Chen's Happy Garden

The chicken fried rice was really good. Chicken in the rice was tender and tasted great as well. Ordered sweet and sour chicken as well. It was okay. The Chicken was a little tough in the sweet and sour. Staff was strictly business at first. Friendly after handing over food and thanking us. I would eat here again.

I live in the area and have called in for takeout a few times. The place appears very clean, and the flavors are fresh and tasty. If you're a big meat eater, you may be disappointed with some of the dishes. They are more meat flavored than full of meat. They make up for it with very fresh and expertly cooked vegetables. The curry beef is my family's favorite. Egg rolls are good too and the oil is fresh. The woman at the front can be a bit curt, but Ive found that a little courtesy and a nice tip goes a long way. Tonight she was absolutely pleasant. They do skimp on rice, but otherwise the portions are ample.

Where's the teriyaki beef??? I really want to support local business, especially during these unprecedented times...but REALLY? $12.95 for broccoli, cabbage, zucchini and mushrooms. Everything BUT teriyaki beef(there was 5 tiny pieces of beef). The bottom is literally a soup of whatever "sauce" was used. Very disappointing, but lesson learned. We spent a total of $36 and change plus tip. This included two entrees (teriyaki beef and orange chicken) and hot a sour soup but was only supplied with 1 portion of rice. Out of all the things to be cheap on, THE RICE TOO?? Sadly, we won't go back. Also to be mentioned, the hot and sour soup was truly one of the worst tasting I've ever had. It looked great but taste horrible. I'm so sorry to give this review but buyers need to beware. Service was okay... I wish I went to panda express, sadly it would have been better than here. Not saying much.

I'm a resident of Phoenix, Arizona, but every time I visit my family in Eugene, I definitely make time in my schedule to stop here. The food is always hot with a fresh flavor, and large portions. I've never had them mess up an order, even large take out orders placed over the phone, and I haven't found a place on par to Chen's Happy Garden in Phoenix. My favorite go to is their Sweet and Sour Pork! Even their lunch portions leave me with plenty of food for take away.
