I love scallion pancakes. I went in here unexpectedly and I found a treasure trove and so I decided to go for it.
I sat and even ordered some vegetable steamed boiled dumplings.
The hot sauce oil is good. Very good.
The dining room is covered with banners and flags of the like you see at a grand opening, either remnants of the not-so-distant actual grand opening, or more likely just festive decoration, as they moved from their previous location over a year ago. With a simple menu and 100% exclusively Chinese clientele, you pretty much are assured that Lao Bei Fang is doing something write. Great prices, great dumplings, great noodles. The fried pork & leek dumplings ($1.50/4 or $2.75/8, above) are above average for sure, although not mind-altering. They do get the job done, and really who can complain about a tasty, filling meal that clocks in under three dollars. Even though the place has "dumpling house" in the title, I noticed most people here were slurping noodle soups. You will also hear the thump of these hand-pulled noodles being made throughout your meal, as the always entertaining throw-twist-pull motions of noodle-making accompany the atmosphere. We ordered the tendon & beef noodles ($5.
Best option for cheap eats in the neighborhood. Dumplings is our favorite here. The place can get a little messy sometimes but it’s not a big issue for us, we came here for their food.
-Dumplings (5/5) affordable, tasty and fresh most of the time.
-House special noodle soup (4.5/5) They kinda lessen the portion of the meat but the taste and texture are consistent for the noodles and broth.
Delicious beef noodle soup and Dumplings at a price you just cannot beat. Don't be scared by the lowkey tables, this place is a treat. Noodles definitely taste hand made and the soup hits.
One of the best Dumplings and Beef Noodle Soup I've ever had. Dumplings are like $5 for 8, and it's not of those small dumplings, it's huge and very meaty. The noodles were great, it is made in front of you. Soup was great. It was flavorful, not too salty nor too powerful. If I am around the area, I will definitely stop by again.
Lao Bei is such a nice spot to get a quick lunch or dinner! The prices are low and the amount of food you get is insane. If you are a dumpling fan, their dumplings are different than gyoza that other places have; it has a much thicker skin and definitely feels heartier. The noodles are hand-pulled and have the perfect texture, and they do not skimp on the toppings. There is chili oil on every table that you can feel free to add on, I think it adds a very nice flavor to it. They also sell packs of 50 frozen dumplings, I try to make sure I always have them in stock when I come. The only thing is that the boiled dumplings do take a bit of time to come out, which is probably because they cooked to order; not a complaint but just an FYI in case you are limited on time.
Been here 3x and I'm satisfied everytime a visit. Dumplings are so good and the Hand Pulled Noodles is treat! So far I had, Mixed, Pork and Beef all are bang for the bucket.
It’s really the taste of hometown, affordable, large quantity, delicious, and there is no charge for take-out boxes. It is the most perfect restaurant for ordinary people I have ever seen in the United States
I am in LOVE. This place is such a gem. If you want good, hearty Chinese food, this is the place to go. Not only was the food PHENOMENAL, the prices were unbeatable. The portions are more than generous. My soup was so packed with different toppings that it took me a minute to find the actual noodles. The dumplings were so fresh! You could see the chef hand-making the dumplings. I seriously can’t wait to come back here.
Pretty good place for dumpling and noodle, especially noodle soup, besides the fact that everything is a little too oily. The place is not that spacious. They take cash only.
Looks can be deceiving. Both exterior and interior is nothing to brag about, simply look like many other take out joint with some tables scattered but the amount of foot traffic is insane and many for their famous Pork & Leek Potstickers. They do serve noodles and such but the main event are the Potstickers
These potstickers are made in huge batches and since so many people buy (sold in increments of 4), they are always fresh, hot, juicy with perfect golden crispy crust. Don’t forget the hot oil and dumpling sauce.
This is definitely a must try if you’re in Elmhurst area. Street parking after 7pm is easier and free. There’s no tipping and it’s self service. Cheapest and best bang for your buck in the area.
