Peru Inka

I tried this place out yesterday. I must say that this place really is a gem. The service is impecable and the waitress and owner are really nice people and we had a great time. The food is incredible. I am very picky with my Peruvian food, having lived in Peru, and too many restaurants in the US just don't get it right. However, this place is spot on. I had the Pesto Spaghetti with steak (tallarines verdes) and my friend had the Anticuchos. These dishes were absolutely delicious. The Stuffed Potato I had for an appetizer was spot on and so flavorful with a perfect texture. I look forward to my next visit to try the Ceviche. Also, as I said earlier, the service is impeccable. Our waitress could not have been more friendly and accomodating. We were made to feel so welcomed and this is a rare feeling in so many restaurants now a days. I highly recommend this place!

I get the impression that the proprietors opened this place because they love food, cooking and eating. Only good things to say about the food. The dishes were delicious and generously portioned. A little more expensive than I expected, but my leftovers provided another meal entirely. We ordered the aji de gallina and the chaufa con pollo. The aji comes topped with a quartered hard boiled egg, white rice on the side. I'm interested in what what makes up the the purple smear of sauce served with the aji, it has a very distinct flavor, I couldn't place it. The service was OK. Polite, but lacking in the fluid operational professionalism that you don't notice until it's absent. It was Friday night but not busy when we sat down. It took a long time for the food to arrive; we watched another table walk out because of how long it was taking. I doubt this is always the case, but I mention it to be constructive, for both the restauranteurs and diners who may have after dinner plans. Having said that, I do plan to return in a couple weeks, hopeful that the kinks will be worked out. The food was more than good enough to warrant at least a second chance for this place.

I recently visited this new establishment. To say we were all disappointed is an understatement. I selected the chicken & rice soup as an appetizer and aji de gallina for my main course. The soup was just ok, but the rice was basically just mush that had probably been stewing all say long. They would be better off adding the rice to the soup just before it's served The only reason I gave 2 stars rather than one is that the soup wasn't terrible. Unfortunately, the aji de gallina was a different story. It was not good at all. If you like bland shredded chicken drenched in slightly warm, yellow mayonnaisey goo, then this is place for you. Someone else in our party had the chaufa with chicken, but I swear it had fish in it too. It was fishy tasting and not very good. There were bean sprouts in it which I found off, since all Chaufa recipes that I've seen never call for sprouts. Im pretty sure ischaufa is supposed to be Chinese-inspired Peruvian food and, last I checked, bean sprouts aren't generally used in Peruvian cuisine. The coup de grâce of the whole trip was the ensuing 2 day bout of diarrhea that was very likely the result of the chaufa. We will not be visiting again.
