"Biyaa bari" (wedding banquet) style cuisine! Probably one of the best Bengali eateries I've dined at in the USA --- I dare say in terms of culinary expertise and flavour it's tied with that iconic Bengali eatery in Queens, NY (gold standard benchmark for Bengali food excellence on American soil), so yeah it's just THAT good. The homely atmosphere, pictures, decor, TV channel, Bangla music playing in the background, Bangla language conversation around you, and especially the rich ghee aroma coming from the kitchen makes you feel like you're right there in Bangladesh. Missed this kind of indulgence, minus the obligation to actually dress up for weddings or face a bunch of strangers you don't even know you're related to. (Read that in my Anthony Bourdain voice.)
As usual my favourite is the chicken roast (Bengali style) and pulao rice, and we also ordered mughlai paratha (flatbread stuffed with meat) and kababs for appetizer, and mutton bhuna as another entree. Had the jorda with mixed mishti for dessert (sweet rice with other Desi sweets, similar to the gulab jamun variant that non-Desis are probably more familiar with). It's a long drive for us (west side of the Bay) but definitely worth taking the trip for this kind of great food. Will come back for more every now and then.
Firstly, people from Kolkata needs to understand that Arsalan Biryani might be the best Biryani in the world but not the "only" authentic form. Biryani has undergone its evolution is different states and region. So stop complaining and be paranoid every time you eat. Now - Bongos is a great place to have a break from American/Italian/Thai/Chinese restaurants in the area. Its actually pretty good in terms of the quality and quantity. It is a bit expensive which I understand is because of the underlying commodities for making it are expensive. The spice choices are good and primarily soothes the taste buds of "Bangals". The variety of options make it good for a good lunch or dinner outing. The guy at the service desk is also very cordial and nice.
Awesome food, alooo dum, chicken roast, chicken curry and goat were simply brilliant. Fish curry is made authentic bengali style; wow. Best restaurant service is superb.
I was pleasantly surprised when I was accompanied by Syam n Namrata to Bongo during my visit to California last year..... after a short hunt they decided to surprise me with Bangla cuisine....knowing anything Bong appeals to me... the food (fish fry )was authentic n roshogolla was heavenly...all the dishes were reasonably priced and freshly prepared .we congratulated the restaurateur n he mentioned (no wonder ) that people come for this from far to taste the dessert ! Wishing them all the very best n success!
We are so excited to finally have a Bangladeshi restaurant in SF Bay Area! Been there twice already and the food taste great! If you want to have an authentic taste of Bangladeshi food, this is the place to be! We had Mughlai paratha, chotpotti, fish chop and Roshogolla! All of them were outstanding! We will definitely go back and try more dishes!! Best wishes to Bongo's!
Authentic taste, Great choice, lovely people, cute place.
Went with friends for Kolkata type Biriyani... Can't complain on what they served. Small place, self service, clean, polite staffs, tasty food. Must try Parathas, Chicken Roast, Goat Biriyani and Misthi Doi. Moderately Priced.
Loved the food! From fish chops to chicken roast, rezala and pulao, everything reminded me of the flavours we grew up with! The winner of course were the freshly made warm rasgullas and mishti doi! To top it off, the owner and the people helping out were very courteous. Best wishes to the business! Looking forward to tasting many more Bengali favorities....
Excellent food... all the items were mouthwatering..
Best Bangali food ever...you must try this. Every day they have special item ... You can look every days Manu on Facebook b4 you come.
An excellent place for authentic Bengali food lovers. They have wide range of Bengali food including ilish sorshe, sutki ,and motor shutir kochori. Their misti DOI will take one back to memory lane. Biryani is also super.
The food was awesome ♥️ best Bangladeshi cuisine in bay area 🙂
I highly recommend this place to everyone 🌼
Thanku ...
Great place for Bengali cuisine! They offer many popular Bengali entrees and a couple of traditional dessert options. This place is not vegetarian friendly, they have only one veggie dish. Would recommend takeout rather than dining in because the ambience and service in the restaurant could do with improvement.
This is my favorite restaurant. I love their chicken kosha, rosogolla, and misti doi the most. They really hold authenticity in their food. This restaurant is a must-try if you like or want to try Bengali cuisine. Their food reminds me of my hometown (Kolkata). I love how they customize food according to the customers’ needs. 1 or 2 meal(s), sometimes more per week I order from them. I highly recommend this place to everyone.
This place serves some of the most authentic Bengali dishes. The rosogolla and Misti doi are spot-on; reminded me of my hometown Kolkata. Fish chop, radhaballabhi and alu r dum are also equally delicious; alu r dum was a bit oily though but tasty. Will definitely come back again and try more dishes.
