Steak 'n Shake

It was okay. The service was very slow. The waitress was nice, but extremely slow. When we came in, she only had 2 tables including us. The refills were also slow. The fries ended up being cold when they got to us. I did say something and she brought new ones. Other than that, the food was good, service was poor.

The Steak n Shake in Grapevine resembles that of a 50s diner. It has table service, and great food. Everything is hand made, which means that there is a wait. Do not go through the drive through if you are in a hurry. They have great Milkshakes which you can't get as good anywhere else. The burgers are huge, and they have a great drink menu. The price is decent, but still a little more than a fast food joint. I recommend this place to anyone in the area who is looking for a bite to eat.

Update : 09/03/2018 Same thing happened. No toppings in the burger, and this was my next visit after my previous one, which I experienced the same thing; no toppings in drive through burger. I ordered double steak burger and this is what i got. -------- Previously gave 4 starts now 1.. Make sure you check your order while drive through. Tonight I ordered 2 burgers, mushroom swiss and all american, however all I got was a patty and 2 buns. I had left already couldn't go back. -------- Previous experience : Burger was really good, polite workers. Yes restaurant can be a little more cleaner and could use better ventilation, but why would people give one star when they like the food? Good for the price.

I don't even know why I have given this place a 1 star. I went there for the first time with my family in June. We should have turned and left 5 min in while we were waiting to be seated. There were so many empty tables that needed to be cleaned so that people could be seated. There were about 4 other parties waiting to be seated. We waited about 20 min to be seated. When we were finally seated we waited another 5-10 min for wait staff to come and take our order. drinks finally came out and I along with one of the children did not get our drink. I waited for the waiter to come back thinking he just needed to get them. We waited about 20-30 min and our food finally started coming out. I still had not got my drink. I asked about it again and he said he would bring it. (it was just water) One of the children had not received her food yet either. Everyone had started eating and he said he would have her plate and my drink right out. My daughter gave my granddaughter some of her food while she waited for her plate. As everyone was finishing their meal I flagged down another waiter and told them the child had never received her food and I never received my drink. He went and told our waiter, who came over and started apologizing and blaming all the other employed. I asked for our ticket and he asked if we still wanted the child's food and my drink. I told him no and to take it off of the bill. 10 minutes went by and he hadn't come back. We all just got up and I went to the register and asked for a manager. I explained everything to the manager and she did not seem very concerned about it. She did eventually cut the bill in half. I will never be back at this restaurant and do not recommend it.

I enjoy S&S but last week I came in for a late lunch around 130pm. While I was seated fairly quickly, I sat there for 35 minutes without even being brought a menu. I noted that the restaurant was about 1/3 full and nearly every empty table was full of trash. There were more employees in the store than customers. I finally got up and found a waitress who took my order. The food came 25 minutes later, but they forgot to make the milkshake I ordered. My burger was good but the fries were cold and inedible. No one brought me a check so I had to go to the register and tell them what I bought in order to pay. Employees go out of their way to not go into the dining room and avoid eye contact with customers. I saw what appeared to be a manager- the only person working, in the back of the kitchen. There was zero supervision going on- just a bunch of unmotivated teenagers wandering around avoiding anything resembling cleaning, greeting or serving customers. New management? I was here a year ago and had a good experience.

Update: I would not recommend this location. I returned here with my family on a Saturday afternoon and waited a few minutes to be seated. We waited over 20 minutes for service and the server was slow and uncaring by the name Shannon. The manager/supervisor didn't know how to process an egift card a d the Android pay at the register was not working and possibly turned off or just not activated by the supervisor. The server did not come over until we were ready to leave asking if we wanted refills. My spouse is food came and she did not like it the kids said their food was okay but the condiments bottles on the table were empty. I do not feel that this restaurant is still a three star place and this visit fell even further to two stars. I would not visit in the future and I wound sell any future gift cards before I return to this chain restaurant. There was sporadic yelling and what seemed to be horseplay by workers for no apparent reason which was somewhat annoying as we sat in the restaurant waiting for them to bring our food This location is just barely okay they had some decent french fries and hamburgers. The server just was barely okay, we did enjoyed the shakes.
