We just returned from a two night stay at the Inn and can't wait to go back. What a charming place with an idyllic setting, fascinating history and friendly staff. Our view of the river and grounds from room 114 were beautiful, peaceful and refreshing and the room was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed all of our delicious meals in the Dining Room...where we felt like we were eating in a beautiful tree house...the ambience and view were so lovely. We also enjoyed nightly drinks in front of the fire in the lobby...where there were plenty of puzzles, chess sets, books and papers for us to enjoy. The Benbow Inn is a magical place, one where we were transported back to a simpler time and made to feel very special. We will definitely be visiting again soon.
Even though the historical inn is in the middle of a renovation, it is more than a stunning place to stay. From check-in to tuck in, this place is all about GREAT Guest Service. The lovely lawn, gardens and riverside grounds are pristine and inviting. As a writer, I was drawn to the history and the romantic ambience. Truly, a magical place with class and epic views.
We had a lovely dinner last night. I had coq au vin and she had an eggplant dish. The entrees were fantastic. We saw lots of other great looking dishes being served around us to the rather casually dressed patrons. Service was pleasant and attentive, and we had nice cocktails from the bar. This AM (Sunday) I went for brunch (8AM - 1PM), in which one orders one of the rather normal breakfast items. I was quite alone at 845! I ordered a 2-egg scramble, and requested fruit substituted for potatoes, and got a lovely fruit bowl of fresh, appetizing berries and banana slices. The only issue was the rather young staff had trouble bringing butter, coffee, and pepper to the table. It didn't ruin the meal, just a little annoying.
In summary, the food and drinks were great, staff were friendly and pleasing, but some of the most youthful staff need more experience. Should be 4.5 stars for service
The location is beautiful. Good seating inside and outside. The food is great. It's a good place to take business associates or go out for a nice dinner in Southern Humboldt. The hotel is quaint and historic.
This is a beautiful place. Food is excellent, service outstanding. Dine inside or outside on the patio. Enjoy views of the Eel River out front. And there's even a trail if you feel up for a stroll.
