Omg! I was determined to go to Galveston TODAY to try the tamales and ended up getting Tamales,sausage sandwich and chopped beef sandwich...and it was very well worth the drive to Galveston! The ppl were very polite and the service was A-1. I will be backοΏ½
I love this place. Everything I've tried has been delicious. I'm a chicken person, and the chicken here is perfect. Its not dry, cooked thoroughly, and seasoned to perfection. I'm not getting my barbecued chicken anywhere else.

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! My goodness, if this ain't Tex-Mex then idk what to tell you!!!! Brisket tacos were PERFECTION!!! Rice and beans were Exceptional! Brisket was absolute GOLD!!! This is the closest thing I've found in the area that reminds of bbq in the RGV! Tamales were fluffy and oh SO GOOD!!! I almost started crying because the tamales tasted just like my grandmother's RIP. This place is legit and ain't nobody gonna tell me different! THANK YOU Pennies Tex Mex for being authentic and true to how bbq is supposed to be done in Texas. God bless you all at Pennies Tex Mex cuz y'all are doing a beautiful thing!!! ππ½ SAS!!!

What I can say about Pennies Tex Mex Take Out is that if they sell it, whatever it is, it's among the best you can get. I've tried nearly everything they have to sell and nothing is lacking. The ribs and brisket are the among best that I've had anywhere; and I've judged competitions for many years as well as conducted BBQ tours in Missouri, Oklahoma, & Texas. From the bark to the ring, the cut, the tenderness, and flavor; the brisket are ribs achieve perfection on every level. No sauce needed but that's good too.
Pennies tamales and barbacoa are top notch as well. The pork/beef tamales are seasoned with just the right hint of heat--the same goes for the salsa which accompanies them. The perfectly prepared barbacoa has a hearty roast beef flavor and is not greasy as others often can be.
I can't find a fault in the potato salad, beans, or chocolate pecan cake either.
The deal with Pennies is that they do just a few things but they do those few things consistently right. They specialize in the labor or time intensive foods such as tamales and slow smoked/cooked meats. So let them do the work. Stop in and buy a couple pounds of EVERYTHING and don't worry about *breakfast, lunch, or dinner for several days.
*Barbacoa or brisket on a tortilla makes a great breakfast--add and egg. Yessir.
First time eating at this place and it was amazing!! I had the tacos and my wife had the 3 meats. The flavor was spot on and everyone there was so friendly! I highly recommend!!

Was advised to try Pennies out and so happy I did. I was introduced to everyone that works there and it was a real pleasure to meet them.
Had the smoked brisket which was perfectly cooked to my taste. The βmomβ even offered me a tamale to taste and it was superb. Such a lovely family !

Heard on Texas Eats that the tamales were good so we had to try. We went directly to Pennies in after getting off the ship.
We must admit these were the best tamales weβve had and the brisket was excellent.

Come support your local community!! This place has great food all the way around. On this day we came for breakfast tacos, although they only have barbacoa i will tell you that is all you need. The meat is not seasoned so you are able to taste all the natural flavors and are super delicious with some gentle salt. You will also get some hot sauce. You will see that the serving size is well worth the price. Im telling you, you wont be disappointed coming here. We will come back.
The brisket taco was yummy. Also got the Barbacoa taco, tamales & potato salad. The salsa was fresh & spicy. Service was friendly & food came out fast.
Nice little family joint serving barbeque and tamales. They have an outdoor patio, but nothing inside. Mostly a takeout place.
Sliced brisket had a good smoke taste to it, but the cut was more of a chunk than slices.
The tamales are large and tasty, but spicier than we expected.
The pinto beans also had good flavor but we're also spicier than expected.
Be sure to check your bag before you leave because ours was missing our tamale order and we had to go back to get them.
The Tamales are off the CHAIN!!! The Ribs and Brisket almost melt in your mouth. Service was on Point and very attentive to what you want. Atmosphere very welcoming, friendly the ordering and receiving area is kinda crowded if a lot of customers shows up you'll end up standing out in the elements. My only complaint is the potato salad... might need to experiment with different recipes.
