they were less than most. Keep up the great work!
I have been going to Glenwood for over 50 years but recently moved to Florida. But when I come back to the area this is one of the must visit place on the list. They are positively the best hotdog I have ever eaten.
The best hot dog that I ever ate was at the Glenwood Drive-in in Hamden, Connecticut with bacon, onions, chili, spicy relish, relish mustard and American cheese: fuggedaboutit.
I had the scallops over the weekend for the first time. They were huge and very good! I usually get their delicious hot dogs but couldn't pass up the scallops.
On a rainy Saturday,
Our daughter, a Hamden native, visited us from NY with her husband and 2 children.
She insisted that we go to Glenwood for lunch so that she could share her fond childhood memories with her own young family.
It was a great success!!
Ending, of course with a satisfying dessert at Kelly's Cone Connection...
Great softshell crab sandwich! Perfectly crispy. Really friendly place. Grilled chicken sandwich, fries, and onion rings were all good too.
Nostalgic, local, yummy junk food! Great place for a treat! Fried shrimp, hot dogs, "frings" (mix of fries and onion rings), birch beer... and a trip down menory lane!
A yummy treat. We miss the order calling, that was part of the Glenwood experience. Like everything everywhere prices are getting up there, can't go very often anymore.
Love this place, so does my aunt. Casual dining with great fried foods and amazing ice cream next door.
