Umi Japanese Restaurant

Great place! I love to come here for lunch when I want to treat myself. I personally get a Bento box and it is a wonderful variety of so many things they have to offer. My friends get sushi and fried rice. It's all so good! Server was friendly and attentive. Refilled my water glass without being asked. I will return soon and try some different sushi next time.

I was going to go to my go-to place but they were closing soon and Umi is around the corner from me, so I figured i would try it. First, everyone saying they have great sushi, knows NOTHING about sushi! #FACT They don’t allow seating at the sushi bar. They only had a few tables and all were taken. They removed half or more of their tables. Not good! So I decided to place a to go order. The menu was “ok” at best, not a huge selection. I placed my order and it took over 45 min to get it done. Good thing I didn’t stay to eat there. 🤦‍♂️ Get home and open the container, I was shocked! The rolls were the diameter of a nickel and the “special” roll was maybe of a quarter. They do not make sushi like an actual sushi house! Frankly, I should have gone to Publix and got their sushi, it would have cost me a ton less and would have been just as good as Umi. Umi, is over priced for what you get. I would never recommend Umi to anyone looking for sushi. That’s a fact! I’ll stick to my go-to place.

I tried this place not long after they opened and was unimpressed. I recently returned and enjoyed both visits. Unfortunately you will be paying Berry farms prices but at least now you're getting the food you paid for. The business seems to be running a good takeout business as well so I think it's gained in popularity. Overall good improvement

Came for the first time in the middle of dinner rush. (Edit: Been back dozens of times since...) I'm (Edit: still) impressed. Perfectly cooked sushi rice. Fresh tasting and beautifully prepared. Even the fried rice was well seasoned, hand cut fresh vegetables, and cooked well. Met and interacted with the owner. She's spunky, but you can tell she has a passion for her restaurant. Can't wait to come back (Edit: again and again). Highly recommend.

Updated June 5 2021 Every place has a bad day so I thought is was time to give Umi a new try 3rd try Ok. Here we go No seating permitted at the nice sushi bar they have. .. I like to look at my sushi to see what looks good fresh so this was scary The server worked very hard very very hard and kept things moving at prime dinner time Limited wine selection and a 10....yes TEN Dollar corking fee So how was my sushi? I could not see what the fish looked like as if I sat the bar ... so I stuck with salmon and tuna it was good fresh and cold So as because of the service and good sushi upgrading this to a 4 It still is the only Japanese place in the area May 2020 I love good Asian food and sushi , which is why I do not reccomend this establishment. As always when I have a poor experience anywhere ( Especially food establishments) I give it a second try before putting in a poor rating. The service is slow The Sushi was not the freshest or looking. There is nothing special about Umi except the lack of local Japanese cuisine competition.
