Sonny's Bbq

What a wonderful place to eat!! My husband, 10 year old son, and myself were on our way home from visiting in South Carolina and decided to eat at the most in-opportune moment because there was hardly anything around to eat that was open at 7pm on a Tuesday night. So we typed food in the GPS and clicked on Sonny’s. Little did we realize that it was 12 mins out of our way. We decided to go for it and we are glad we did. The food was great and hot and the staff were very nice and accommodating. I just want to point out one thing we noticed that made me want to give them 5 stars. Our waitress was bringing our food to the table; when the tray tipped just a little bit, just enough to allow two of our plates to fall onto the floor(accidents happen). The thing that stood out was how fast her other team members ran over to help her while other team members we shouting out what was on the floor to the cooks. What great team work!!!! Too often do we see other waiters walk away and worry about their own tables. Great job guys!!!!!

I love the nostalgia of the original location on Waldo Road. It's impressively clean, and the servers are very friendly. The food quality seems to have slipped a little over the years. The ribs were delicious, but mine was almost entirely fat and bone, so I got very little actual meat. My partner's ribs were much meatier. Sadly hit and miss, which is disappointing. The chicken was extremely dry, to the point of being tough. The coleslaw, beans, and garlic bread were great. I still love them, but I'm less eager to go back in the future. It was okay overall.

WORST SONNY'S EVER!! WAITED OVER ONE HOUR AND FIFTEEN MINUTES FOR A CALL IN ORDER. I WAS TOLD FIFTEEN TO TWENTY MINUTES. PAID FOR MY FOOD AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE READY IN A FEW MINUTES WHICH IT WASN'T!!! I RECEIVED MY FOOD AND THING'S WERE WRONG AND SOME I DIDN'T EVEN RECEIVE. THE SAME WITH SEVERAL OTHER CUSTOMERS. STILL AT SONNY'S I TOOK IT BACK, THE SAME YOUNG GIRL THAT GAVE ME MY ORDER I TOLD HER MY ORDER WAS WRONG AND SOME I DIDN'T GET. IN RETURN SHE ASK FOR A RECEIPT, GIVE HER THE RECEIPT AND SHE STILL COULDN'T GET THE ORDER CORRECT!!! I LOVE SONNY'S BUT THIS SONNY'S IS THE WORST ONE IN GAINESVILLE, FL!!! I HAVE SENT SEVERAL EMAILS TO CORPORATE AND AS OF YET I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING FROM THEM... SO DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND BY PASS THIS DUMP OF A SONNY'S!!! IN MY EYES I WASTED MY TIME AND MONEY!!!

Always a wonderful time when we visit here. Nichole was our server that day and she was beyond extraordinary. She definitely went out of her way to provide excellent service. It was full when we got there, but we were seated quickly. Our food was sublime. Every time we head this way we always stop here for lunch and they never disappoint.

Hoping Sonny's management sees this review. I have been eating at Sonny's since the 70s and it saddens me to see the franchise slipping. I understand modernizing the restaurants to the new layout, gotta change with the times, but this slow erosion away from Sonny's tradition of excellence is hard to see. Here is what I see taking place. After about 6pm the chicken is more baked than slow smoked. The salad bar is gone Went from two slices of garlic bread to one The side salads keep getting smaller And now the once amazing banana pudding has been replaced with some yellow sludge out of a can. I have been going to Sonny's less and less since the cost cutting changes started to surface. I'm just about to stop going at all. Please get back to the quality that made this a great restaurant. Until then, I can't recommend you anymore.
