Dining here since 2016. Yes they have up and slow moment. But mostly consistent foods and delicious. Authentic Thai for sure. Still byob but make sure you generous on tips.
Amazing soft shelled crab curry!!!! And we also got slow cooked pork leg - also quite yummy! Hole in the wall type place, super low key. Thai tea with milk also great.
The reason can’t move out from Queens was all the Asian goodies food..
Chao Thai is one of authentic Thai restaurants..
their tonzap is my goto soup.. you can’t get the taste in any other place. The Tomzap super.
I have seen this restaurant a lot of times while walking into the train station.
So, I decided to give it a shoot and have dinner here with a friend.
I share a few appetizers with my friend.
Num Tok Beef a salad that has grilled beef with onion, chili, lime juice and roasted rice with a touch of medium spiciest, be careful they don't play around went they talked about spicy food, although my palate could handle the degree of spices, it was spicier than I was expected, the beef was very juicy the lime gives it a great taste I recommend getting this to share because the portion is just perfect to share.
Grilled Pork another great appetizer to share with a party which is served with tamarind sauce, pork was cooked perfectly the sauce was a great way to dip the pork to give that extra taste.
For my main disk, I had the Drunken Noodles chicken I notice there was not a lot of protein on my plate, but the noddle was not bad but like the salad was spicier than I was expected. But overall was not bad.
The place is pretty small so is kind of difficult to get a table.
Another bad thing about the restaurant is that is only cash so no debit or credit card accepted.
Here's the deal, I ate here the first week they opened, some ten years ago, and it was the best Thai food in the area for a couple of years. After a very long break I returned with a few friends, and the same can no longer be said: the food is okay, but not as good, and the prices have doubled. Still, we did enjoy our Tuesday afternoon lunch well enough and service was fine.

Nice small place for a good Thai food. The portion are generous. We had Pad Ke Mao, Panang Curry and the meat ball(forgot it’s name). Service is good.
I loved their noodle soup. I ordered the number 1 on the menu. The bouillon was super flavorful. There was beef, liver, crunchy pork eggs...maybe I am forgetting something else.
Anyone was one of the most flavorful noodle soup I had. And you can spice it yourself with the powder pepper
This looks like a family own restaurant. It's small but their food taste really good. I am vegetarian and we ordered friend tofu with vegetables, it was amazing. The good thing is you don't smell meat in your food. We also order Som Tum (papaya salad) and it tasted delicious. This is small place but worth a shot you will not regret.
REAL Thai food. Even "standard" dishes that you find at any Thai place in the city are elevated here and done correctly. I love Chao Thai! It's unpretentious and absolutely delicious.
I don't know why this place doesn't have a 5 star rating yet. This is the best place for Thai food in Queens. I've been coming here for years. Try the Raw Shrimp salad with garlic, cilantro. Holy monkeys, it's so damn good. Your regular dishes Kee Mao, Fried rice, PraKha King, all sauteed meats are always delicious but be adventurous and order other things off the menu, you can't go wrong.
Fish cakes, calamari, spring rolls , soft shell crabs, Thai iced tea are also great apps. Enjoy!
Also, they're Cash Only!!!
